sucks he never got to see the movie released about him (the rights to the movie were bought almost 60 years ago)

Ms. Hillenbrand’s book, “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” recounted in vivid detail how Mr. Zamperini — a track star at the University of Southern California and an airman during the war — crashed into the Pacific, was listed as dead and spent 47 days adrift in a life raft before his capture by the Japanese. It rose to No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list.

Universal Pictures purchased rights to the book. The film, directed by Angelina Jolie and starring Jack O’Connell as Mr. Zamperini, is to be released in December.

I've had the book for a couple of years, but have yet to read it. I'll have to dig it out.

Hillenbrand's book, Seabiscuit, was excellent.

I'll read the book. Someone I know was just telling me about this guy when we were chatting about the Japanese during WWII. Too bad he couldn't make it to the premiere. That's a great pic above.

yeah you should all read the book. it's absolutely the most amazing life story of a person i've ever read.

I read the book after Coach Miller recommended it last summer or the year before. A great book and a more amazing life.

Finished the book today. An amazing man with an extraordinary story.

The author sure don't pull any punches regarding the horrors in his life, even after the war and his PTSD.

Amazing the stats in the book. Forgot the exact number, but 40% of US prisoners died in Japanese POW camps, compared to 1% in German POW camps. Yet many Japanese prison guards were freed in the early 1950s due to the Red Fear and needing Japan's support.

More Air Corp members were killed in training accidents than died during the war.

Yeah..there were thousands of plane crashes across the U.S.during the war. That's what happens when you give fancy military planes to cocky and completely new to flying 19-21 year olds.
