Or "look, you're only collaterally important to our winning, so we'll see how long you have to act sorry."

When someone is caught stealing and the "excuse" given is that this is the first time, my first thought is this the first time they stole something or is this the first time they've been caught? How many other times have these guys lifted items from a high end retailer and got away with it?
UCLA gives up 45 points in the first half to Central Arkansas coached by none other than Russ Pennell.

The correct thing to do is keep them in for OOC games and then suddenly, when the conference season starts, suspend them for like ???.Chicat wrote:I don’t understand why they aren’t suspended for the season, or at least for a defined time period. Indefinite strikes me as “until the team needs you”.
The WORST thing you can do for the conference is suspend them for the entirety of the OOC schedule.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
After seeing UCLA's first game (even understanding they're short handed) it was clear it was a two team race for the title. There's no way UCLA can compete with either USC or Arizona over 18 games.scumdevils86 wrote:Down 6 to the team predicted #12 in the southland conference

While I think there is some truth to the 8 man rotation and slight jet lag from China, but it's just not a very well coached team. I think the assistant coaching staff might be the worst that I can rememberzonagrad wrote:Heard that before.MrBug708 wrote:Defense is going to be a problem.

They are definitely in trouble. Looks like they will win tonight, but Central Arky?

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Based on this sample size, UCLA will not finish higher than 5th in the Pac this season. That was downright pathetic.

Spiff, don't you think that Lavar sort of convinced the world that Lonzo (maybe even Lonzo) was not only NBA-ready but a top 3 pick? I think Lonzo will get through this and go on to become a good player. But man is he struggling. A second year in college would've done him wonders.Spaceman Spiff wrote:UCLA wishes they had Lonzo back and the way Lonzo is shooting, he probably wishes he was back at UCLA.MrBug708 wrote:Gonna be a rough season. I'd disagree. His issue is he is in a horrible shooting slump. He was a better shooter in HS, College and Summer League but right now he can't hit the ocean from a boat.Beachcat97 wrote:Spiff, don't you think that Lavar sort of convinced the world that Lonzo (maybe even Lonzo) was not only NBA-ready but a top 3 pick? My opinion is this is mental and college/pro, he needs to get his mind right and shake the issues. It isn't really about his ability and he's performing fine on D, rebounding and assists. He is just shooting horrifically, but he didn't do that at UCLA. This is a performance issue for me, not seasoning.
His game is ready for the NBA, but you can't sustain less than 30% from the field and 20% from 3. He isn't as bad as those numbers, but he has to start showing it. The yips can be real.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
I hope you're right. Lonzo seems like a good guy, and it's painful to watch him struggle. If the slump lasts all season, the negative press is going to really test him. I also hope Lavar shuts the f up.Spaceman Spiff wrote:I'd disagree. His issue is he is in a horrible shooting slump. Lonzo has always seemed like a decent kid. All the attention Lavar draws wasn't an issue when things were going well.Beachcat97 wrote:I hope you're right. Now that they're not going well, Lonzo's getting hit with the downside of Lavar being a publicity hog. Fultz has actually done worse than Lonzo, but Lavar has Lonzo under such a microscope that when he hits a slump, he gets outsized pressure.
It's a lot for a young kid. I feel bad for Lonzo. Like I said, Lavar's stuff is fine when things are going well, but it backfires big time when the struggles come. They do tend to come.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
If they bring them back soon, I personally think funny is the wrong word choice. After ASU, UCLA is easily the team I root against the most - but at the same time - I'm still stuck on what I think is such a large mistake combined with an extremely fortunate outcome. The sooner those three kids are back playing for the team - the more UCLA agrees with Lavar that it was "no big deal".SCCats wrote:Won't effect anything. UCLA’s usual irrelevance has returned.

Probably watching the beginning of the end of the Alford era.

Hope not. Hopefully this will drag on for another two years the way it did with Mora and then it becomes a no brainer.MrBug708 wrote:Probably watching the beginning of the end of the Alford era.

Pretty sure it's been dragging out for a few years. Can't imagine Dan is preparing for much these days, but the buyout won't be an issue at this point.zonagrad wrote:Hope not.
