Fried eggs, toast, and something else. The fried eggs happened to be fried duck eggs. Which raises the question: Why do we bother with chicken eggs? Duck eggs are richer and tastier. They make you recall how chicken eggs tasted when you were little and things hit your palette with more pop. They're bigger and sturdier. You feel it when you go to crack the shell, which is so much thicker. In the pan, the yokes hold their own instead of coming apart, so you don't have to worry about screwing up. And yet they cook up as softly as chicken eggs.

Usually, I've had preserved duck eggs or fertilized duck eggs, which you crack open to find a fully-formed duckling, which you then dip in seasoning and eat. But the best duck eggs are just the straightforward ones.

I cut a loaf of whole-grain bread thickly and toasted and buttered it. Perfect for dipping into the yokes.

And I cooked up some napini, which is the flower of the kale plant. I parboiled and shocked them so they were vibrant green, then sauteed them in olive oil and tossed with an emulsion of olive oil, lemon juice, and grated lemon rind.

A Marcella Hazan recipe: rigatoni with butter, prosciutto, spinach, ricotta, and parmigiano reggiano. All local except the rigatoni and the parmigiano.

Made pan-seared, bone-in pork chops with gooseberry sauce. Got the gooseberries at the farmer's market and deglazed the pan with them and some riesling and a little sugar, finishing it off with some vinegar and butter. Set the pork chops on a bed of grits and poured the pan sauce over it.

I also made Jewish food: matzo brei. While I appreciate the deliciousness of schmalz, I'm unsure what the matzah adds, other than using up all your extra matzah from Passover.

A real bachelor dinner in honor of my first day taking care of the 3-month, 1 day old baby as my wife returns to work. No recipe, cooked while the baby is along for the ride strapped to my torso in a Moby wrap.

(Is that Goran Dragic?)

I'm soaking some heritage sangre del toro beans for six hours, then cooking them in the soaking water and adding different kinds of seasonal squashes sauteed in grilled onion, pan-toasted fresh jalapenos, epazote, and green chile powder. Served on top of tortilla chips, with melted Oaxaca cheese over it and garnishing with crema casera, avocado, and salsa. They're nacho father's nachos.

Not as good as the Momo Shack, but pretty close. Son is on his sixth.

Thai.

Money Bags, Goong Hom Pa (Prawns in wrapped in pastry). Larb Ped (salad: Roast duck pieces tossed together with lime juice, herbs and spices, served with a leafy mix).

Ped Honey (grilled port pieces in a honey sauce with vegetables).
Spicy Mango Seafood (scallops, prawns, calimari, muscles).

Chard Farm Pinot Gris (South Island, New Zealand)
Summerfield Shiraz (Pyrenees Australia)

(yeah, the Pinot Gris was perfect but the Shiraz was a way heavy for the Thai. In defense, we didn't crack the Shiraz until after the meal was basically finished and we were into the gab fest)

I've been really into lamb lately.

I made chops last night, ground lamb burgers the other night, and lamb sirloin tip the other night.

Also made some homemade spanakopita yesterday.

Wonderful for you. But never wanting to risk my own expense, I'd never travel somewhere and bring my culinary traditions with me. The family of girlfriend from the Basque country used to come visit us in California and spend the whole time in the kitchen preparing the food from their home region. When I travel, I waste no opportunities to eat only the local stuff.

You should pay them back by taking them all for Sonoran dogs. If any of them complain, cross them off the Christmas gift list.

In honor of the olympics I made a Greek Yoghurt, Lemon garlic chick broasted in the oven, and home made baklava with the rest of the fillo dough.

yum yum yum. I like the Greek kick I got on this week. Such easy and flavorful dishes with not really that many unique ingredients needed.

My spanakopita was the bomb.

Greek salad, baba ghanoush, hummus, tzatziki, pita, stuffed peppers and beef and chicken shwarma from our favorite local Lebanese restaurant.

i'd say chili mac. Goulash is definitely not that. Hot dish is what my wife and her family from MN/WI call most types of casseroles. I never heard the term hot dish before I met her.

Definitely knew it as goulash, although it had rotelle instead of elbow macaroni. Grew up on that stuff.
