Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Just read a UCLA fan say they started using charters for places without direct connections to LA, like Pullman and Tucson

Thats dumb. They usually only used charters when flight times on road trips werent ideal. Like late Thursday night flights. Alford had a charter flight for recruiting trips whenever he want.

They might snag a notable mid-major coach (Marshall), or D1 guys like Matta and Crean, who have decent resumes, but flamed out at the end of their last jobs. UCLA is not getting Kerr or Donovan, let alone Izzo. Why would Izzo leave Michigan State? Dakich is out of his mind. Why not add Coach K to the list?

Dakich is good friends with Alford, so that narrative of demanding too much will likely be played over and over by a few agenda driven media heads

Musselman would be a good hire, and that's probably the most realistic name out there. Watson hasn't done sh*t as a coach, and I can't imagine UCLA alums/boosters would be pleased.

That’s why I laughed when someone on the Bruinzone board made a big contrarian suggestion/prediction: Kobe Bryant. I can’t remember if he was quoting a media source or if it was his own genius idea.

The two Pac-12 flagship programs in shocking disarray. I'm just glad we were able to pass on the genital herpes to UCLA. Still trying to figure out how Shareef made it past the impossibly stringent UCLA admissions board.

In any case, he wasn't playing defense in the 2nd half against Utah.

That's why he is a good hire for UCLA, not for Arizona!

Luke was an assistant to Pastner for a while at Memphis, so I imagine he is well aware of the nightmares of recruiting, along with navigating the maze of NCAA regulations.

There is a reason why Kerr said he will never coach in college.

But if you are out of a job, any job looks good.

The difference is that Luke is an AZ alum, and he has first-hand experience with this program. As a player, he won a Pac title and reached a FF. So I think this makes it much more likely he'd get consideration at AZ. Why would UCLA hire a guy with no ties to their program and no HC experience, when they could go and get Matt Painter or Thad Matta or maybe even Rick Barnes?

UCLA should go after the Texas Tech Coach. They should be able to hire who they want although maybe they might be challenged monetarily. Wonder what Bug is hearing

I wouldn't say no ties...

But for Arizona keep with the same model that has worked, get a young driven successful head coach from a smaller program.

No assistants, no retreads.

Bill has proven to have less influence than Lavar. And I'll leave it at that.

And yeah, if the Miller era is actually winding down, I'm down for a proven coach. I still think Luke will be a good coach eventually. Maybe the timing is wrong for him to be AZ's coach in the near future.

Is Shaq a celebrity? :?

The FBI and federal prosecutors have uncovered a massive bribery scheme to get students admitted to elite universities as recruited athletes and help them cheat on college entrance exams to gain admission.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Boston said the scheme includes nearly four dozen people, including actresses and CEOs, who paid as much as $6 million to get their children into schools such as Georgetown, Stanford, UCLA, Texas, Wake Forest and Yale.

Haha, yeah. Obviously nobody is dumb enough to bribe somebody to get into a school that isn’t insanely difficult to get into. I just love when the sanctimonious balloon gets popped. But it never seems to fully deflate. There’s always more sanctimony on tap ready to fill it back up again. Next year I fully anticipate the Bruin faithful refrain after Nico torches UCLA—“yeah well, Arizona isn’t a real school . . . he never would have made it past UCLA’s admission board!” (without substantial bribes, of course).

Bug,

Is the administration/boosters willing to pay the freight for Bennett/Calipari? If Alford's salary is a guidepost ... seems like Brey/Cronin fit the salary structure.

You guys upping your investment ten fold now? If you guys get Calipari I'd immediately fire Miller after the season and pursue a better coach than recruiter.

They're not getting Calipari. He's already got (arguably) the best job in the game, including the pros. UK's academic standards are significantly lower than UCLA's and will always pay more. Unless the Calipari/UK relationship has soured, it's inconceivable that he'd leave for another job, especially one that's been trending downward for a while now.

Might as well go after k, or roy, otr boeheim.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Actually, Choo, it does. Way bigger. You must not live in L.A. UCLA hoops is simply one show among many other, more popular ones. Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, Rams, Angels, USC football. I mean, if Calipari wants to become a smaller fish in a bigger ocean, that’s what he’d be getting. Most people in L.A. don’t even know, let alone care, that Lonzo went to UCLA. During the Howland years, Pauley was often half empty.

UCLA hoops isn’t “Hollywood” in the sense you’re invoking.

Could it happen? Absolutely. UCLA has always gone the cheap route and thats not really the way it works anymore. I'm skeptical it happens as I don't see a fit for Kentucky after Calipari and I think they know this. Bennett and Beard are the two biggest names and I can't imagine that style works. Had keatts had a great year, he would be an obvious choice but he hasn't and would be a hard sell. Donovan has had a rough second half but he would kill it at Kentucky
