Good riddance.

Lays off 320 employees, gets a nice bonus/raise.

Collects extra dough from a non-accredited university since the $665K the UA pays her apparently isn't enough.

Why wait? Let Devry pay for the next two years.
Ann Weaver Hart wrote:During the 2016 commencement ceremony at the University of Arizona on May 13, I was struck with the realization that I was presiding over my 14th spring commencement as a university president, even as I was filled with pride in the University of Arizona. I look forward to returning to full-time faculty work as a teacher, scholar, and citizen of the University.
I think she was struck with something more than a realization.

Unfortunately, her bullsh*t generator remains high.

Interesting choices. We are a medical institution in many ways but thing have changed since they sold off UMC to banner Health. Kind of like the ASSU guy (except that part of it)

In Hansen's Sunday Notebook (last slide) he mentions that the CEO of Texas Medical Center is the frontrunner and he's very pro sports. Looks like he'd be a tremendous hire if you take Hansen's words to heart.

UMC hasn't been part of the U since the 80's when it became a separate entity due to a scam pulled by the management that the AZLEG bought. Condensed version: they stopped paying the bills and convinced the people in PHX that the U couldn't run the hospital as well as them. Bam - they owned UMC.

Anyhow, the medical research, teaching and patient care are still a big deal to the U, so a Dr probably wouldn't be a bad choice.

Sorta true. It was still technically a part of the university until about 2 years ago when it was sold to Banner. Even now it's still in partnership with the U for being a teaching hospital. It was administered by a university vice president and was under the U way past the 80s.

The U owned the property and still owns a lot of the existing building and land around it. Banner didn't want to buy the main elevator bank. So we own them and everything south.

UMC was a separate entity. My ex started working there in the early 90's and she was not a U of A employee. That never really changed when they co-opted the U of A name and brand for the U of A Health Network.

Well as recently as a couple years ago they were ran by UA employees and most employees were technically state employees. When they were bought out by Banner people lost their minds because they were no longer going to get those sweet state employee perks.

Dr. Bobby Robbins, president and CEO of the Texas Medical Center Corp., is the lone finalist for the president job at the University of Arizona in Tucson, according to media reports.

Having been a lone finalist and then not getting the job in Academia, I hesitate a bit at the wording here. Sounds like he's the guy and it's done. He's even talking about Arizona and the Phoenix Final 4.

But I'm seeing lots of talk of him being offered, or is the lone finalist, but not much talking about him actually accepting, or signing yet.

The word on the street is that he feels strongly about the role of sports in an academic environment.

The Arizona board of regents is expected to finalize its selection at a March 13 meeting with contract negotiations to begin after that. The vote on the finalist is expected to take place April 6, according to a statement from the board. Robbins would replace Ann Weaver Hart, who announced in June 2016 she would not seek a contract extension, according to reports.

There's nothing in doubt here. New hires are chosen pending approval from the Board of Regents. In this case, the Board of Regents itself conducted the search and selected the finalist. In the one case in recent memory I can remember when a board of regents for a state university system did not approve a hire, it was national news and resulted in a lawsuit, other top administrators losing their jobs, and all kinds of other fallout.
