Cats are evil. They're gatekeepers to the underworld. Kittens are adorable, but it's an ephemeral nature because they grow up to be cats.

There is a reason old horror movies the witches have cats.

Every single fucking brick and mortar restaurant's website should have the hours/days of operation emblazoned across the to top. End of story. Full Stop.
Forcing you to hunt around for hours of operation is just lame.

HMOs can be great since your overall expenses are very low, esp when you age or have family with health issues, but I am constantly fighting to get things covered.
Took me 2 months to get my Shingrix vaccine covered for each shot. It was denied 3 times due to various extremely minor reasons.
Now they refuse to cover my anesthesia for a recent colonoscopy. Who in the world can have a colonoscopy with no anesthesia?
They just deny so many things, and hope that eventually you will give up.

It's no help to you now, but the anesthesiologist probably wasn't in the same network as the gastroenterologist. Then you'll find out the pathology, if needed, wasn't scheduled with an in-network lab.Merkin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 5:40 pm HMOs can be great since your overall expenses are very low, esp when you age or have family with health issues, but I am constantly fighting to get things covered.

Both my kids births, the anesthesiologist was out of network. I'm supposed to ask when my wife is in pain and needs her epidural now if they are in our fucking network?

Re: Venting Thread
Totally agree. It's appalling. And then it can become weirder and more incomprehensible: I don't know how many times (at least four iirc) I have chased down a billing error and called a lab or a provider to get the bill reworked, and after renegotiating a lower cost ..... they never resend the new bill!!!!! One place I called twice after waiting and waiting, and finally just gave up. It's as if they're making so much $ they won't bother to follow up. Lazy corrupt fucks.UAEebs86 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 7:02 pmIt's such bullshit that this happens over and over and over again.dovecanyoncat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 6:12 pmIt's no help to you now, but the anesthesiologist probably wasn't in the same network as the gastroenterologist. I grew up about a mile from there and when I was back there for my father’s funeral in December I said the same thing.
I couldn’t believe it, especially the surreal juxtaposition of the tent city on San Vicente sidewalk and then you curve around the bend and end up in one of the most expensive, high rent neighborhoods in the country.
For the record, Vicente Foods has to be the most expensive grocery store in the world.

I looked up my old house in Downey and it’s worth $1.5M according to Zillow, which I guess isn’t bad for a 5 bed/3 bath with a pool. When we left in ‘88 I bet we sold it for like $325k.

I looked up my parents old house is Duarte (near Arcadia, Azusa) 4 bed, 3 bath, less than 1700 square feet, up to $812,000. My mom sold it for $600,000 about 5 years ago. They paid about $140,000 in 1981 and I thought that was insane LOL. (Houses in Arizona were about 60,000 - 70,000 back then)

I live in an old 1959 1800 sq ft tract home in northern Santa Barbara county in the cheapest neighborhood in the area. Zillow says it is worth $538K. Bought it for $216K in 2001. My prior 1300 sq ft house I paid $135K for in 1990 and sold for $159K in 2001 is now worth $423K.

I have a funny story about Downey. When I was “younger” I went home with a girl who lived there. I woke up the next morning in her apartment and she had left for work and I had no way of getting home (this was way before Uber). I called up a friend and he says to me “wtf are you doing in Downey??!!”. Still a running joke to this day.
Re: Venting Thread
Just looked at my house on Zillow. I live in a modest 3 bedroom 2 bath 1480 sq ft house in a basic middle class neighborhood in N Phoenix near ASU West campus. We bought it 25 years ago for $84,000 and Zillow estimates it $302,000. Crazy.

Re: Venting Thread
The house my mom grew up in was built in 1963 in Corte Madera in Marin County on the north side of the Golden Gate. It was sold when her dad died in 1993 for something like 200-250k. It's worth close to $1.8M now. For a 58 year old 3 bed 2 bath 1700 sq ft ranch house. It was a regular middle to lower middle class suburb in the 60s and 70s.

Re: Venting Thread
The blue house was where I lived in San Francisco where I rented the top flat in 1985/6 when I graduated from UA and was hired by PG&E. This is in The Sunset, on the far west foggy side of the city.
At the time, homes in that neighborhood were going for $250K. Many of the homes being sold were to the Chinese who were leaving Hong Kong before Britain turned the island over to China, so even then we thought the home prices were inflated for that reason.
Look at them now.

Re: Venting Thread
Pupster is stable. No major vessels involved. Vet is very concerned about depth of some puncture wounds on her chest that may have gone into the chest cavity. They ha e to surgically explore the wounds and clean and close her up. Even if nothing else is found to be wrong I'm looking at a $4k vet bill, while not working. Lovely.
Thanks for the kind words folks.

Great news!
Re: Venting Thread
Pupster may have gotten lucky. Looks like no broken bones or punctures to her chest or abdominal cavities. She's getting loads of pain meds and antibiotics overnight. They will clean her wounds again in the morning and stitch her up. She may get to come home tomorrow afternoon. She'll be sore as hell for a while and I'll have to monitor her closely for a few weeks, but the news looks pretty good at this point.

Any pup updates Devil-
So relieved she’s going to make it! But vet bills are always awful especially emergencies.
Was the dog that attacked out loose or were owners there... or do you know who owner is?

Re: Venting Thread
We were on a walk in the neighborhood, about 2 houses down from us. Someone was coming out their door right as we were going by and this huge pit bum rushed out the door and just grabbed my 17lb dog and tried to run with it. The owner burst out of the house and tackled his dog which after 5-6 seconds released my dog. They've already put that dog down and have offered to help with the bills. We'll see on that.

Glad to hear she's doing better. That's our greatest fear with our chihuahua.
Re: Venting Thread
Pup made it out of surgery ok. She gets to come home this afternoon. Lots of aftercare unfortunately. Things like wounds draining and such. But overall much better outlook. When that pit bull had my entire dog in it's mouth...I assumed she was gone right then and there.
