If you shove them into a cop’s tailpipe it makes for a hilarious film scene and an awkward moment trying to make “shove a banana in the tailpipe” not sound like a euphemism for anal sex.

In the interest of peace I'll qualify that statement: I've never had an egg roll in America that I would willingly revisit. In my experience they are little more than deep fried lettuce in an armor of crap-wrap. Even in Sydney's Chinatown I thought they were a waste of event. If you can steer me to a domestic experience worth undertaking I will build a shrine to you, otherwise I'll stick with dumplings.

Hells yeah, dim sum and dumplings are where it’s at.

I had to leave Arizona to learn about this delicious culinary tradition back in the day.

I love egg rolls. However, I'll qualify that with the idea I'm pretty sure I've never had a proper one.

I’ve eaten and thoroughly enjoyed gas station egg rolls that have been rotating on a roller grill for hours if not days.

I should talk. I have a thing for theater hotdogs replete with every condiment available including ketchup (take that you fucking dawg purists!). It's equivalent to eating a bio hazard site, but the heart wants what it wants.

But no toxic food debauchery will remedy the pain of that game. Give it up.

I first encountered Merkin's midwestern sandwich at the Blue Dolphin in Isla Vista, California.

Peanut butter and pickles is a damn good sandwich, too. Beloved all over America.

My favorite will always be the peanut butter and bologna sandwich. Anybody who ever swooned at the suggestion of that combination, but then proceeded to try it, has agreed that's a damn good sandwich.

Speaking of stuff that got folks through the Great Depression, my Grandmother picked a lot of lamb's quarter. It's kinda sorta West Texas poke salad.

On the depression food topic:

You like Maple Syrup on your pancakes? My Grandmother would put a quarter inch layer of sugar on her pancakes, then pour over a shit load of bacon grease.

Tastes like heaven on a plate, but I reckon it would immediately stop the heart of any mortal human.

My mom told me her family in Wisconsin in the 30s was so poor they use to eat bacon grease sandwiches. And lots of head cheese. Yuck.

My dad told me they used to get salt pork from the government, which I think is just a big chunk of fat to cook your beans in.

You don't like headcheese? Headcheese is amazing. One of my favorite foods, period. When I spend time in Muslim countries without pork, I can't stop thinking about headcheese.
