It poured here in Phoenix right before I got off work. The high today was 75. It's actually going to be cold tonight. I've never seen this in the 25 years I've lived in Arizona (Tucson/Phoenix). Nor have I seen this much rain in May. This is crazy.

same in my 18 years in Phoenix and 11 in Tucson. Having a early March type wintery storm coming through in mid May is just weird. It absolutely never rains from about may 5-June 15.

I was in tombstone today and it didn't feel like it even hit 65. Of course Tombstone is at 4400 feet too.

Me too. We need the rain. We are also supposed to have a very wet monsoon season. It's caused by a super El Nino.

I heard about an El Nino all last year too, and it completely disappeared. 80 percent chance, 70 percent chance, then next thing you know it's 20% chance.

Neighbor put in a barrier that channels all his runoff into my backyard. There is a river up to the middle of my shin running through my backyard right now. Yippee.

My daughter and their hubby (Navy) moved to San Antonio from San Diego a month or so ago.

It has rained pretty much every day she has been there. She was freaking out the other night since they had a tornado warning and she was home alone. I told her to just stock up water and such in the bathroom, and if need be lay in the tub.

Time to dig a channel that runs it right back.

It is horrific. Going on a month of straight rain. Saw the aquifer overflowing in the park the other day. Never seen that - basically just random spouting springs all over the place. It has been a seriously fucked up spring.

Nope, the grade of the land would not allow. He is cool though so I'm sure we'll work something out. Took pictures of the rapids coming into my yard at the point of entry. Need to run a french drain on that side of the property out to the street - he'll probably split it with me...

..either that or I'm going to build a stone planter box that runs the length of the lot.

It's going to reach the mid 100's this weekend in Phoenix. I'm sure Tucson will be close to 100 too. So summer has finally arrived. Not looking forward to the concrete heat island effect.

I promised to never complain about rain after to 2011, but holy shit with the freaking rain.

Thoughts and prayers to all those missing and suffering in Whimberley and San Marcos. Sounds like they are down to just 30 missing. I just can't imagine...

OMG Dill, what an incredible story. So sad. Can you imagine the water creeping up and then finally dragging the house off it's foundation. Next thing you know you are bouncing up and down in the flow of the river.

That is scary beyond belief. You come to a city to have a little family time and you are swept away. Life is just not fair. This is a story where angels need to step in and save these poor kids and the Mom.

Hasn't been updated in a week, but you would think at central Texas would fall off the map.

Unfortunately in huge rains like this most of the water ends up running off the surface once the top layer of soil is saturated, so while this epic series of storms will help it might not be as much as we'd think.

What's crazy about that map is Mass. and Conn. having any drought conditions at all after this past winter's epic snows.

yes. most of the state is good, but there are still some areas in deep west Texas that are hurting. The majority of the lakes are back up to full pool.

They have flooded before, but they rebuilt the pump and drainage system so they haven't flooded in like 15 years.

It's about to get real in Texas if this tropical storm hits us dead on and moves slowly (which is what is being predicted). The rivers are full and the ground is saturated, and they are talking about 10-20 inches of rain over a 48 hour period.

I stopped by CVS about 10 minutes ago and they are literally scanning in cases of water from the truck and handing them to a line of customers to go check out. Water, ice, and batteries are completely off the shelves.

We can't handle much more rain up here either. We've already had some fairly significant localized flooding, and if that depression rides a frontal boundary up our way, we're looking at a more widespread flooding event. Not good...

such a funny thing. huge chunks of the country are drying up and blowing away and leading to a massive environmental and economic fallout while not that far away there is way more rain than they can deal with.
