Very good passing, especially w/ the high-low. Bustin that 2-3 zone right now.Main Event wrote:Cal looks good so far
Didn't that used to be a Tucson place to get some music or videos in a crappy little store with bad customer service?SCCat wrote:Real nice win from Cal and USC is in mid season form, losing by 20 to the Zips
Whoever it is it would not surprise me to find out that they could field a basketball team that could beat USC...PieceOfMeat wrote:Didn't that used to be a Tucson place to get some music or videos in a crappy little store with bad customer service?SCCat wrote:Real nice win from Cal and USC is in mid season form, losing by 20 to the Zips
Who know they had a basketball team.
That would be "Mr. Zips" to you. When they opened they sold albums (real albums) 3 for $10 and I thought the service was great. Great time to be a collector. Don't know what happened later on.PieceOfMeat wrote:Didn't that used to be a Tucson place to get some music or videos in a crappy little store with bad customer service?SCCat wrote:Real nice win from Cal and USC is in mid season form, losing by 20 to the Zips

"Al Bum's" was always a better store IMHO though.
Hmm, it was Mr. Zips? When I googled it, I did find a listing for Zips http://www.yelp.com/biz/zips-music-and-video-tucsonRichardCranium wrote:That would be "Mr. Zips" to you. No, I'm definitely thinking of the one in Tucsongumby wrote:Zips was in Tempe. Bought a lot of music there. Sunday ritual. Go to Zips and Tower Records, where they had the Sunday Arizona Daily Star. Then listen to tunes and read about the Cats.

There were two record stores on University Blvd in Tucson in the late 80s early 90s that I remember, and one of them was called Zip's Music also known as Zip's Records Tapes, not Mr. Zips. It carried new stuff. Al Bums had used stuff, but mostly a lame selection. If you wanted to go to a used record store, you went to PDQ. PDQ was high priced, but had an awesome selection.PieceOfMeat wrote:Hmm, it was Mr. Zips? They have been our wannabes for a long time. Although we'll see how long that lasts post Fisher. I still can't believe we haven't heard lower tier Pac 12 schools use the patented Bill Self negative recruiting tactic that he is dying.Chicat wrote:I feel like SDSU is our doppelgänger.
It won't. They were almost sent to the Big West a few years ago. Get into a P5 conference and we'll see.The Goat wrote:Although we'll see how long that lasts post Fisher.Chicat wrote:I feel like SDSU is our doppelgänger.
Well we crushed their souls, do you expect them to be hyped? They probably had our game circled for months saying this is "the game" for them. We let them know they aren't as good as they thought they were.ASUHATER! wrote:Purdue is crushing Missouri 31-11.....

Doing a bit of research on it, Zip's Music was located at 946 East University Boulevard. Grandma Tony's was located above it. I miss that place, especially all the cute waitresses.
The store in Tempe you are thinking of is Zia Record Exchange, not Zips. They have two stores in Tucson, one on Oracle and one on Speedway. The four stores is the Phoenix have much more inventory than the Tucson stores.
