Does this mean he's gone for the rest of the season?

That's not a suit. That's a free blazer from Joseph A. Bank ("Buy 1, get 6 free!") and some wrinkled Dockers. It's the I Don't Give A Fuck, Just Let My Son Shoot The Ball look and he's perfected it.

I cant imagine he ever comes back. Third academic casualty by a guy brought in by Alford. Someone hasn't brushed up on UCLA's academic policies..

4 minutes left in the first half and UCLA has 3 made shots and 9 turnovers.

Alford does realize he was supposed to be a step up from Howland right?

Just now noticed this game (UCLA-Alabama) was on, after finishing the Packers game. Nice filler before I tune into the late NFL game.

Wonder what excuses Alford will have after this game. It would be nice if he would just say "We aren't a good team"

Parker & Hamilton are playing well; very productive with the touches they've had. But all I see is Alford Jr dragging the ball up the floor and coughing in up. Ball should be fed a lot more into Parker. Anyone else see Parker giving us fits in the middle?

Anyone else noticing that the only player Alford talks to (aka coaches up) during the game is his kid? The rest of his roster off to themselves on the bench.

I'm starting to wonder if you might start seeing some really bad things as the season goes on. As an example of a "really bad thing", I might put forward something like Norman Powell just walking away from the team during the season. Things on that level are starting to seem possible.

Feel bad for Powell playing on this trainwreck of a team. Alford goes 3-13 yet it seemed he was 3-23. Hamilton almost gets a triple double with 15-5 and 7. Problem is the 7 was turnovers. 2 points from the bench which is down to what, 3 guys?

It really is a sad state of affairs in bruin land and for the conference. Just don't understand how the AD keeps his job (although Howland and Mora produced)

If either of these things happen, it's on Miller and our upperclassmen.

Oh, and f*** UCLA. Happy to see their "elite" program struggling to stay above .500.

Considering how much UCLA would have to pony up to cut Alford's contract loose, it's already really bad.

Norman Powell can't carry any Division I team, let alone UCLA. Bryce Alford might get 'em to the NIT.

They'll have to back up the dumptruck of cash in Westwood just to start over. That's Michigan football-level bad.

Except Michigan football can lure an elite coach. When was the last time UCLA hired an elite coach? And don't say Howland.

This is beachcat's glory season. uCla starts off on the road in the mountains, and I expect Rado will have some sort of resurgence...and Tah is good.

8-7 in a week, with 5 straight losses?

Even more sad, word on the street was he really wanted to go to SDSU and play for Fisher. But "things" made him go to UCLA/Howland.

If he went to SDSU, he'd probably be a lottery pick already.

Absolutely. It's nice to see UCLA basketball rearing its ugly head. There are some built-in disadvantages with UCLA hoops that will keep them stuck in the 2nd or 3rd tier for the time being, and if they strike out with Brown and Zimmerman, you can expect more of the same next year.

Why would anyone want to play for Steve freaking Alford at UCLA?

i know it's tounge in cheeck but I've watched enough ucla for one season and I just don't see that happening. Now if Az let's Ballhogford go off than we have bigger issues than I thought.

I still smile knowing that they forced out a really good basketball coach, only to get Alford.

There are multiple reasons they haven't been able to attract an elite coach. Not sure why so few can see it. Zero fan support, students don't care, UCLA is more interested in academics than athletics, etc. It's up to the Jim Moras and Steve Alfords of the world to carry their flagship athletic programs.

If there's enough damage done, it may become interesting as a turnaround story, and the fan base would be desperate for anything just a little bit better. It'd have to be someone younger, a rising star. That's my prediction how it shakes out. But needs to hit bottom first.

Where exactly is bottom? UCLA is a third tier program nationally, and currently about the same in their own conference. UK beat them by 40. Is "bottom" losing by 50?
