For those who were crowning asu the class of the conference not too long ago for this season....NOT so fast my friend /Lee Corso

Beating the gerbils is starting to be less and less of a good win.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

At this point point there are no good wins left to be had on our schedule. We may play like 1 game against a ranked team the rest of the season.U.P. Zona Fan wrote:Beating the gerbils is starting to be less and less of a good win.

I will give ASU credit too. Two years in a row it appears they have a program building, momentum building, epic win against Kansas that they turn into dog crap. Its pretty impressive and I think Hurley is doing an Excellent job. He builds ASU fans hopes up so high, only to let them get kicked right in the nuts immediately. Literally right away, washing any momentum so fast. It really is impressiveCaptain Obvious wrote:I'll give ASU credit though. Huge win over a number one ranked team and have beat Kansas two years straight. Like it or not they're clearly the best team in the Pac and I don't see the Cats beating them this year. Excellent job by Coach Hurley and ASU.AZCatGirl wrote:I really fucking hate ASU.
Oh, and next years recruiting class is dog crap too and if they lose Dort this year, they will probably go right back to where they belong..being irrelevant. Shit, they managed to do that this year in like a 10 day period of time.
Could be wrong and always find it better to let seasons play out a bit with programs like ASU

Re: ASU blows
Utah is like 145 in the NET. 96 points is a lot, if we give up 96 points to the 145th best team, we will probably lose that game. But I don't think they are scoring 96 on us.

I mean two weeks ago people were trying to make the argument that Bobby Hurley was a better coach then Sean Miller...now today I could see a scenario where they end up with a losing record in the PAC 12, and Dort leaves for the NBA coupled with their weak incoming recruiting class, means their team could be worse next year and they might want to think of moving on from Bobby Hurley as it will be Year 4 and has not had a winning record in the PAC 12 yet.
I dont think that happens but just crazy to see the swing in such a short period of time. If they struggle the rest of the year its definitely not unheard of for him to be on the hot seat next year where as 2 weeks ago he could have gotten a lifetime contract with ASU.
That''s why people who make sweeping statements mid-season aka ASU is light years ahead of U of A are dumb as so many peaks and valleys in college basketball each year.
I mean its still possible Miller gets us to the tourney and say we made it to a sweet 16 this year after an upset or two. Its not unheard of and then Miller would look like an amazing coach. Shit that 2009 team made a Sweet 16 when around this time it felt like there was zero chance they would make the tourney.

Some positives Hurley has brought to ASU would include -
Better recruits and players
Much tougher schedule
More entertaining style of play compared to Herb and Rob
Fans at wells has increased as has enthusiasm
He is still a relatively young coach only coaching in his 6th year I believe.
So, yes, tonight was frustrating as was the Princeton game, but the positives to me far outweigh the negatives. I dont think Hurley is set in his ways either. He is still young and will continue to make mistakes but its my position he will grow as a coach. I could be wrong, but thats how I see it.
https://247sports.com/college/arizona-s ... 127301070/" target="_blank
Of all people CBH knows that from his days at Duke. His dad always taught Defense first. I think this is a 5-7 year project before we finally get even with the rats in recruiting.
There's no fanbase more delusional and entertaining than the ones up north. You can read the posts from their fans and substitute Rob Evans and Herb Sendek and the narrative doesn't change.
The fact is, ASU has a few athletic players in the post and a freshman guard shooting 24% over his last 5 games. Their team doesn't shoot it well. They'll get back on track and be competitive in the conference -- heck, they might even finish higher than Arizona this year.
The reality is that a tsunami is coming. The tide is retreating and ASU fans are still setting up their beach umbrellas thinking it's going to be a glorious day now that they've caught Arizona. But the wave that is cresting far out at sea is Arizona's 2019 recruiting class and beyond.

Look, asu will probably get the Cats in Tempe (HURLeys first win against UofA) and challenge in Tucson, but like I said before, I'm not too concerned about the Devil's with him as a coach. But I'm glad he's gotten their hopes up, mainly thanks to Kansas 2 years running.

They probably will but honestly beating us this year is nothing special. And if we do beat them, it will be very sweet.cats101 wrote:Look, asu will probably get the Cats in Tempe (HURLeys first win against UofA) and challenge in Tucson, but like I said before, I'm not too concerned about the Devil's with him as a coach. But more importantly, when we do play them, the game will be totally irrelevant as it usually is because their team is nothing special at all.
Like Arizona football, I think ASU Basketball is basically a dead end job that offers little hope for long term consistent success. I will give credit for ASU finally breaking away and not hiring a retread but getting a young up and coming coach. Those type of coaches at least bring more hope/hype. Saw it with Stoops as he actually drew good crowds because there is the sense of "Maybe this guy is the next Saban or Coach K". With Rob Evans, or Herb Sendek, or John Mackovic, or Rich Rod, or Kevin Sumlin pretty clear quickly none of those coaches are the next great coach.

Re: ASU blows
So is it better conference rankings wise, if asu gets beat a lot, making all teams look better since asu has the good ooc win, or if they lose relatively few games. Or does losing a lot just make them look bed. This is a serious question for a guy that knows more about the net rankings than I do.
And does the good of a road win equal the bad of a home loss to the same team?
Also is there anywhere where they describe the logic of the NET and the weight they put an the different measures that go into it.

Better if asu wins against a te.lile CAL considering they had the best ooc season in the conference. But it's asu so I hope they lose every game. I didn't expect this terrible CAL team to hold the lead.
