Is he going to pull an Alford and hold off on signing it?

Don't those immediately precede getting fired?

My early wish list:

Shaka Smart
Gregg Marshall
Jay Wright
Larry Krystkowiak
Archie Miller
So is Barnes safe?

Signing contract extensions then leaving shortly thereafter is part of the game.
Signed,

Miller had extended with Xavier in April of 2008 until April 2018. In April of 2009 he was announced as the next Arizona coach.

Jon Rothstein was on the Tim Brando show and said that Lavin hadnt gotten an extension yet and it was very much up in the air. Also said that ASU met with Hurley, a former NBA coach, and 2 other sitting head coaches yesterday.

I bet next year is Archie's last at Dayton. He's made for a bigger program.

If I was Memphis, I'd fire Pastner next year if he can't make it work and hire Archie.

Looks like Tennessee may come open again depending on the penalties against Tyndall according to Seth Davis. Penalties coming out in the next 24 hours.

Listening to Rothstein talk is akin to fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

$2.7M ASU dollars may say he needs a break before getting back the grind of college basketball recruiting.

I agree. Utah State has incredible fan support.

Fire up the flight tracker.

Big conference school with zero expectations but a really solid fan/booster base in a fertile recruiting area.

There are a lot worse jobs out there. All anyone would expect from him would be to not be fired for cheating.

I think they would be very smart to go after Archie. Pastner not so much but he will try hard for that job I imagine, he is on the hot seat it seems and looking for a way out before he gets canned. But I agree, Archie could kill it at a place like Texas.

Archie to Texas would be very interesting. I wonder if Texas (Patterson) has the foresight to try a move like that.

And Lavin at ASU would also be very interesting.

This will be an interesting hire, to say the least. It's been so long since Texas has had a basketball opening it is probably tough to say how much the boosters at UT are invested in basketball. There seems to be a slow-tide turning for traditional football schools to want to compete in basketball, so perhaps they could pony up huge.

Additionally I still don't think many top basketball coaches with options want to go to a football dominated school. Archie could ready for the jump now, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion at all. Sean barely left X for a traditional basketball power, so Archie could hold out for Crean to eventually get fired or perhaps another basketball-first opening to come about.

More than likely they don't get the "home-run" hire, but that doesn't mean they won't come away with a great coach.

I think a guy like Chris Mack would be really good for this job and a realistic option.
