Re: Washington
When do the rumors start swirling about Romar?
He's missed the tourney 4 straight years. His team totally collapsed this year. He had a recruiting class in 2012 where he whiffed and didn't bring in any freshmen. He's had guys transfer to St. Mary's, Montana, and D-II Kentucky Wesleyan. And he had another freshman just up and quit playing basketball before ever stepping onto Washington's campus.
And then there's Robert Upshaw...
With NWG now transferring, and a top-15 class coming in, next year they will lack leadership and veteran stability, but shouldn't lack for talent on paper. How much time does Romar have to mold them into a winner? Will another .500 season and a half decade of no tourneys seal the deal and get Romar fired? Personally, I think they should give the man a lifetime contract, because they are not going to do better, but that's just me...

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Romar is fighting an uphill battle. Once the kids arrive on campus and realize they don't get paid or get any free handouts, they leave because Romar won't let any of that shit fly. Once the time is right, the truth will set us free.

Re: Washington
Uw will be interesting. Losing 3 of their top 4 players in nwg, Upshaw and Kemp. But return every other contributor and add a top 15 class with 5 4 star recruits. It might be their best class under Romar.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

UW has veered towards a dumpster fire recently. I'm interested to see if Romar can reverse the momentum, because they've nosedived lately.
Re: Washington
Wow. All that talent (mostly frontcourt) coming in, and the point guard bolts. He considered Harvard. Maybe he ends up there, and gets a better diploma.
Right where I want to be.

Romar should take at least a sabbatical. The players are getting out of control in that program.

SEATTLE -- Washington leading scorer Nigel Williams-Goss and two others have been granted their release and will transfer from the Huskies' program.
Washington announced that Williams-Goss, sophomore guard Dustin Johnson and junior center Gilles Dierickx, planned to leave the school on Friday. Reports first surfaced Thursday that Williams-Goss -- a sophomore -- would leave Washington, but the school said he was still evaluating options.
The loss of the three players leaves Washington with just four scholarship players headed into next season, although the Huskies have a highly regarded recruiting class set to arrive next fall. But the departure of Williams-Goss is a big blow.
The former McDonald's all-American coming out of high school, led Washington averaging 15.6 points last season after averaging 13.4 points as a freshman. Williams-Goss was a second-team all-Pac-12 selection this past season.

Wow. A Dumpster fire indeed. And just four years ago they ran the show. I remember UA getting blasted by them 85-68 in January of 2011 and thinking we had several more years of work to do to reach their recent level of success.

Not sure where to put this, but Upshaw has some kind of heart condition which has stopped him from doing any more NBA team workouts.

Re: Washington
Yikes, what is going on in Washington? 13 players in the league over the last 9 years, several of whom are/were high quality players. Their 10 players drafted since 2005 is 11th most in the nation, and they are tied for 8th with the most current players in the league. For a while they were looking pretty damn good.
In case anyone was wondering, we rank 8th for guys drafted since 2005, impressive when you think of what our program went through in the end of Lute's days. Our 13 current players in the league ranks 6th. Pac 12 also has the highest percentage of nba players per conference team, just ahead of the ACC, kind of cool.

Re: Washington
OK, I know schools hire coaches to win games, yadda, yadda, yadda.
But try for a moment to remember what exactly is the fundamental purpose of a University?
Personally, I always thought it was to prepare a student for his/her future career, what ever the chosen career is. Isn't that right?
So in what universe is getting high numbers of students into good, lucrative, satisfying jobs a sign of 'the worst coach in all of college basketball'?
This is just ridiculous, in my opinion.
Kids want to play for coaches that are going to help get them into the NBA. Romar is doing exactly that, in high numbers.
Seems to me that Romar is one of the best at satisfying the fundamental purpose of a University.
Having said that, I wouldn't trade Coach Miller for anything.

Lo Romar is a first class coach and man. Herd has to be a moron to make this mis-judgement.
Ditto, Crainium, on Coach. I wouldn't trade Sean Miller for anyone in the country.
