i was walking by myself in Vegas, and a group of girls started chanting ASU ASU. Then one asked me the result of the tournament. I told them how U of A and ASU did. "oh well ASU is better than U of A anyway!" and they continued chanting. This is pretty much the mentality of their fanbase.
lol that's a perfect example. They have no idea how their team is doing or anything about the sport, get told they suck and we're really good and they just say they are better anyway.
They weren't being belligerent, just sort of playful, confused and probably pay enough attention to ASU sports to know when to make little jokes. Sure a they have a lot of fork douchebags, but majority are just extremely casual and have only a passing knowledge of things.

They obviously weren't all that clever with their retort, but the most important question is....were they hot??? ;-)

Also, your observations clearly show that ASU fanbase doesn't deserve a good basketball program....they are very lucky to have their 2 huge upsets (ughhhhh, hurts as bad as getting kicked in the nuts!) over us the past two years.

This might end up being a banner-adding year for ASU.

They beat the defending (until last Sunday, I suppose) NCAA champions, and maybe the 2015 NCAA champions, all in one season???

Sucks they choked to lowly SC in Vegas last week. Otherwise it's only one more fairly attainable W. It's too much to ask this load of loser for two more. :geek:

I didn't fact check that, but it is fitting for ASU basketball that an NIT berth would trigger an automatic contract extension. The beautiful part is you don't even have to make this stuff up.

Sitting at 18 wins now, needs 2 in the NIT:

http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/c ... /20618069/

-An additional year will be added to Sendek's contract if ASU wins 20 games or appears in at least one NCAA Tournament game over the remaining years of the contract (2014-15 or 2015-16) or in any extension year added to the contract (2016-17 or 2017-18).

-Two additional years will be added to Sendek's contract if ASU wins 25 games or appears in at least three NCAA Tournament games in any of the remaining years of the contract or in any extension years of the contract .

Looks like he will be back eating at the food court soon. Going to be sad to see Herbie go, he has 4 starters coming back next year

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... erson-meet. Uh Oh.....doesn't look good for Herbie:

Arizona State coach Herb Sendek is expected to learn if he will be relieved of his duties at a Tuesday morning meeting with athletic director Ray Anderson, multiple sources told ESPN Monday night.

Ron Chenoy/USA TODAY Sports:

Arizona State coach Herb Sendek is expected to learn if he will be relieved of his duties at a Tuesday morning meeting, sources said.
A number of industry sources told ESPN that staff members have already leaked that they expect Sendek to be fired. But ESPN was unable to confirm that late Monday and calls and text messages to Sendek weren't returned.

Sendek has been with the Sun Devils for nine seasons and gone to the NCAA tournament in 2009 and '14. The Sun Devils have beaten rival Arizona the past two seasons in Tempe. ASU was 18-16 overall this season, 9-9 in the Pac-12 and lost at Richmond in overtime in the second round of the NIT after winning at UConn.

If the Sun Devils move on Sendek, a number of names have already emerged as possible candidates, including Memphis coach Josh Pastner and UC Irvine's Russell Turner.

Sendek's contract was extended by one year to June 30, 2017 by the board of regents earlier in the season.

I think this is bullshit. He coached up a team that lost its top-3 scorers from last year to an NIT birth and competitive Pac-12 campaign. He deserved better. He responsible for two of the best seasons inthe program's recent history, and the notoriety of maybe a future NBA MVP in Harden. He also has a good number of wins over Arizona.

Just foolishness.

Especially in this budget crisis.

I can't remember if I said it here, or on social media, but when somebody posted that pic of Herb eating in the food court, I said how sad that looked and he had the look of a coach who knew his days there were limited. Like he knew that was his job.

Completely stupid. I hope they swing-and-miss with whoever they bring in. He did a great job this year and continues to win against a rival who is dominating college basketball. I don't see how Pastner would leave Memphis AND that money for the ASU job. And a rival from his playing days to boot? Just not seeing it at all. Or he's dimented and sees that as a way to shove it in our face for him not being the coach here?

Per Evan Daniels
On Monday, Arizona State relieved Herb Sendek of his head coaching duties.
And it didn’t take long for a leader for the job to emerge.

According to a high placed source, Duke assistant Jeff Capelhas been contacted by Arizona State and is the guy they have targeted.

Capel has been an assistant at Duke the past four seasons.

Prior to Duke, Capel served as the head coach at Oklahoma and VCU. During his nine seasons as a head coach, Capel has a record of 175-110. His best season was an Elite Eight run in 2008-09.

You do realize that this is ASU we are talking about, right? The school that fired Ned Wulk in 1982 after a bad season. ASU had finished 2nd in the PAC the 2 previous seasons (15-3, 16-2 in the PAC) - ASU's 2nd and 3rd in the conference.

Those teams had rosters that even many later UA teams would have drooled over: Fat Lever, Byron Scott, Kurt Nimphius, Alton Lister, Sam Williams, Paul Williams, Johnny Nash. They were loaded.

Not saying it's surprising. Just it's unwarranted and a stupid move.

As much as I've made fun of ASU, Sendeck did a hell of a job at a school without a fanbase, zero booster support, and who is tiny Tim type of little brother to Arizona.

They aren't a sleeping giant. Sendeck did a great job for them.

It's certainly a worse job than it was when Herb took it in 2006. Herb is a clear demonstration of what that program can do to a promising coaching career. And back then, it was just the Bruins, and in Arizona there was hope that the gap could close. Now Arizona and SDSU both loom long-term in addition to UCLA, which recruits well even in the Alford era.
