Wouldn't you have to try to not have flood insurance? I even have earthquake insurance, and I live in Illinois.

EDIT: Nevermind. I had to try to set up flood insurance.

Flood insurance isn't standard where I live.

Same with earthquake insurance, which I don't have, and I live

2 h 37 min (97.0 mi) via CA-166 E

driving distance to the San Andreas fault.

I figure FEMA can take care of me. Worked in New Orleans didn't it?

Although the FEMA Rex 84 Concentration Camp is

17 min (14.5 mi) via Orcutt Expy and CA-1 S

away from me too.

yeah, not standard where I live. I have an older policy. Just called and checked, the company itself doesn't even offer it, only offer it through FEMA. Seems odd to me, but whatever. hope I don't get flooded.

I was under the impression that no insurance companies offer flood insurance. You have to get it through the federal government and its only offered in areas that the Army Corp of Engineers has deemed flood prone.

I don't think I do. :(
I had to get it for our mortgage. Was required since we are in a "once in a century" flood area.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

That's right, but also FEMA directs us to insurers in our area that provide flood insurance even in communities not considered to be flood zones. I realized that this was something I had to do, but then forgot. I just sent an email to my home insurance agent. I mean, there's a stream that flows behind my back yard. I don't care if the purpose of the stream is to divert floods. If it breaches the banks, it breaches the banks.

Yep, all flood insurance coverage comes from the Fed Govt. Most major companies sell it through that program.

Anyone with a home can buy flood insurance. People in 100 year flood zones have to buy it if they mortgage their house. No mortgage...its up to you.

Majority of insurance companies are approved to quote/bind a policy but coverage only comes from the Fed Govt. Plus the policy only offers $250k for structure and $100k for contents. Have to get a secondary policy if you need more coverage than that.

Right. FEMA publishes the FIRM Map (Flood Insurace Rate Map) which shows floodplains.

Well for those in Tucson, apparently we can get a few sandbags for free:

http://www.tucsonnewsnow.com/story/26546581/sandbags

Looks like it's 10 per person. I'll probably stop by for them and then pick up more at Lowes or Home Depot ...both of which reportedly got some in.

I feel like a moron.

I drove by and saw the line, skipped it. Figured I'll just make my own sandbags out of trash bags and dirt.

It's looking better now than it was before obviously, but I have a particular entry way that the water nearly hit with the last big storm, so if this one's bigger, I'll be screwed unless I do something. Better safe than sorry, and I have trash bags I can waste as temporary sand bags.

That sucks. Yet in some way, I don't find it surprising that they ran out of something as simple as sand.

I'm just going to use dirt from my yard.

Started raining last night off and on. Been sprinkling all morning. Complete cloud cover but no hard rain yet

I drove by Ft Lowell park. 100 cars in the parking lot all loading bags.

Tons of washes out Northeast with dry sand that you can drive up to. Redington, Tanque Verde Loop or Wentworth. You could also take Summer Trail down to the Sabino Creek.

Well, best of luck to you all. Hopefully it is just that steady drizzle and no a gushing downpour,
