Basically, you want to hit their breakfast burrito menu. But if you want something like a carne asada burrito, go across the street to Calle Tepa, which is owned by the original Guadalajara Grill people.

I've never had anything but burritos there. I hear that not all Nico'ses are the same.
Are you stalking me?

All the restaurants you keep talking about are in my neighborhood and the ones I frequent.

I get those breakfast burritos from that Nico's all the time, street tacos from Calle Tepa are always in demand by my teenagers (and me) and I often put up with that Eegee's hits and misses.

Now I want to get the street tacos at Calle Tepa. I've never tried them!

Not every place in Tucson does this, but Nico's does the machaca like a pot roast, like you get in Nogales.

I gave up on Sad Eegees and only hit the classic dumpy-looking Eegees on Craycroft at 22nd.

Well done! Also, they're like the only restaurant in Tucson open on Mondays, so that's another plus.

Everyone drop everything you're doing this fucking second and go to El Chinito Gordo on Oracle and Miracle Mile.

Torta ahogada with crispy roast pork and a spicy chile de arbol sauce poured over it. Birria chimichanga enchilada style. The poblano rice was actually amazing. So were the beans. 5 fucking stars.

Finally made it to Tumerico and kicking myself for not going a long time ago. The guy recommended I mix a couple of the meals so I got the cuban taco and tamale plate. Absolutely killer! I imagine a lot of people don't pay attention and have no idea its not meat.

That cashew crema is amazing. I've tried to follow recipes to make those meats, but it's no comparison. Mine just looks and tastes like jackfruit.

Deliciocho on Nogales Highway between Valencia and Bilby. Best Birria I've ever tasted.

Heading to La Chaiteria (same as the Tumerico owners but with a vegan and regular menu) and Zemams this weekend. We have vegetarian family in town and those are great compromise options.

Went there last night. A very good meal.

I went with 4 tacos, and tried the birria, chicken tinga with chorizo, al pastor and carne asada to get a sampling. All were good to great. The birria and chicken tinga with chorizo were the standouts, but nothing was mediocre.

I'm excited to go back.

Transplant Pizza was great, as expected.

Of course, my 5 year-old hated it, so I've added it to the list of pizzerias where I have to cook her a frozen pizza so she can eat with us.

She also hates Falora. She likes Blackjack, Time Market, and frozen pizza.

In midtown or east side, does anybody know of any good Chinese restaurants? Other than noodle shops and stuff like that?

I'm back at Chef Wang. Amazing food but quite the drive.

Yeah I mean something like what Old Peking looks like. I've never been to Old Peking, and the reviews are pretty bad, but it looks like the kind of Chinese restaurant I'm looking for.

The key is to eat there because the pizzas are works of art as they come out. You don't want to put them in boxes and wilt in their own steam. If you take it away, ag least open the lid and behold it in its glory before you go out to the car.

Detroit style pizza should enter some kind of hall of fame. It's insane that Chicago pizza is more celebrated.

I never found anything. Went to Chef Wang's on your recommendation and it's probably the best Chinese I've had in Tucson.

That looks just fantastic! Looks like they can do our Peking Duck, too. And I can't believe they have chop suey. I haven't seen that on a menu in ages. Thank you!!!!!

Guilin doesn't try hard enough to culturally stereotype themselves. The decor says, "What? We're people. We live in Tucson." There's no attempt to say, "Ancient Chinese secret!"

We really dont have many great Chinese options. I was going to say Ba-Dar as well but I've had some unimpressive meals there. Wei Asian Cafe on Golf Links is my current favorite. Their Garlic Chicken is amazing plus the hot n sour and you can sub out white rice for lo mein or egg noodles. Also never had a bad meal at Hot Wok.

I also get pad thai and a crispy egg roll from Bai Thong once a week. Go on Friday and it comes with a delicious yellow curry soup.

Has anyone ever tried P.F. Chang's? I haven't yet. My wife has Chinese colleagues who swear it's their absolute favorite restaurant in any category. I learned recently that the first location was in Scottsdale. So it's basically local!

I remember eating there a couple times in the east valley in the late 90s/early 2000s and at the time it surpassed the Olive Garden and Applebees for the fanciest place I'd ever eaten.

We like P.F. Chang's, have for years, but were surprised to learn how much salt their food has. One of my favorite orders was an eggplant dish with a hot/spicy sauce. Sodium off the scale.

So back to the thread title as in 3 months I will be back in the old pueblo.

You guys have given me a bunch of choices for a variety of foods especially Mexican (which is great and have jotted them down) but if I have to go to ONE restaurant in Tucson during my stay that restaurant would be....

For me, it's still Mi Nidito.

If you include the entire Tucson metropolitan statistical area, and I get to pick one more, it's Cocina La Ley in Nogales, AZ.

Not a restaurant, but Ramona Farms has their heirloom corn in stock. It goes fast. I just bought four and a half pounds of ga'ivsa and huun ga'i. It's not enough but I feel bad not sharing.

On a related note, you'll love this Tucson food book:

It takes living and eating in Tucson to the next level.

Since my favorite Casa Sanchez closed I might go with Poco & Mom's.

Back before the pandemic and I quit drinking, I loved having beers and margaritas on the patio at Mi Nidito during the long wait. Without alcohol, I wonder if now it would just feel like a long wait.

Poco and Mom's is fantastic. I'd weigh 10-15 pounds more if I didn't live a 30 min drive from them.

Note that if you have not been to Tucson in awhile Poco and Moms has moved. It is now next to Udall park right before Sabino Canyon Rd heading East.
