I drove through some of that hail yesterday afternoon in Denver. Enjoying my first cool summer in over 34 years after living in Tucson, Phoenix, Florida, and El Paso during that time.

It will only reach 100 in Tucson today. Get out and enjoy the reprieve.

Yeah actually for the next 7 days it's going to between 96-100 so it's basically like winter has come early

Boy are you wrong. The smoke from the fire gets in your nose, mouth, throat, and lungs, and it helps you focus less on the heat as your specific source of discomfort. You barely even notice the sweat-and-friction-induced lesions on your perineum and upper thighs. It's practically like being in Boise.

Boise has singular winters easily the envy of Tucson: gray fetid cold with a stagnant atmosphere occluded and redolent of a rancid Flying J chicken fryer.

My daughter in eastern NC was telling us during our daily video chat that she is stuck inside her house with her newborn baby due to the Saharan dust storm. Says it making quite the haze. Fortunately she has central air and a separate air purifier.

And after that one day of torrential rain... nothing. Going to be pushing record temps this week and dry as a bone for the foreseeable future. Somehow we have almost normal amounts of precipitation so far with only 2 storms.

Just got back from a 5 day dash over to Merkin's neck of the woods. It was 116 in Needles. It's 110 in Sedona (car thermometer). But under the marine layer along the central coast it was a glorious, luxuriant 60-70 degrees most of the day.

It has been a high of 72 for about 10 days straight. Foggy mornings, burns off around 11am, then breezy afternoons.

It's like a year without a summer. Going to heat up a bit this weekend, but then cooling down again.

Don't mind the cool temps, but the wind drives me nuts.

110 in Tucson right now. 115 at my friend's house in Phoenix. 104 in Sedona. This is going to be one of the worst monsoons in memory.

You get major props for living where you do, but if you crow too much and make me even more envious I'll be forced to whinge about the Cali cost of gas and food, and then put you on ignore. So be nice.

My youngest son lives in Pacific Beach, and my daughter lived in Coronado for 3 years and wants to get back there.

No AC required in summer, and not sure they ever turned on the heater in winter.

There are times when one would trade the heat of the fifth circle of hell for the mild embrace of boring. It was 90 degrees inside when we got home at 2PM. The AC ran non-stop until 2AM to beat the thermal mass down to 74 degrees.

I think its broken 80 at the beach maybe a handful of times since the beginning of June. Growing up in Tucson and then living in Ohio, I will never leave. Seasons are overrated. Big Bear and Julian are close enough for some fall/winter for an hour or two when needed.

Seasons are overrated!

One of my Tucson brothers has a time share in Julian, and goes there over the Christmas holidays. Of course Julian is known for just one thing, the pies.

Spent many a Thanksgiving in Ohio growing up as that's where my mother's family lived, and lives, mostly Columbus area now.

I grew up in Michigan, and after I left told myself that I could never live where it snowed again, and meant it.

I do open up my house probably 360 days out of the year and cook outside constantly, breakfast and dinner.

However, outside of my family in Tucson, the thing I miss most is warm summer nights and being able to sit outside late at night. I know there are none left, but used to love going to the drive ins in Tucson. There are some here, but I haven't been since my kids were little due to the cold.

Especially with no DST in Tucson, you think they would still be really popular. Used to be 6 in Tucson when I lived there.

Should hit us in the next 15-20 minutes.

A buddy 45 miles west of me just texted to say he’s got trees down everywhere and no power. Said it sounded like a 747 landing.

Right now it’s dead calm though. And real quiet. No birds or grasshoppers chirping at all. That can’t be a good sign.

Went pitch black outside, then the house shook pretty significantly and the power went out. But we are ok. Doesn’t look like we have any damage.

So far they've tracked 11 tornadoes that moved through my area during that event. All of which thankfully missed our house. But there's still people without power just 10-15 minutes south of us due to wind damage.

Yea Phoenix is almost intolerable most of the year now. I have no idea how it's going to survive with it's water and energy needs for cooling. As it is there's like 4 months a year now where it doesn't really get below 80 degrees. Which means millions of air conditioners running 24/7 for months on end. In 10 or 20 years I bet the average temp in Phoenix will be above 100 for nearly half of the year. Probably April to October.

Two weeks ago, driving from Bakersfield to Paso Robles, I didn't see a single non-farm green growing thing other than oak trees. A fire in your country would be a holocaust.
