It's about eyeballs.

If the traffic specs suggest heavy viewership, there may be some money to be made. Maybe not. But maybe.

I tried comparing that to other fan sites and couldn't. PGU doesn't register, and Wildcat Authority defaults to Scout.com, so that's skewed.

Punched in Spurstalk, and they kick our ass, but they've been around for a long time and the Spurs are an international team. Much moreso than NCAA sports.

Not sure what I'm looking at. For a forum only, those numbers seem pretty solid. But that's hope and ignorance talking.

Far Out!

Does anybody really have any idea what he was ranting about?

I think I vaguely remember being added to his list and being flattered since I had been inadvertently left off Nixon's enemies list. But I never did figure out what he was on about.

Edit: Oh yeah, some hallucinated slight on his religious opinion. Meh.

As I recall 4Life started rather ordinary. He even joined here when TOS went dark. Then upon its return he just lost it, and as more criticized his opinion, maybe even him since he was so fucking weird about it, he delved deeper into a persecution complex, until it was painfully obvious he was another Sock of OlsonCourt/Percy.

When I called him on that, and I think others jumped in, he went off the deep end, and went anti-bully, then anti-sanity, then anti-everything.

But 4Life was just a full of shit psychotic split of Percy, an avatar through which he could deride all injustices, and do so on a sinking ship of a forum that made him seem noble for being the last voice as it sank, even if that voice effectively shouted for us all to pay no heed to the water acting the anchor and no longer buoy.

By all reports he died. If not, he's done an excellent disappearing act. We used to have occasional phone conversations. Yes, Triangle and Too and Wineknow were his favorite targets.

I would argue Catlax, but that board is hard to read in any event. Still get a kick out of all the board histories and poster cross-pollination.

Ha, I remember you were in Nino's crosshairs too. None of his victims remember him fondly. He was too smart for most to keep up with.

Just had the thought the other day that I hadn't checked in there in forever. Never really felt it for the community on that board. Randazzo and Allis seemed like good guys, but I didn't really connect with the posters.

UAsports.net

But that is kind of a closed society of friends who have been posting since Cat Tracks. 247 and Scout are owned by the same company so shutting down makes sense. Scout only has sports boards so we are the only diverse board for UA sports and community. And Scout is in it for the money we are not.

GOAZCATS.com celebrates second anniversary
Ben Hansen and Josh Gershon | GOAZCATS.com Staff
Hoxgnz2ozbcigccomveh
Two years ago on this very date, local web designer Jim Storey unveiled a website that he had been developing for months called GOAZCATS.com.
When the site was officially launched, Storey stated his goals for what he hoped to accomplish with GOAZCATS.com.
"My plan has always been to develop a site that meets technical and visual needs, coupled with the best content and product," Storey said on November 4th, 2002. "With the addition of Ben Hansen and some very knowledgeable moderators, I am confident that GOAZCATS.com will be a great place for people to read, discuss, and purchase great University of Arizona athletics information and product.
"We WILL provide the latest and best coverage on UA athletics... and if anyone does not think so, please let me know personally."
Two years later, GOAZCATS.com has far surpassed Storey's original expectations. However, if it weren't for our loyal reader base, GOAZCATS.com would be nothing.

This was like one week before I joined the community, I’m pretty sure. Or maybe right before I posted. Don’t really remember, it I had been a lurker for months at both Scout and GOAZCATS. Signed up for an account and didn’t use it for a little bit at Rivals. Then PomPomPizzy shot his load over Nate Robinson and I chimed in with a post that garnered immediate approval and high fives, strongly stating and using history as an indicator that Nate Robinson would struggle to ever play in the NBA, let alone be the 1st Rounder PPP was throwing out there.

Goddamn Isiah Thomas.

Who "wins" and what happens to the board when someone comes to buy us out?
UADevil would win. This is his baby. We need to in the next year look at options to make the site pay for itself.

And I don't think UA is looking to sell.

When I get some free time I have some ideas I'll bounce off him and a few others before bringing it to the forum.
Boy, this was on point. Last year around this time we were approached to become the official forum for Wildcat Radio. It had some compensation for the owner, but the admins and moderators feared linking to something where we didn’t have full control. So, we remained uniquely unaffiliated, but free to be whatever we want without worry of moderation or censorship or losing the core of what we are in a power grab like TOS.

It was at this time, during the height of MeToo we also opted to stop having the cheesecake “Rey?!” Forum dedicated to voting on and celebrating celebrity women’s hotness.

I guess this is growing up.

This thread is bonkers, if you read from beginning to end.

UAsports.net

But that is kind of a closed society of friends who have been posting since Cat Tracks. 247 and Scout are owned by the same company so shutting down makes sense. Scout only has sports boards so we are the only diverse board for UA sports and community. And Scout is in it for the money we are not.
Fuck uasports.net

Big pat banned me for being negative on arizona football three years ago. That site doesn’t want new members and we’re always very difficult with new people coming on board who didn’t believe Arizona would win a national championship every year. That site is basically just 10-15 people talking to themselves. Would never respond to my emails either when I asked why I was banned and gave me no advanced notice on it.

I do check it from time to time and funny how they have gotten a lot less optimistic on Arizona football finally. I remember getting into arguments with posters there when they compared Rich Rod to Lute Olson...in 2015...I was Banned shortly after that...

Agreed. Is this Gumby? http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/d ... -you-stay/" target="_blank

All I remember is that his name was Gary and he worked for the Spokane newspaper, but then went to work on some election campaign.

EDIT: Pretty sure it is

his candidate: https://lisabrownforcongress.com/red-to-blue" target="_blank

who lost.

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Whats interesting for me is during the time this entire switch over went on I was lost in daily battles at UAsports.net and starting my company. I sort of missed everything on it and still never heard the full story.

I know Jim Storey very well as he helped design a website for me when I got out of college and attempted to start a company then (Massive failure). He also had me on the Storey and Hansen show a bunch of times and even got to co-host it three times. Loved it and still one of the highlights at U of A as always wanted to co-host a sports radio show.

I lost touch with him in probably 2006 and then I know about all the public issues with U of A. Sounds like he was pretty hated here. I always liked him a lot personally.

Anyone know what happened with Ben Hanson? He was a great guy.

He had a stroke but I think he recovered. I think Merk is friends with him on Facebook.

Same. I started lurking GoAzCats my freshman year of at UofA. Was looking for a site to discuss or at least read about Arizona Basketball. Google (or Yahoo?) led me there. Could barely focus on school during the day because as most of you remember; it was a very active site (especially compared to this one). I'll be 30 in April.

I was working in a lab between clinical years in 2006-2007, pushing cells through a machine at like 1 in the mornin, lurked for a while and then joined.

You guys are great and really helped me weather a ton of shit the past 11 years. And I know I haven’t always reciprocated well, and in my lower moments used this place as an”kick the dog” outlet (rather than taking it out on gf, coworkers, society at large)

You guys continuously challenge me, teach me, give me insight into areas that I’d never be exposed to otherwise and help me be a more open minded person. And that affects/influences those relationships i have with people outside of here.

Thank you. In my late 30s, I’d like to think that’s growth.

That’s pretty cool JMark, and thank you to you and the mods for staying true to the spirit of this place and maintaining autonomy. Also, good call on the Rey! Thread decision.

The “Rey?!” forum started as fun and when we mods and admins looked back at it last year, it was quickly unanimous to ax it. It really felt dirty, even if that wasn’t the original intent.
