Re: Lauri Markkanen

This board is way too bearish on Coach Miller right now. There is no way in hell that I'd trade him for Altman. Altman is a damn good coach, but elevating him above Miller based off of one final four run is not something that I'm willing to do. Agree. But I've been accused (not on this board) of dr...

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament game thread

UNC is gonna win this. Sooner or later, something has to go down, and they're up one missing everything. The refs are sort of killing this, though. At least the announcers will talk about it. Brutal officiating. Both teams are scraping because there's a whistle on every play. These refs are gonna b...

That last foul on Pinson guarding Williams-Goss reminded me of the brutal Nick Johnson offensive foul vs. Wisconsin in '14.

Re: Lauri Markkanen

Perhaps, but I contend that Miller could beat Alford with UCLA's players against Alford coached Arizona players. And the same for Miller with Oregon players against Altman coached Arizona players . Alford has players fall into his lap because he's at UCLA. Altman had TWO sixth year seniors on his r...

Re: Lauri Markkanen

Perhaps Miller isn't quite the recruiter than people hype him to be then if he's taking guys that are other school's 1-B choice because of red flags. He really isn't. Last year, if you assume that Alkins and Simmons were that, you have Lauri and Ferguson. Beyond that, you have to go back years for ...

I wish Lauri well and he was a great Frosh player BUT I hate the whole 'one and dones' thing and he will be just like Bayless, Gordon and Johnson in that although I'm proud that they were Wildcats for a short time, I'm much more interested and invested in the TJs & Kadeems (with their redshirts inc...

To be fair to Ewing, I'm only basing my opinion on his career as a player where I didn't feel he was much of a strategist. He was a great individual player but he never came across as a player who would somehow will his team to victory in the final minutes based on the mental aspect of the game. How...

Re: When do we start recruiting actual Point Guards?

NCAA tourney and all basketball is about match ups. UNLV used Stacey Augmon to neutralize Sean Elliott in '89. And nobody else was able to step up and fill the void. That was the second time Arizona played UNLV that year. The first time, UNLV lost and Tarkanian didn't show his hand. This is like th...

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament game thread

What's not to like about their program? Few is a class act. The only thing I resent about their program ( and really it's not their fault) is the crappy conference in which they play. They basically get a two month sabbatical while other programs are beating each others brains in during conference p...

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament game thread

I'm tired of the Gonzaga love affair. They benefit unfairly every year from a weak conference schedule and have been inordinately seeded too high over the years. Even this year, how could you not give them a 1-seed? Every other top 20 team in the country plays a more rigorous schedule. They're a uni...

PAC 12 is going to be weak again. UCLA won't have Lonzo and will take a step back, Oregon will likely lose all their upperclassmen and Dorsey. USC the other decent team. Weak OOC schedule. Honestly, assuming Rawle and Trier are back, this team should rack up 30 wins and win a weak conference. Of co...

Not a PG analogy but when I was watching Jackson guarding Brooks it came to my mind that this is what a 5 star guy looks like guarding a 3 star guy (no idea what Brooks was). JJ had crazy length, quickness to match and was taller. He totally took Brooks out of the game. You can't get superstars in ...

I don't care for the elevated court and the entire team sitting "downstairs" from the action while the head coach is perched on a chair. There's no interaction between assistants and players. It doesn't feel right.

Also agree with the quotes and just shake my head at fans who discount some other team's run. This is a hard MFer to win. One bad spell and you're gone. Yes, there is luck here and there, but I respect all the teams that make the Final Four, and, of course, the national champion. As we know, it ain...

Re: Despite Xavier's defense did we come in too confident?

I don't think so. I think we never had players who were great shooters or who could create their own shots. We also badly needed a true swingman like a Ray Smith who could get into the lane but still shoot over defenders. Our perimeter players could get into the lane but couldn't create a shot. Kade...

I don't think Jackson fits in with what Sean Miller looks for in his 3/4 outside of maybe shooting. On the transfer news New Mexico just lost its 4th player this offseason to transfer and we travel to Albuquerque to play them. What a dud that matchup will be . New Mexico is a dumpster fire. This year's team was like a donut: nothing in the middle. Sure, we had size but certainly no rim protection. When Keanu Pinder, who didn't even play several games this season, is your leading shot blocker that's a problem. Ristic cannot be anything more than a 20 minute a game player at most. Becaus...

I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan. We haven't been to a World Series since 1988. But the last 6-7 years we've contended, reached the playoffs, only to come up short. It's a helluva lot more to be in the conversation than having zero hope. Part of the joy of Arizona basketball is the anticipation. We'll get...

Is Barcello comparable to Orgon's Benson his freshman year? Or perhaps Pritchard? I don't follow recruiting closely enough to evaluate players. In my observation, zPJC is best as a back up because he can provide a change of pace. I still think we could use some better rim protection. For an elite te...
