Groups announced for the Champions League
Poor Ajax, lucky Chelsea
Some news:
Liverpool signed Balotelli (!)
Rooney named Three Lions Capitan for England
Everton signed Eto'o
Manchester United accepted a bid from Aston Villa for Tom Cleverley..
ManU overtook Man City as most expensive squad in history.
Bayern Munich in talks w/ Real Madrid for Xabi Alonso, Xabi turned down Man Utd, quit Spanish national team
Fernando Torres to Ac Milan
Ronaldo says he's the best even if he's actually not (voted best player in Europe)
Manchester united signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid
Kim Jong Un supports Man Utd, games to be shown illegally on Korean TV.
Bayern signed Benatia from AS Roma
Jermaine Jones signed with New England Revolution, the MLS commissioner put Chicago and New Englands name in a hat to see who got him.
---
Manchester City or Chelsea will win the league. Their squads are just too good.

Good stuff NYCat.
Roma got boned worse than Ajax.
I think Eto'o is a sneaky signing for Everton.
Good riddance to Cleverly, a mediocre player without a position or a role. That makes only 5 more players they have to get rid of before Monday.
Was hoping ManU would sign Benatia ... They need at least one more solid central defender (Jonny Evans? Phil Jones? Please ...), and that's the hardest position to shop for in the transfer window. Don't see Vidal coming, maybe Daley Blind, and if he proves healthy I can see Kevin Strootman coming in the Winter window.
I think Chelsea wins the EPL. Man City 2nd, Arsenal 3rd, and ManU pipping Liverpool, Everton & Tottenham for 4th. Burnley, Leicester and Crystal Palace get relegated.
Arsenal's desperate to add a striker with Giroud out until 2015. Rumors have them linked up with everyone from Falcao to Edinson Cavani to Loic Remy to Danny Welbeck to Nikola Zigic. Chelsea need to replace Torres too if he's sold with Costa out a month and Drogba nursing an ankle injury.
Should be an interesting Monday.

This has me rethinking my allegiances. He probably likes the Lakers, Cowboys, and would like the Yankees except for the imperialist name ...

3 games into the season and ManU is already out of the race for the Premiership.

Real Madrid stopped caring about defense once they scored. Waive bye-bye to Ancelotti and Bale, and someone with $$$ will make a run at CR7 too.

The smart thing to do is probably sell CR7 (particularly if someone comes with a 100M Euro offer for the 30 year old) and see if you can keep the other two guys.

I would agree somewhat about Ancelotti, but the RM brass aren't known for their patience. I also think Bale is a declining asset.

If they think Bale just isn't a good fit for whatever reason then the team has to do what they have to do. To me Carlo seems like a very good coach and pretty good fit at RM so I personally would give him more time but, as you mentioned, these teams aren't know for being patient probably much to their own detriment.

You'll get to find out some interesting things about Real Madrid, like "Are the people running my team rational actors?"

So he wins the European Championship in his first year and you fire him after his second to what end, to bring in Rafa?
It really seems like running these high level teams drives people insane.

Group D of Champions' League is fantastic. Juventus, Manchester City and Sevilla are all very good teams, and the fourth place "minnow" team is a German team?
Damn!

At first I heard it was 40M Euros plus Navas for De Gea and I said 'Damn, ManU actually got over on a transfer!'
Then I heard it was 25M Euros plus Navas for De Gea and I said 'Well, decent enough I guess.'
Then I heard ManU didn't get their paperwork in on time scuttling the transfer and I said 'There's the ManU transfer action I've come to expect!'

At the 21' Barca might think about subbing Busquets at the half. Poor form and early yellow is a bad combo for your DM.

For large portions of the game, I thought Liverpool actually outplayed Barca. Had more ball, Barca on their heels a bit, uncharacteristically missing passes.
And then, there was the GOAT. Simply spectacular.

I’ve never seen a Barca team, in a big match, not even pretend to be professionals.
Forget winning.
Forget playing well.
Forget putting in a professional performance.
They couldn’t even bother to pretend like they were professionals.

I'm watching the Liverpool vs Burussia Dortmund match played at Notre Dame University in South Bend. When did the big leagues start playing preseason games in the US? Anyway something has happened I never thought in my wildest dreams. I am really enjoying watching soccer. The more I watch the more I understand. I would say it is right there with baseball and is one of my top 3 favorite sports along with baseball and college basketball (and that isn't as fun now that it is more of a feeder league).

One early Sunday morning a while back I was bored and decided to watch a Premier league match.
I've been hooked ever since...

Pulisic having a really good preseason game for Chelsea. He may start for Chelsea when the season starts.
Unfortunately he was garbage in his 35 minutes in their first real game. That team might be mess this year.

Christian Pulisic is the second player to reach 5 goals and 5 assists this season in the Premier League. All 5 goals have come in the last 3 matches. The first one he pulled off a hat trick. He's becoming more aggressive and his dribbling skills have improved. He is only 21 years old, so just how good is he going to get. Some more news...Pulisic won't be playing for the USMNT in the upcoming matches. As for Chelsea, they are 3rd place in the Premier League with Liverpool pulling away.

We’ve seen it a lot over the last threeish years or so to varying degrees.
I’m a Barca fan and can say they deserved what they got.
Barca’s fall was almost complete; but instead of completing the debasement so we could bottom and start rebuilding, they use a Covid loophole to force Messi to come back and play for them for another year.
I really hope the board comes to it’s senses, accepts a $100M (or whatever it ends up being) offer from City and lets the Goat leave if he really wants.
