No one saying he will be all-conference, but he did score 26 points against Utah, with 8/9 2PT, 3/5 3PT, 10 boards, 3 assists, 1 TO.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:52 amThis guy would get absolutely steamrolled and humiliated by actual competition.
However, Ballo-esque at the FT line, 1-3, although he was 9-9 FT v. SMU.
Ballo scored 17 and 10 v. Utah.

The transfer portal has turned the offseason into a Hold 'Em game without the Turn and River. It's just Flop, Flop, Flop.

If you are looking for a good PF, Eric Dailey is a hell of a player. Transferring from Okie State.

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
My quick scouting report on Townsend:
Watched the Horizon title game and NCST game and here are some takeaways.
I can see him functioning in a Zu-type role. Punishing guys in the paint, sealing and duck ins in transition, though and physical around the rim.
Im not sure if I saw him make a field goal where he wasnt driving, or smashing through someone, to get to his left shoulder and baby hook with the right. If hes driving left, hes coming back to his left shoulder to finish right. If hes driving right, hes going into you to create for that left shoulder baby hook.
Not much skill, a bit out of control off the dribble. Most of his touches were from cross screens, duck ins, seals, pinch post.
Actually think hes a pretty good passer. Good vision, can get off the ball if he sees a passing lane.
Not going to be a threat from three, and while his jumper starts from the wrong side of his body, its not bad.
Competes as a defender when he can. Will slide his feet, but hes definitely not Keshad.
Hes physical, going to compete, tough around the rim, but is predictable. Hes a poor mans Zu. Smaller, but tough, solid passer, wants to finish everything at the rim, but hes a better defender.
Overall, he would be fine, but I would be keeping an eye on who else is out there. Hes solid, not going to wow you, will struggle against length and athleticism, but you know what youre getting every night.
I'd prefer a more dynamic 4 man. Ultimately, if Love returns, that also reshapes our needs. The 4 man doesn't need to be a top scorer in that case. If not, I'm not sure any of these guys are giving us what we hoped would be in the portal

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
The transfer portal has created the era of universal, ongoing free agency. Players used to get recruited once. Maybe twice. Now they basically have the chance to “re-open” their recruitment throughout their college careers. It’s great for the student-athletes, maybe not so great for building roster continuity and team chemistry.

Mason Gillis from Purdue?
Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
Townsend dropped 38 and 11, 17 and 12, and 30 and 13 in his last 3 games. Which were his conference tourney title game, and the 1st round and 2nd round of the tourney.

The team that is going to make a ton of noise in the Portal is Indiana. Lining up a bunch of good PAC players along with others.

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
Don't know anything, but listed at 6'6" 220 with 37.5% 3PT I would strongly suspect he is looking for a spot on a team as a wing to improve his pro chances. Take Larsson's spot. Then move to the 4 for small ball.
Seems like a no-brainer to me to get the kid from Oakland, it will be his 5th year and Cats could use some senior leadership, but Cats will still need another big strong 4 like Keshad. Johnson is listed at 1" taller and 5 pounds heavier, but he just plays so much bigger, like Michael Wright.

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
Townsend is definitely a PF. Weird player. He scores almost all of his points in the paint. And is a bully with a post game. Draws a lot of fouls. Is a good passer. Teams don't guard him as a shooter cause he hardly ever takes any. Hard to tell if he is any good on defense cause they play zone more than any team in the country but can definitely rebound. But also had the same TS% as Kylan did last year so he was pretty inefficient.Merkin wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:11 pm Don't know anything, but listed at 6'6" 220 with 37.5% 3PT I would strongly suspect he is looking for a spot on a team as a wing to improve his pro chances. I don't personally think they need to add a PF cause Carter Bryant can play it. Dude is big, definitely bigger than Keshad, in both length and weight.
I'm kinda against it because the spacing would be bad, he was pretty inefficient, and I can't really tell if he is any good on defense.

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
I think Townsend would bring experience/maturity that next year’s roster presently lacks, and he’d add roster depth at forward.
But I’m expecting Tommy to make a bigger splash in the portal market.

Good article here on those transferring out during the Lloyd era. Very similar to the Lute era, where some thrived elsewhere (e.g. Ruben Douglas) while many just disappeared to the end of the bench at new spots.

Re: Transfer Palooza Thread
Why wasn't he a starter, only started 4 games last season and 21 over 4 years?
100 for 201 3PT attempts. That's Steve Kerr good. The 3PT line has been moved out twice since Kerr's record setting season.

NIL and the transfer portal have made a system of hired mercenaries with no pretense at all of being students.

Actually now better than the G League. Top line guys get a very decent payday and guys that won’t sniff even the G league getting low 7 figures.

College football is big business. I see that Mizzo is going to spend $250 million to renovate their stadium. What's a million dollars for a player when you got that kind of money to spend

We all did, Irish. But even when I was there (late 90s/early 00s), college hoops had already started its transformation into a de facto minor league for the NBA (or pro leagues internationally). Now it's much better, imo, because players are able to capitalize on their college success, as opposed to being restricted by stupid NCAA amateurism rules.
I'd love it if more guys actually wanted to learn and get that degree, but I'm also very supportive of these guys getting paid.

It wasn't until 1991 that Lute had a player leave who still has eligibility left, and that was BDub/Bison Dele who was a transfer anyway.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 10:26 am We all did, Irish. I think Krzyzewski had an even longer streak but can't recall the first player to leave early.
Although UA had other players leave early before Lute, Eric Money and Coniel Norman come to mind although they were before my time.
