Sorry about the wrong nickname. Capt O is right they are the lopes. People don't know who they are but since you do that is all that matters to Arizona fans.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Richard Pitino (UNM) deserves a hard look for each of those top jobs.

Let’s call them Jackalopes as a compromise.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Cronin seems to be candidate #2 on the list after Drew and they think they can get the buyout reduced based on the terms of the contract changing. He would probably be candidate #1, though he would still be a longshot to leave, if the buyout wasn't there. Hopefully Mick is leveraging it for more NIL funds. Mick moved his ex wife and daughter to LA. She is a senior this year so timing is probably not the best to move back across the country. Maybe next season if Mick wants to move closer to the ponies and feels like Los Alamitos and Del Mar aren't cutting it anymore.TheCat wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 9:30 am That buyout has eliminated most teams from even considering him including Louisville. You can get the highest level coach for 2 years for that kind of money. I'm happy you are stuck with him for at least 2 more years and by then you will probably be willing to wave the buyout. Unlike others I think you will be in the top tier of your new conference. Top 4 or 5.
Here is some light reading. You can take it for what it is worth.

Why would you go to Stanford? I get they're going to the ACC, but its...Stanford...
Re: Coaching Carousel
Its Stanford all right.........but thats better than being in the MWC!Fishclamps wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 9:02 am Why would you go to Stanford? I get they're going to the ACC, but its...Stanford...
Kyle Smith to Stanford was not unexpected by the way.........in fact it had already been widely reported that he was their pick some time ago.
Re: Coaching Carousel
He coached at San Francisco I think so he has ties to the Bay Area. He will do great things at Furd.
Feel bad for WAZZU though. Just get some excitement back in their program and now they lose their conference. Their coach and soon their players

What’s with the Ville? Can’t seem to get a guy or do they have a guy and he is still coaching in the tournament?

Re: Coaching Carousel
Maybe Sampson????? Who knows but some think it might be Cronin. If they don't hurry they might have to pay that buyout to get him. Can you imagine that guy costing you $16M in buyout. Louisville has lost it's mind.

Cronin isn't going anywhere. His buyout is too expensive. Also...Cronin? Really?
And I can't see why Sampson would leave a school he's about to lead to back to back FFs.

Stanford had some great seasons under Montgomery. He was the Dean of PAC basketball for a few years.Fishclamps wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 9:02 am Why would you go to Stanford? I get they're going to the ACC, but its...Stanford...
Besides, he coached in the Bay Area, and Palo Alto is really nice. The Palouse, well, is the Palouse. If you are looking for culture and diversity, that ain't it.
Re: Coaching Carousel
If you look at some of the coaches WSU has had it is remarkable. Kelvin Sampson, Tony Bennett, their current coach that is leaving. Same with some of their football coaches.Merkin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:27 pmStanford had some great seasons under Montgomery. Is SMU actually a better job than USC?
If so, USC is much, much lower in the hoops pecking order than I realized.

Big Ten school in the Los Angeles market. That should put it, at a minimum, equal to something like Ohio St hoops. SMU's old-money Dallas, and they've been coming on of late in football, but it's still the AAC. Don't know if it's about ducking the competition in the Big Ten, or if it might be jump before you're pushed.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:48 am Is SMU actually a better job than USC?

Re: Coaching Carousel
Enfield is not a very good coach, imo. It feels increasingly obvious, particularly after the season they just had. He basically got the USC job on the strength of a single S16 run in 2013 at FGCU. USC rolled the dice, and it hasn't paid off all that well. Enfield's getting good players, but he's not doing much with them.TheCatInTheHat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:30 pmBig Ten school in the Los Angeles market. USC should fire him and hire Pasternack.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Gonna be an interesting season in Lexington. Stay tuned.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Louisville deserves whatever over the hill coach they hire. A pathetic job search thus far.

I’m hearing Sean miller to usc.
I can smell the sanctions already

Re: Coaching Carousel
I still have no idea why ANY school would want Andy, but he'd just get killed in the Big 10 so better to move now.
I'm not sure I can see Sean moving again. Leaving was hard enough the first time.

Agreed……crazy to be hot after underperforming Andy. Did so little with so much…….smh
Re: Coaching Carousel
my impression of enfield is that he's horrible with Xs + Os but is a good administrator who delegates well and is a good relationship manager with the AD, school, alums. which sounds very usc basketball.
they should hire romar!

Sorta surprised that Josh Pastner hasn't got another job this year - may be too soon since his dismissal from Georgia Tech. He will most likely have another shot somewhere down the road.

Re: Coaching Carousel
Maybe as an assistant. Pastner's teams as HC have gotten progressively worse. In his 7 years at GT his only NCAA tourney appearance was in the Covid year and lost in the first round.
Also perhaps he doesn't want to coach. I recall very well when John Madden was fired and became a broadcaster. He said he would never coach again. Working 60-80 hours per week at an extremely stressful job over a 20 hour workweek with no stress?

Re: Coaching Carousel
Talk about failing upwards. What has Enfield done at USC to warrant a higher salary in a better conference? Is SMU impressed that he got Bronny to come there? Enfield got the Mobley brothers to come there, and he also got Isaiah Collier. But historically, USC has done pretty well bringing in high-level talent. That is, this is not an Andy Enfield thing. Bibby, Floyd, O'Neill...they all did pretty well.
Also, I can't believe Enfield was at USC for 10 seasons! Doesn't feel that long.
