Chase also gave up a few floors at the building on Congress. Heard they are converting them into residential modern condos just like 1E and 1W. $800-1500/month in rent and will eventually be connected to the parking garage at 1E

I purposely guessed one wrong and still got 100%.

My daughter, born and raised in Cali, and now living in HI took it and also got 100%.

Tucson's historic Chicago Music Store building may soon house CVS

The national chain has signed a letter of intent to occupy the historic building at 130 E. Congress, agreeing to maintain the facade.

Rio Nuevo may loan El Charro owner $250,000 to reopen 3 businesses

http://tucson.com/news/local/rio-nuevo- ... aign=share" target="_blank

In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the board of the downtown revitalization district backed in concept a loan to Flores, the president of a company that owns El Charro Café, Sir Veza’s Taco Garage and several other restaurants, to buy out three long-term leases for street-front locations on East Congress Street.

The board authorized district officials to negotiate and finalize the loan to Flores. The loan would be repaid with interest and secured with assets and a guarantee.

Two of the venues are nightclubs known as Zen Rock, at 121 E. Congress, and H20 Discotec, at 61 E. Congress. Both clubs are no longer open on a regular basis, Flores said.

A third venue, known as the Betty Gay Space, at 125 E. Congress, has not been open for several years and needs significant renovations before it can be reopened.

I missed that by about 15 minutes. I was in line at Congress and saw a fight break out in the street by Maynards. We left and then a helicopter flew over and cops swarmed the area. This one happened in between Congress and Rialto. Apparently the shooter was driving past the guy which led to a fight in the street and he pulled the gun out and shot him. Hundreds of people within view of the incident so Im sure the police know exactly what happened.

Glad you and others are safe, Jefe. Could happen any time.

I once came home from the supermarket and my alley-side apartment window was shot through and there were bullets in my wall. I called the police and sat down and posted a bit on Goazcats.

A conversation with a neighbor revealed that a drug dealer had lived in my apartment before me. But who knows why, really.

Local developers are set to start craning shipping containers onto an empty, 12,000-square-foot lot along Fourth Avenue. The Boxyard will house four restaurants with communal dining space and two bars, said Brenndon Scott, one of the developers.

Ten containers will be arranged on the site at 238 N. Fourth Ave. The restaurant’s kitchens will be housed in 20-foot containers and the bars in double-stacked 40-foot containers. Other containers will serve as indoor seating around a courtyard. The outdoor area will be temperature-controlled and have shade structures.

“There will be a lot of interesting colors and concepts surrounded by great trees and shade. A small old building on the site will be preserved and repurposed at the request of the neighborhood" Scott said. The inspiration for the project came from visiting other boxcar venues around the country. “The rise in popularity of shipping-container concepts underscores our competitive and quick-changing society,” says Trend Hunter, a website that tracks real estate trends. “The temporary nature of these shops is a valuable aspect of the business model. “An element of exclusivity and time-sensitivity is the novelty aspect that attracts people.”

Scott plans to capitalize on that and sign only one-year leases with restaurants so the cuisine is always changing.
The developers are in negotiations with several restaurants, Scott said.

The liquor license is for the property as a whole and the two bars will operate independently from the restaurants. But they will be stocked to complement the food. All restaurants will be local.

The site will only have a handful of parking spots, but a large area for bicycle parking.

The Boxyard got a variance from the city because it is in the redevelopment district. An open space will house events, such as yoga classes or concerts, and a bocce ball court. There will be enough seating for about 150. For concerts, it will accommodate up to 200 .

Barring any hiccups, the Boxyard is expected to open by the end of the year.

The "Re: Start" mall in Christchurch New Zealand was built out of containers in the aftermath of the earthquake in order to provide short term retail space in the devastated downtown. It has now become so popular that it will probably be permanent. The 'short term' projects they put up in Christchurch have become iconic tourist attractions. "Re: Start" has very expensive rents compared to the rest of the downtown, and the "Cardboard Cathedral" is so loved that they don't feel any pressure at all to get the 'real' Cathedral repaired.

Coming into town to visit friends and take the kids to the desert Sonora museum on wed 11/22.

Where is a good place to watch the NC State game? Good crowd but not too jammed (although might not be a problem due to night before thanksgiving)

We'll be staying around the university. I was thinking old Chicago, but I know that's kinda old school and want to know what else' is out there.

It's been (wow) 8 years since I've been in the old Pueblo so I'm really stoaked to come back for a short visit.

Up until a few days ago I would have recommended this place on 1st ave and Prince a few mins walk from my house called Throwbacks. Never too busy, great prices, lots of tvs etc. But...i hadn't been in a few months and last Sunday I found out that the quality of the food and cleanliness of the place has tanked.

Old Chicago is old school but it's always the same thing at least. You know what to expect anyway.

Trident 1 will be pretty busy since its an away game. Great place to watch home games since everyone heads to McKale. Try the gumbo & clam chowder!

Other options: Reds Smokehouse, Brothers Johns, Native Grill, Lindys patio, Boca on 4th or Barrio Brewery

I take it trident 1 is the original one on Campbell and speedway?

Thanks for the tips Jefe! In your opinion what would be good for a 3yo cats fan? (The 8mo will just sleep) If I recall correctly trident might be a bit to bar-ish for kids. maybe lindys?

The goal here is to find a place where I can help infect my already wildcats crazy daughter with cats fever. (And give the wife a taste of how Tucson turns out for games as a point of civic pride) Parenting....

Correct. Trident can be pretty loud though for games. The food is incredible but its definitely more of a dive bar

I would do Brother Johns, Barrio or Reds. Brother Johns is huge and the food is excellent. Plus they have lounges away from bar you can sit at with the fam. Barrio has 2 separate rooms both with a good amount of TVs, a huge projector and great food. Reds is on University and has amazing food. The TV selection is lacking if you aren't at the bar but they do have an outdoor patio. All three should have audio on for the game. Native has a great TV setup but I dont know about the gameday crowd. Definitely family orientated though. Lindys has excellent burgers but does not have a good TV selection. Its in the old Bumsteds on 4th so people watching will be interesting from the patio

Second on Brother Johbn's having good food. I haven't been there for a game, but the BBQ is excellent. It's easy to get to/from also. I wasn't as blown away by Barrio, but I haven't been there in a long time.

I'd offer more but I'm further north and CST porbably doesn't want to get that far from the university area.
