I like Jared Goff.

I just don't want him to QB my favorite football team any more.

Jordan Rodrigue has a nice outline of the Rams' options with Goff. Spoiler alert: none of them are great.

Pro-Tip... don't give a guy a huge amount of guaranteed money after just one good year. Goff, Gurley, and Tavon Austin have all proved that's a real shitty way to run a team.

Would love to read that article Chi if I was a subscriber. ;)

So I like that the Rams go big at times to build their team but you are right they need to be careful on the huge guaranteed money front. I mean Donald and Ramsey yes.

BTW, you will like this statement from Ramsey. :-)

I do like it, but Jalen doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I’ve lost all confidence that the Rams have enough to trade for Deshaun.

Jordan’s article basically lays out that the only way Goff isn’t the QB next year is if Wofford beats him for the job in training camp.

Blech....

After the Texans said they have no plans to trade Watson, I’m actually a little more confident he might be a Ram next year. If Watson holds out and won’t participate in offseason activities and makes it clear he won’t play, Houston might have their hand forced. And if Goff is traded after June 1st, his cap hit goes from $22.2M in dead money to $6.8M. Also it will be after the 2021 draft so the fact that the Rams don’t have a #1 pick this year won’t matter.

Still, here is how I would rank the Rams QB situation possibilities in 2021:

1) Goff
2) Wofford
3) Stafford
4) Watson
5) Rodgers

Don't get me excited.

Again, the Rams have shown a propensity to go for the big move so my fingers are crossed.

The Rams haven't had a first round pick since 2016 when they traded up for Goff. It's gonna be 7 years straight without a first round pick. Just crazy.

They feel like they don’t need one because where they would pick you’re basically getting a fringe first round/high second round talent anyway. They’d rather have Ramsey and Stafford and I don’t blame them.

The Rams now have a two year window to win a Super Bowl. After that the defense will start to decline. I’m really impressed with the fact that they don’t want to waste Aaron Donald’s prime years.

Not even sure how it’s possible with how far over the cap they are, but they are bringing back Leonard Floyd on a four year deal. And I’m pretty pumped about it.

They will have to restructure Donald’s and Ramsey’s contracts to pay them via bonus in order to get under the cap.

But they are going to lose guys. Johnny Johnson signed with the Browns. The good news is they have safety depth. Ebukam was signed by the ‘49ers but again pass rushers is not an issue especially with Floyd resigning.

Now let’s get a deep threat for Stafford.

Well they said they did but I’m only seeing that Ramsey’s and Woods contracts were restructured. That only gets them halfway there. They also need to restructure Donald’s, Kupp and Whitworths too to not only get under the cap but absorb the Floyd resigning.

But yeah, they do seem to be Cap magicians.

The flip side of this is that some free agents won’t get resigned like possibly Everett & Hill which would be unfortunate.

They are also trading Brockers to Detroit after not being able to agree to a restructured contract.

That will be nice and awkward since Brockers called Stafford a “step up” from Goff.

I like the Jones pick. Need to shore up LB position.
Traded down with the 49er's as I thought so they now have 5 picks today.

Expect them to get some line help (both sides really) as well as secondary.

I still like the TuTu pick still. Stafford needs weapons to stretch the defense and not sure Jackson still has the speed and the jury is still out on Jefferson. In any case, lot's of options at McVay's disposal and I'm sure he's chomping on the bit to augment his offensive scheme.

Yeah, I don’t get it. Needed to draft a Center and Whitworth’s replacement and didn’t get either. Instead they picked up a CB and LB with no coverage skills, a WR who weighs less than I did in high school, and another WR who is a physical freak but had less than 50 catches in college and averaged less than 2 yards per route run.

Maybe Les had Covid brain and should have handed the reigns to someone else while he recovered. Pro Football Focus gave the Rams a “C” but honestly it feels like they were grading them on a curve. I’d give this draft a “D-”.

Couple of tough stretches in the schedule.

After the first game at home against the Bears the next five are going to be a difficult road. At Indy (which I hope to be at), Tampa at home, Arizona at home and then they have to immediately fly up to Seattle for a Thursday night game, then they go to NY to face the Giants who will have a great defense.

The Goff/Stafford matchup will be fun in week 7.
Wish we were going to SF after the Bye, not before.

After the Bye the only "easy" game will be Jacksonville at home. The rest of those games are a gauntlet. Thankfully SF and Seattle will be at SoFi. But the trips to Green Bay (depending on who the QB is), Minnesota, and Baltimore could be rough.

I think they'll end up 11-6.

Sept. 12 Chicago W
Sept. 19 at Indianapolis W
Sept. 26 Tampa Bay L
Oct. 3 Arizona W
Oct. 7 at Seattle L
Oct. 17 at N.Y. Giants W
Oct. 24 Detroit W
Oct. 31 at Houston W
Nov. 7 Tennessee W
Nov. 15 at San Francisco L
BYE
Nov. 28 at Green Bay L
Dec. 5 Jacksonville W
Dec. 13 at Arizona L
Dec. 19 Seattle W
Dec. 26 at Minnesota W
Jan. 2 at Baltimore L
Jan. 9 San Francisco W

I’m guessing the Rams were introduced as a legit option to drive up his price but honestly I wouldn’t take Julio over Woods, and I’d have a serious issue if they gave up any current players other than maybe Van Jefferson.
