So, if I looked this up right we haven't beaten Columbia since 2005. Is that right?

Smart Deandre. Smart.
That after we played a pretty good half after the eighth minute.

Im chuckling a little bit at James Rodriguez (a hundred million dollar player). He falls after no contact, trying to simulate a foul. In the fall (in which, again, there seemed to be no contact and was just him throwing himself to the ground) he seemed to manage to somewhat seriously injure his shoulder like he might have actually dislocated it. After working on him for some time on the sideline they were forced to sub him.
We'll see what is said after the game, but if he dislocated his shoulder simulating a foul that's super, super impressive.

And Klinsi blamed the game on the refs...you'd think he of all people would recognize a more talented team playing in second gear.

Maybe it's the travel wearing on them but Paraguay looks like a really unathletic team.

The first chance at a goal in over 10 minutes on a counter attack, point blank. How can you miss that shot? I just started watching in the second half. The US is exclusively on the defensive end of the field. They look sloppy and a lack of energy, other than that one drive.

This match is getting really physical. A lot of tackles with contact not being called.

We were down a man essentially the entire second half so you can't take much away from that.
Zardes is the latest iteration of the athletic but low skill American player so it's not exactly surprising that he blew that breakaway.
Really surprised by how bad Paraguay looked. It's depressing to switch back and forth between Euros and Copa games.

The one guy I was really impressed with was John Brooks. I'd never seen him before.

Brooks was shaky as a 20/21 year old be he really seems to be rounding into form which is great news for us.
The other pieces of great news is he's both young (23 I think) and experienced (played in lots of games in German first division in the last three years).
Lol and as I type this, Costa Rica takes the lead!!

Columbia is starting 10 different players than last match. It's like they don't really care much about the match, and more about testing their players and getting experience.

That didn't take long for Columbia to tie the game.

That might be true, but if Columbia loses this match we win the group.
That means playing Peru instead of Brazil in the first knock out match.

I was watching the US match in Spanish and then realized the game was on FS1. Started watching the match in the second half and only when I saw it was on FS1 did I know the US was down a player with 2 yellows by Yedlin in a row. That was really stupid and I'm glad he has to sit out the next match.
I was impressed with Guzan too. I'm used to watching Howard as goaltender.

Yes, Columbia just knocked a goal into their own net. I remember another time when a Columbia player did this and he was assassinated. But that was during the World Cup.

Brooks and Guzan were nails today. If Zardes had any touch, he'd be our best player. Yedlin's first foul wasn't a card, but we were CONCAF. The second was partly because he slipped and looked worse than it was, but it was a stupid decision by DY

Yes!! Costa Rico is in control. That was a really good goal. Columbia is in trouble. Looks good for the US playing Peru instead of Brazil. Still a lot of soccer to play though.

In soccer, Im not sure that means much though. How many times have they played in that span, 4?

I think the odds are the US plays Ecuador since they play Haiti. Not sure what happens if Brazil ties Peru. Ecuador could win the group and Brazil goes home. My guess is we play Ecuador and Peru goes home.

Weird road but if that's it I'll take it.
Brazil is gone. Peru won the group and Ecuador finished 2nd

Yeah they hadn't updated the group right after the game...that's amazing. Couldn't hold off Peru and Ecuador. GG Brazil!

Ecuador is going to be tough. Going to need our back line to be top notch. If Brooks once again is the man of the match, I like USA's chance!

Did Brazil even care about this tournament? Give they're hosting the Olys, I assume that's the one they want this summer, in spite of being a youth tournament.
Not clear to me that anyone other than Argentina, the US and Mexico want to be here.

Well the US won but about 1/2 the team is ineligible for the semi-final game due to fouls.

Unbelievable. Disappointed that jones had major mental lapse and is now unavailable in the semis. I thought he was the best player on the field until he threw that weak as punch.

Pretty sure the card reset after the group stage, other than Yedlin being on a red and out last night, right?

This victory didn’t come without a cost. Though the U.S. will have DeAndre Yedlin back from his red card for the semis, three other players will be forced out of action – Jones by virtue of his red, and midfielder Alejandro Bedoya and forward Bobby Wood (who was a whirling dervish at times in this match) as a result of netting their second yellow cards.

Gotcha. I don't like Bedoya anyway. Losing Wood is meh too. Jones is a huge blow though.
