First reports coming out if Puerto Rico aren't good. Mayor of San Juan is saying the Puerto Rico they knew is gone. Some places will have to have their electric and other infrastructure completely rebuilt from scratch. May mean months without electricity for tons of people. Pretty much the whole island is without power currently.

On NPR, the BBC guy mentioned a patron stumbling out of a bar and needing the assistance of the cabbie to get in the cab, due to the wind.

Didn't sound too out of the ordinary to me...

This will have to be the hottest October on record in Tucson. We're on track to only have about 5 days below 90 the whole month (average highs drop below 90 by about Oct 5th). Most days have hit the 95-98 range with nightly lows being very high as well. Consistently 10 to 15 above average. We've been the hottest in relation to average of any part of America for the last year or two. It's 82 degrees at 1045 pm in mid October for chrissakes.

Sucks that this is the new normal.

Will be 75 in a week there though. 98 or 99 in Tucson today. Thankfully will be down to the mid and upper 80s by the end of the week.

TUCSON - Record setting heat is on the way to Tucson for the start of the workweek.

A strong ridge of high pressure will set up over the west coast in the coming days driving temperatures a good 10-15 degrees above average. The forecast high of 96 degrees on Monday will break the previous record for an October 23rd, which was 94 degrees set back in 1933.

Tucson will likely hit 95 degrees again on Tuesday making it one of the latest occurrences ever for the Old Pueblo to reach that number. The latest 95 degree day to occur was actually just last year on October 27th, 2016.

Temperatures in the 90s stick around through at least Thursday before the 80s return heading into next weekend.

Yet another first for Tucson I'm sure.

We are on track to not have a single day of sub 80 degree high temperatures in Tucson before November 15th. That is insane.

Based on all the NOAA models and future forecasts I'm basically convinced we are just not going to get anything resembling a normal "winter" for Tucson this year. I don't know if we ever will again with the rapid realization that the climate is changing faster than anyone thought.

It will be pushing 90 still next week. Our highs and lows have been consistently 10-15 degrees above average and it is just not cooling off in a normal pattern. We might have a month or two (Dec/Jan) of temps in the upper 70s and lows in the 40s/50s. Other than that, no winter. No freezes. No chunks of days with highs in the 40s/50s like Tucson usually sees at least once. Those days might just be gone for good.

Then back to the 80s/90s in February/March.

Toasty times in Tucson
Among the locations where heat records for so late in the year were toppled over the weekend were San Jose, CA (80°F on Saturday), Cheyenne, WY (71°F on Sunday—the latest 70°F on record in data going back to 1872), and Casper, WY (67°F on Sunday). Tucson, AZ, had its hottest day so late in the season with 88°F on Saturday, and then bested itself with 92°F on Sunday. The Sunday reading in Tucson was just 2°F shy of the city’s all-time November record—an especially impressive feat given that we’re near the end of an autumn month, when the mildest readings typically arrive sooner rather than later. Tucson notched daily record highs on all four days of the holiday weekend (Thurs-Sun), and it’s racked up a total 21 record highs for the year thus far. “With a period of record starting in 1894, having almost 7% of all days this year attaining record warmth is quite unusual,” said WU weather historian Christopher Burt.

I was in Prescott and it was in the 80's day. I only packed sweaters thinking I was heading to a Mountain weekend get away. Combined with the Bahamas disaster, the Territorial Cup, and sweating in sweaters I was pretty miserable all weekend.

Thanks to a steady stream of 80-degree days and a couple of highs in the 90s, this was Tucson’s warmest November on record, according to the National Weather Service.

“We sounded like broken records talking about broken records,” said Ken Drozd, a NWS meteorologist.

This is a typical La Niña year — cooler-than-normal ocean temperatures drove the jet stream north — locking in dry and hot weather for the entire southwestern United States, while bringing colder, wetter weather to the Northwest.

November’s average temperature in Tucson of 69.2 degrees was 3.5 degrees higher than the last heat record for November, set in 2007. The 30-year normal average November temperature between 1981-2010, the standard yardstick for meteorologists, is almost 10 degrees colder.
