Beef Pho and Vietnamese meatloaf from Miss Saigon.

Pho really is my favorite food but why does it cause instant diarrhea?!

Took the wife out between her evening meetings. Shawarma, falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, pita bread, and all the trimmings.

But if beer is proof that God loves us, what does it mean when Middle Eastern restaurants serve precisely that food I ate tonight and offer no beer to go with it?

The friendly Canadian GF made squash ravioli with a carmelized onion wine gorgonzola reduction sauce. It was excellent. Oh, and with chopped walnuts too. Even better.

All ingredients from TJ's too so this could go in the report over in that thread.

What I really need to do, however, is park my ass in the Weight Loss thread for some inspiration. This going-on-2-years romance with the GF, she's Italian and can cook, has thwarted all of the health progress I made a couple of years back . . .

I agree, the principal value of exercise is to eat that kind of food all the time.

I made a pumpkin risotto. I decided that the secret to a good pumpkin risotto is to forgo pealing, seeding, and chopping, and instead start with the Birds Eye frozen block of winter squash. Mix with parmesan. Cover with salted, roasted pumpkin seeds, and more parmesan.

I was going to have sirloin beef tips, which consists of steak cut into cubes mixed mushrooms and onions sauteed in butter and red wine served on a bed of rice, with grilled asparagus on the side. I put the steak on the grill, went back to the kitchen to start the onions and mushrooms and by the time I got back outside, the steaks and asparagus were on fire. I had the rice and the mushrooms and onions with a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. I felt like a failure for a while, but polishing off the bottle of wine fixed that.

I feel that way, too. Apparently Gerard Depardieu feels that way x 14:

Scotch broth: lamb shoulder stewed with barley, leeks, onions, and root vegetables (I'm doing celery root and carrots)

seems to me like a Navajo mutton stew, but with a scone instead of the fry bread

Forgot to follow up:

I mixed in some top sirloin, but both turned out excellent, but the Tritip seemed to cook a bit slower. Marinated them all day, flash seared, then reseasoned, then grilled at roughly 350-F for 5 minutes per side.

I'm going on a work assignment to southern Louisiana for 2weeks starting Sunday. Wife and daughter went to visit family in San Francisco tonight.

Left over Persian cutlets, wrapped in a tortilla, left over sauted chicken in another tortilla. Fiber one granola bar. Roma tomato eaten raw. Eaten over sink.

I like married life. I don't want to go back to eating like this.

Apple for dessert.

I'd treat myself to a bachelor night out (beers, not babes of course), but I have to be up at 4.

Yup, just me, the cat, and Thursday night football tonight.

Just me and Thursday night football, CST.

Room service sucked. Seared salmon fillet with fingerling potatoes and wilted arugula, and a Caesar salad. They found a way to mess it all up. I should just go on Lipitor and order the burger and fries.

So I'm doing some work in Eastern NC this weekend and have BBQ tour of Eastern NC Legends on the way back to Durham this evening.

The rules: Standardizing my tour to pulled pork/chopped pork BBQ sandwiches WITH coleslaw on top only. Must eat with hushpuppies. Will eat the first half without bbq sauce, will divy up the second half with sauces that are available. preference for vinegar based sauces due the where I will be traveling.

The Line-up
1. King's BBQ in Kinston NC
2. Wilbur's BBQ in Goldsboro NC
3. Parker's BBQ in Wilson NC

(due to travel route, will have to omit B's in Greenville for now, but this is on the NC bucket list)

Should break up the 2.5hr trip home nicely, Yes, my belt has notches to expand. :)
