It's actually pretty sad that people still look at the Farmer's Almanac. But I'm glad to know that it will be "thundery" this summer. I really just wasn't expecting that.

Heading to Pinetop for Fathers Day weekend and I hope these 2 fires dont converge. The latest update shows good progress on Mescal, lots of burns along 77 and 70 so its done heading north and west. Need to get more resources over to Telegraph. Really close to Miami/Superior

A guy I work with said it took them 9 hours to get back from Alpine between the fire road closures and the bad accident on I-10 Sunday. (Think it was near Benson)

Wow thats a rough route. They sounded pretty optimistic that Mescal would be under control by this weekend so hoping 77 is open next week. Still haven't figured out a cause. Telegraph was man made.

Cool, I might just do it. For anyone that looks at weather models, the GFS ensemble (GEFS) goes out 31 days on each 00z run which could help in the competition.

Thought things were bad out in Cali:

After an abysmally dry monsoon and a rainfall total of a mere 4.17 inches at Tucson International Airport, 2020 went in the books as the city's driest year on record.

Yeah it was bad last year and so far this year isn't any better. In the last 2 years we've had less than 1 years worth of rain. If the monsoon and winter this year aren't at least normal then we're really fucked next year

The last three days have been full of virga all around the Verde Valley. It's as if a monsoon fantasy is brewing. Lots of wildfire smoke today. Feels early. Feels weird.

Just spent the last 45 minutes in the basement with no power while a tornado-warned storm kicked the crap out of us up above.

Nothing proves you’re a great dad worthy of everything said about you on Father’s Day like going from dead asleep to getting your whole family to a safe place within 30 seconds of hearing the tornado siren go off.

Basements are underrated. Stay safe brother. Out here in the west we're starting to be surrounded by wildfire. Wind-driven blowup of 10,000 acres this afternoon about 20-25 miles west of town.

Is everyone you know okay?

What's your house damage?

I've had so many times with my wife, kid, and pets huddled in the shower in the basement with a radio. Then we'd emerge and start dealing with the house damage. Once, it even happened in December.

Everyone I know is ok thankfully.

No damage to our house outside of a small decorative tree getting uprooted and some tree limbs down.

Kids and dog were pretty freaked out about being woken up and told to take cover, but everyone is just fine.

I lived thru 2 bad tornadoes. The Topeka Tornado of 66 was an F5 tornado and is considered one of the worst tornadoes in US history. Here is the wiki kink: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornado_o ... _June_1966

We hunkered down at the basement of the AA place my dad frequented. I was 5 at the time and all I remember is coming home and there were trees and tree limbs everywhere and several houses in our neighborhood were completely gone. Our houses was fine. The wiki says that 18 people died from tornadoes over a period of 11 days in 1966.

The 2nd bad one was in Nebraska at my grandparents. My grandparents owned a motel and part of the roof came off. Luckily I was at my cousins house and they had no damage. My parents said it was loud as shit when the tornado was ripping the roof off the motel. Needless to say, when we moved to AZ when I was 9, I didn't miss tornadoes. Fuck that shit. I even lived thru a tornado at school once.

The random nature of tornadoes makes them so hard to predict and get away from. Looks like the ones last night skipped along. They’d be on the ground for a while, then lift and skip some areas, then they’d touch down again a few miles along.

My kids were questioning why we even went into the basement last night… until I showed them pics of places near us where roofs were ripped off and 100 year old oaks were ripped out of the ground and tossed into the air.

My home town - Toledo, OH - was hit by an F4 tornado on Palm Sunday, in 1965. I had been out hiking with college friends all day during heavy, steady winds - got sunburned, too. We had pizza and beers afterward. I dropped a friend off at his parents' house, and five minutes later the tornado went through his block. No heavy damage there, other than trees and roofs. I was unaware until I woke up the next morning.

The tornado had cut a six-mile long path across the northern edge of Toledo. A bus on Interstate 75 had been lifted and smashed upside down, killing five occupants. Homes were leveled, swept clean to their foundations, and debris scattered hundreds of yards by this F-4 tornado. Eight people were killed in their homes.
