From Dan Andrews, Premier of Victoria:
Peter Norman was a great Australian.

But he didn't get a hero's welcome when he returned home after the 1968 Olympics – despite winning a silver medal.

For his role in the Games' most famous civil rights protest, Peter was shunned.

His achievements weren't celebrated.

And he never represented Australia again.

We're trying to right some of those wrongs.

This week we unveiled a statue of Peter outside Lakeside Stadium.

We will honour his legacy.

As an athlete – and a humanitarian.
