I'm in Ketchikan right now. They get approx 13 feet of rain per year, but none today.

That's a real flood.

That microburst/mini-hurricane Sunday night was one of the craziest I have ever been in. I had just left the house when it hit and was heading south down Campbell. It felt like 60+ mph winds but didnt move my vehicle. All of the traffic lights were out, huge trees down in the road, and flashes from the power lines. I floored it and got through Roger as it looked like power poles were going to topple. Got my wingstop and headed back north and it was even worse. Over a foot of water in the middle turn lane on Campbell which I have never seen. I had to drive head on into traffic a couple times to avoid branches and trash cans.

RainLog said we got about 1.5" that day. In less than 25 minutes the wash was bank to bank. Got up the next morning to out 35' tree on the ground. Barely missed the house.

You can still see the destruction on Campbell and River today. Winterhaven got hit hard as well

Those trees in Winterhaven are nuts. Our friends that lives there lost a tree that fell into her pool. Our rain gauge showed exactly 1.5 inches.

Funny to imagine you flooring it thru torrential rain and dodging downed trees and powerlines to pick up wings haha. But glad you made it home safely.

so many streets in town become 6-18 inches deep in water after less than 15 minutes of rain. I wonder why they never built decent drainage into the vast majority of tucson.

Been years since I lived there, but remember hearing the streets are supposed to flood in certain areas, that was part of the plan...

While I was in Ketchikan the guide commented that the weather was unusually nice that day. It was partly cloudy and no rain. They average 13' of rain a year. That's right, 13 feet. It rains 280 days a year there. It rains so much that the high school baseball team plays on gravel. If they try grass it gets way to muddy.

Get ready you midwesterners. When the corn sweats you know you will be getting some pretty severe swamp ass.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/17/weather/e ... ntent=link" target="_blank

High temperatures, 'corn sweat' form dangerous heat dome over U.S.

Cities such as Des Moines, Kansas City, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City and Chicago are expected to see temperatures nearing or exceeding 100 degrees -- and when humidity is added in, the heat index may rise to a dangerous 120 degrees.

working in Catalina and we've been absolutely rocked by a monster storm since about 415. at least a dozen lightning strikes within half a mile, a few within a hundred yards or so. and based on the volume of rain it is probably about 2 inches of precipitation too.

Those things are scary. The one that hit where I live a couple weeks ago was insane. Sunny outside and I couldn't really tell a storm was coming....and 5 minutes later it was dark outside with tropical rain downpours and 60 MPh winds.

So I'm getting off work here in Phoenix and the monsoon rain was so intense that I couldn't see the building across the street. The trees were bending horizontal and I saw a tree break and land on a car. And I thought I was going to be able to show off with my umbrella handy. Even thought it was still raining I decided to cross the street, The street was a river and the water reached up to almost my knee just before the opposite side curb. I did make it home (I liver very close by) and my garden patio was flooded to ankle deep. Thank goodness my front door is elevated a little higher than my patio.
