Germany v. France

This just might be a pretty epic match. I hope the flu didn't hit the Germans too hard.

Surprisingly non-compelling game. French particularly failed to play with much urgency until it was too late.

Neuer is hard to beat, but I think a good team can exploit Germany's back line. We will see.

I thought the beginning was great but after the goal I think you are right, France (kinda) seemed to sleepwalk through the rest of their loss.

And Brazil with the big early goal.

A quick start for Brazil ...... 1-0

This game is being played at a tremendous pace , and a very high technical skill level, very entertaining stuff.

I actually think Columbia has gotten too emotional (31'). I think if they calmed down a bit and played their game they might find they are the better team, but this emotional war they've got themselves involved in I don't think is doing them any favors.

No Neymar and no Silva against Germany.

That's a tall order, even for a team as good as Brazil.

threatening.

With the game 0-0 in the 61', it looks like Costa Rica should've had a penalty.

Lets go Costa Rica. the 5-3-2 has caused alot of issues this World Cup.

Could very well wind up being an all European final ....

And on a side note , is this

USA becomes viable alternative to Qatar as 2022 hosts as audience is gripped by 2014 World Cup

a possibility ?

What a great Semis this week...4 powerhouse teams going at it.

Too bad about Neymar.

I'm picking Germany and the Dutch to make it an all-European final.

My ESPN FC bracket had Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Spain in the semis, with Argentina beating the Germans in the final. Now I think Germany takes it. They look like the best team with the way they work together and their keeper is so hard to score on. The Dutch looked great in the group stage but have shown flaws in the knockout rounds IMO.

US viewership has very little to do with it. FIFA has always known that the US is the most lucrative host country, even before the ratings blew out the last two cycles.

The US should get 2022 because we are one of two countries on earth that can host the Cup on short notice and with minimal preparation or expenditure, and the other one hosted more recently than we did.

That was one of the worst refereed games I have ever seen in any sport. At least in the Netherlands-Portugal game in 2006, the ref tried to throw the plastic to get the players in check. This ref listened to the FIFA dictate to not card Brazil and let the game become incredibly dangerous. I'm glad that Rodriguez survived. Brazil frankly reaped what they sewed.

exactly. the united states would literally have to build nothing for the world cup. some minor changes to some stadiums might have to be made to fit soccer fields, but as of today in 2014 we'd probably only need 1 year of preparation to host a world cup very effectively. we have almost dozens of sites to host games at already and with the increasing popularity of soccer, i have no doubts that pretty much every game would sell out by 2022.

We have soccer stadiums. Most large stadiums would be able to also accommodate soccer matches

Can't blame Julio Caesar for any of this, Brazil's back four has been beyond atrocious.

Silver lining, makes the USA's 1-0 loss look much more respectable.

Yeah, you can see how much they miss Silva, had no leadership or on ball pressure.

over the PA in the stadium they were announcing for the german fans to stay in their seats until the stadium empties so that they had time to prepare security to escort the german fans from the stadium for their safety.

Experiencing that match today was pure pandemonium. And that was only in a hotel bar in a country with no ties to those teams. How many times I heard someone scream, "Oh my god!!! It's happening again!!!!"

That is common in South American countries.

Every game I was at in Argentina let the visitor fans leave before letting the home team out.
