The time to move to Denver was about 5-10 years ago. Prices have doubled if not more. But yea the weather is insanely schizophrenic

As someone who is going to be moving to La Crosse, Wisconsin in the next 12 months I'm not sure how to feel. I don't mind cold, never have (my Swedish blood is built for it),even though I've never experienced months long severe cold. I don't even usually wear a jacket in Tucson when it's in the 30s or 40s. Hoodie or long sleeve shirt at most.

What I am not looking forward to is the extra work involved with snow and cold. I hate the heat, but it doesn't require me to do more work. In Wisconsin I'll spend dozens of hours a year just shoveling, scraping, putting down salt etc etc. It's the time commitment that will bother me

I wouldn't call Denver "snow country". Yeah, it snows, but then it warms right back up and all the snow melts in a couple of days. Give me that over snow piled up all winter and never seeing the sun like I get here in God's country...

I grew up in Michigan, and it wasn't until I moved to Colorado Springs that I knew that the sun could be out and snow would stay on the ground. In Michigan it would go days and weeks without the sun coming out.

Like in the movie Fargo.

Lived in Chicago until I was 5, and hated the snow.

What Chi said is what everyone I know up there is telling me. Cold and warm days in the same week even.

Plus now, when the weather is shitty, everyone just works from home so you don't even have to deal with it that much.

If it happens we are not not planning on buying a place. I want to be flexible as I get closer to checking out of the workforce (and country if necessary).

I won't be able to participate in the Legalize It thread until I retire due to job constraints.

Then I met a hippie chick from Boulder and went to live with her and discovered Colorado winters are stunning, brilliant explosions of light and snow. Scum, you may need plenty of alcohol to combat SeasonalAffectiveDisorder in Wiscy.

I dipped my seasoned drinking toe into the alcoholic waters that was the La Crosse Oktoberfest 2 weeks ago. I thought I could keep up, as it was just the quiet, calm, Thursday night Craft beer fest portion. 3 hours later after discovering that craft beer fests in Wisconsin mean "here's a pint glass and this event is all you can drink with bratwurst burritos"…...…......

I fell on my face in a parking lot and begged to go home and sleep (my rapidly approaching middle age, somewhat overweight ass can't compete). These people are insane, professional, trained animals. Wisconsinites are another level of drinkers.

A "Medicane" apparently is what it's called. Eastern Mediterranean waters are 1-3 degrees warmer than average currently so parts of Egypt, the Sinai, Israel and Palestine may see 40 mph winds and 7-9 inches of rain in a single day, which is 10+ times the normal amount for the entire month of October.

Well the Atlantic hurricane season technically goes through November. While it might not happen every year, its not all that unusual.

It’s actually very unusual. It would have been the latest a hurricane has ever formed in the North Atlantic since records have been kept. But it never reached hurricane level. Currently it’s a tropical storm and heading into colder waters.

Mt Lemmon Ski Valley should open this weekend if they open the roads back up tomorrow. Im heading up if so. This was 10 mins ago

When Lemmon is good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's really bad.

23 degree wind chill at my house in Tucson currently. Pavers up to my front door and the rain puddles are iced over.

Did not make it up to Mt Lemmon as the road was closed until 10A Sunday to 4x4 only. 3 mile long line extended well beyond Houghton trying to get up there.

It’s been warm winter with very little snow here in the Midwest, and yet it’s been pretty depressing. Here’s why midwest winters suck:

^ When I lived in south central MI as a kid in the 1960's and early 1970's I rarely saw the sun during the winter.

It wasn't until I moved to Colorado in the late 1970's I realized the sun could be out and there could be snow on the ground.


Out here in Central Cali, we have had such a mild winter that my fruit trees have not gone into dormancy. I went to prune them and saw there was a new crop of apples and apple flowers.

Same exact experience for me. I've always said: anyone who thinks Montana is beautiful never spent a winter in Missoula.

....compared to Boulder, CO, which was edenic.

I don't know how you could get warm even if your furnace ran 24/7.
