Supplanting? SEC has been ahead of the Pac for a while. The Pac is seemingly getting NCAA bids these days "for old time's sake." Who besides UW really deserved to be in the tourney this year? Oregon went 10-8 (13 reg season losses) in a terrible Pac, and ASU was 23-11 overall. In better times for our league, these numbers wouldn't be so bad. But the Pac was embarrassing this year.

The ACC, SEC, and Big 10 are the top 3 right now. Big 12 is probably next. The WCC is arguably as good as the Pac at the moment. The Mountain West is not too far off from the Pac either.

Musselman possibly going to Arkansas is just a sign of the times.

Chris Mullin stepping down at St. John’s.

Bobby Hurley chomping at the bit to take the job and leave ASSU high and dry.

He’s a good fit and the timing for him will never be better. St.Johns is clearly a better and more prestigious program. He has nothing coming into his current program. If St. Johns really wants him, it is hard to imagine he turns it down unless his family prefers to stay out west.

I know we don't like Hansen around here but he had a piece today about coaching hires. When was the last time a final four coach was hired away from a program?

He wouldn't count Harrick on his list because he got fired.

The pot shots at UCLA are getting old. That coaching search was humiliating like none other I've seen for a while. If that didn't make it abundantly clear that UCLA is a former elite program, not a current one, I'm not sure what will.

In spite of all that, they made a decent hire, and everyone in Westwood seems happy. Now the hard part begins.

10 years? What is Nevada's expectations for its program? Indefinite mediocrity?

Agree. Hurley has built up some capital the last two years. Next year the program is gonna take a step back unless the get some impactful transfers. St. John’s needs to sweeten the offer.

Ideally he probably does. He has to know the program’s limitations, and the step back it is about to take. But he appears to be holding out for something better than St. Johns, possibly because his brother has one of the best head coaching gigs in the country. His family also might be happy and adjusted in the Phoenix area, which could be another reason he is holding out — meaning he will only uproot them for something grander. Still, it is a gamble because if asu returns to mediocrity, his stock will drop. St. Johns is the better program, so his rejection of the job remains curious.

Beilein flirted with the Pistons job last year, so it seems he's had his ears open to pitches from NBA GMs lately.

It's not surprising. Beilein has been killing it at UM and is now going to get paid like he never has before. Good for him.

Not sure who Michigan turns to. Maybe promote a long-time assistant, try to keep that Beilein mojo going. I'd be a little surprised if they can snag a big name coach already employed somewhere else.

Along with speculating who Michigan targets for Beilein's replacement, anyone mind guessing why Beilein left in the first place?

Is it as simple as doing what Izzo wouldn't do ten or so years ago and take up Dan Gilbert's offer for higher profile NBA work?
