I invited everyone. I went to members and went down the list via PM or profile message.

Everybody active there or on the AZCats Facebook knows about here.

Other than the fact that he called me a liar for saying that Sarah Palin wasn't properly vetted, he wasn't too crazy.

A 29 page thread on JJ after he says he's not coming to Arizona. Everyone has to put their 200 cents in.

Frankly, it's a complete waste of money...unless you like reading some opinions on a handful of guys not on this board.

If I wasn't so fucking lazy, I'd call the number to cancel already.

Whatever happened to Reyditudo? I don't remember any board wars or melt downs here concerning him. I still am in his FB UA BB group but he hasn't posted here in quite some time.

Even named a board here after him!

I missed putting someone on ignore, so this morning I ran into a thread that starts Ferguson at the 4.

Just be careful or you'll find yourself in a conversation that devolves into a series of "what if" scenarios where it turns out Pastner was the right choice at coach all along.

I want to read more about Ferguson over there... just having trouble deciding which thread to read. Should I go:

Terrance Ferguson set to announce
Ferguson announcing Wednesday!
T Ferg
After Ferguson commits...
On Ferguson
More on Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson
Ferguson Latest Tweet
Jackson vs. Ferguson

Or should I look what threads are on the 2nd page?

The funny thing is that I look at our board and see that there's a Ferguson thread and a 2016 recruiting thread and I think to myself "seems like there's one too many of these".

Wasn't there an AOL Pac-10 message board about 20 years ago?

I imagine these pay for premium information sites will go the same way as dial up text only sites.

Anyone pay for porn anymore?

The AOL boards were back when most accessed the internet via a service like AOL...

... They were really good for a couple of years, and had team sites, not conferences - just as the first web-based boards were - small communities, effective self moderation, but more fans-based than insider-info based.

The flash sales are the culprit. The paywall separates the civil and rational from utter anarchy. Those 3-4 months for price of one sales bring in far too many who haven't the understanding, control, or desire to just abide rather than espouse everything via their own threaded soapbox.

Even on this site, not counting Hot/Not, I'd bet I have fewer than 50 threads started by me.

And this is literally a site I've helped build from ground zero.

I'd bet some of the newbies have more started threads at Scout than I do in 12 years there.

I've been a Scout premium member ever since Gershon and Scheer went over there. I think I've started maybe 5 threads total.

The IQ level is through the floor. After too many years there, I've just become outwardly hostile to the stupidity on that board now. Such a waste of the staff's efforts. I'm going to have to get myself banned because Scout doesn't answer the phones after 5 M-F.

I wonder about any pay for information web service when there is so much information out there for free.

I often shake my head (internally) when I hear some young student saying they want to go into journalism.

You have to be destined, as strange as that sounds, to do it, Merkin. It's popular but doesn't pay sh*t. I was very blessed to land on my feet in a sports writer position, but the starting pay and "dying newspaper industry" kept me in my backup career choice for 14 years.
Longhorned wrote:Gershon and Scheer are great and will land on their feet. I hope they get better circumstances and Scout just kind of falls apart.
If we were asked to support a donation-based model to get Scheer over here and link to Gershon's stuff, I'd support that 100 percent.

Including their salary, benefits, and expenses, we'd have to come up with about 240K annually. But if 60 the more active users of this site go in on it, we could do it for a little over $330 per month each. Let'd do it.

Well, to be clear, I was referring more to Scheer. We wouldn't have to support Gershon since he's national anyway, right?

So what's the status of Scout Premium, is it worth re-upping right now? Are the good posters, i.e., Winger, Rey, HHM, excatdb and the like still posting over there or has it become some sort of shit show like the free Scout board always was. I miss those guys, but I don't want to re-up if it's just the mouth breathers and one duplicative thread after another . . .

You can look at the threads and see the posters. See Winger. Garlick is still around? That's a name from the pat.

Jason is having a flash sale on Scout Premium - 4 months for the the price of one. Worth it to my mind if you've wanted to check it out. Just long enough to get you through football season and hooked on hoops . . . Be good to have any of you over there too.

Merkin wrote:What's this about? You making Chief mad!

Good 'ol Chief has just been pointing out some of the things he's said in the past that are now coming to fruition, a few "I told you so" posts here and there. He's been on point with a few things to his credit. Nothing you haven't heard before - recruiting, personnel, etc. Chief being Chief. He's taken to calling RR "Richard" in a condescending way in all of his posts. It seems to irritate Scheer. I think it's kind of funny myself. In fact, he seems to irritate Scheer more than anyone else over there. He still gets called out a bit, but overall most don't seem to let him get under their skin. I still think his insight is worthwhile, but you have to balance it out with everything else as always.

There are two, maybe three, posters in particular over there who refuse to let go of the "injury excuse" and believe that the injuries absolve the entire shit show that has become this season and the Arizona football program at this point. They just keep citing the injuries by rote over and over and over again admonishing the rest of us for being negative bad fans and not supporting the program, i.e, RR. They seem to think we should continue to be rah rah at all times and not have any legitimate discussions about what ails the program. Pretty lively discussion for the most part.

I almost never go over there. Last time was a plea to let you guys know I was fine and couldn't log on. Locks up my laptop as well. Nothing worthwhile either. Only ever had Premium on GOAZ, back when Gershon and Hansen were there. Talk about business suicide - that's why we are all HERE!
