"A key promise in Paris’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics was that its famous river, the Seine, would be cleaned up in time to host open water swimming events...swimming has been banned in the Seine for a century because the Paris sewer system is designed to dump wastewater into the river during heavy rain when the sewers get overwhelmed by stormwater."
"Paris officials took on a $1.5 billion USD infrastructure project that included a massive underground tank and tunnel system that could hold excess sewage during heavy rain to minimize contamination of the Seine. Paris officials will test water quality daily ahead of the Olympic games...but the likelihood of open water swimming taking place will also depend on weather and luck."
I’m sure we are juicing too. But our scientists also probably design the tests.

Several coaching from the Canadian Women's Olympic soccer team are suspended and sent home by the IOC for flying a drone over the New Zealand team's practices. What surprises me is that I'm first hearing of this type of infraction occurring over a women's Olympic soccer practice and not a higher stakes sports like a Premier League or SEC football practice.

If you don't have a cable or a streaming service like YouTube TV or Hulu Live Plus, subscribe to Peacock for the month. $8 for the month and you can watch all Olympic events on demand. Easy decision for me since I won't start Hulu Live Plus until the start of college football season.

I really think that France hit it out of the park with these opening ceremonies. Through constant rains, the athletes arrived by boat while the torch came over rooftops at times.
Of course they added some very Parisian touches such as the ménage a trios piece but it was all tastefully done

That opening ceremonies was awesome.
I especially the “liberte” section which was essential the history the French revolution to western liberal democracy, freedom of speech and expression within a 10 minute segment.
The gojira segment with the opera singer and pyrotechnics was especially bad ass.

Whether it’s “feast of the gods” from Bellini, or “the last supper from Di Vinci, what offends me most of this spectacle, is a French Olympics appropriating the best of Italian artists.

Watched women's volleyball today - good game!
But, it seems the fans that the TV keeps cutting to act more like they're at a rave than cheering for a sporting event...

Champ de Mars is pretty cool without a beach VB venue stuck in the middle of it.
It’s gotta be rad now.

I can’t get over white water canoeing being an Olympic sport. Where do those guys practice?
The venue will make for a fun water ride after its over

After an NBA career, he’s hanging on the beach … as an Olympian
PARIS — At some point on the Eiffel Tower center court, Chase Budinger should have looked up and soaked it all in.
He was making his debut in Olympic beach volleyball Monday afternoon, playing in a rowdy environment as competing reds, whites and blues filled the grandstands and the emblematic image of Paris towered in the background. Yet Budinger was too busy defending the net and setting up partner Miles Evans in their 2-0 win over France to truly appreciate this postcard come to life.
His basketball past might have taught Budinger to keep a calm facade, but he admitted feeling the “ultimate nerves” just like he did ahead of his NBA debut. However, after the stadium announcer introduced Budinger as the American player who was “making history,” he and Evans meshed perfectly together while breezing to the two-set win. Next match, Budinger knows, he should try to slow it down a little and relish in his dream.
“I felt like it went too fast,” Budinger said. “I felt like there were times when I should’ve enjoyed the view a little more, or maybe the timeouts could be a little longer for us so that we can enjoy it.”

Us Women’s Rugby’s Ilona Maher is taking Paris by storm.
7’s is the perfect format for her. She’s had some brilliant runs.
I’ve been called for a stiff arm like that. It was to the face, tho.

You guys watching any of the 3 on 3 bball. Pretty hectic pace and fun to watch. Only guy I know is Jimmer Fredette for the USA.
A lot of pick and rolls and they go 1’s and 2’s so you have to stay with your man on the perimeter

Both the men and women lost. Really seems like a sport that the US should dominate...
Waiting for the people who ragged on her when she had to bow out in Tokyo to apologize.

Been watching the replays in areas I am curious of. If I don’t like it after 10 minutes is so I switch to another discipline. I watch the nightly live show to catch up on all live rhings
