I am rooting for the Dutch today, mostly because I worked with a lot them over the years and I know how much they yearn for a World Cup.

And a Germany vs. Netherlands final would be interesting for a lot of resons beyond 2 European powers playing each other. The Dutch loathe the Germans. if you've spent time in the Netherlands you would have heard the phrase "give me my bike back" which is a derogatory slur.

It's either a schlieffen plan final or an enemies of Britain final.

Could we just have banned either club from playing in the finals and given it to Germany by default? That was really poor, timid football. Made me remember why most of us Americans don't like football.

Nice bet.

The betting house had bets going all the way to 5-4.

Heh Silva should've probably had a straight red card -in the second minute- of their consolidation game.

Way to go out on a high note Brazil.

Of coarse it shouldn't have been a penalty kick, so the ref got it wrong twice on the same play.

I think Germany and Argentina have similarish levels of talent, but I think Germany has figure out the "Spanish style" (that is, have a half dozen of your national team starters on one club team) and that familiarity brings the Germans a well deserved World Cup.

But here's to an amazing final in any case!

Just 8' in and it seems like Argentina is in for a lot of pressure today. So can they hold long enough to hit on the counter?

(Speaking of counters...nice one from Messi)

Higuain.../shakes head...this kind of stuff is why he was shipped from Real Madrid.

1. Total shank on a sitter...check

2. Running yourself into a super offsides position when negating a goal when you probably could've got to the same spot hanging back a bit on your run...check

3. What's next?

1-0 in overtime.

That would be a SuperBowl game 6-0 or 3-0 in overtime in game ending TD or FG.

3 and out, punt. Repeat.

Game 7 of the World Series ends 1-0 in the bottom of the 10th inning on a walk off home run.

3 up, 3 down. Repeat.

Would Americans be excited about either one of those for the first 2 or 3 hours?

There is some serious teutonic hotness from Team Germany's WAGS.

André Schürrle's is winner winner chicken dinner...

And it wasn't particularly close. I still LOL at ESPN's prediction that Brazil had a 65% chance of beating Germany. Talk about a team that was living off its name rather than results.

Germany, France and Belgium are going to be really, really good at the 2016 Euros if Belgium can find a competent coach. Not sure anyone else should even bother to show up.

A small note: Landon Donovan has said he is going to retire in a few months at the end of this MLS season.

For me the question of whether it was appropriate to leave Landon off the team was never much of a worry and I think the play on the field for many at least partially vindicated Klinsmann. For those who are still unsure, I think this retirement gives a pretty good indication of where he is both physically and mentally.
