Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Logged in at BRO after the PAC-12 Title go read and be inspired. Eventually I was surprised by a Tommy Lloyd praise fest and contributed with a few answers to questions.
Long story short, majority of BRO posters like me, and I accidentally caused a rift twixt them and the outspoken handful who hate seeing positive Arizona news or who couldn’t stand me being so well received. There’s several micro-arguments of UCLA fans who like me calling the ones who don’t embarrassing and pathetic. One is so stick up his ass it is hilarious.
Long short, I think a lot of them are jealous of the style of player, the caliber of athlete, and the upside of Lloyd.

I don’t blame them. Coming off a Final Four appearance and predicted to steamroll the conference on their way to a #1 seed, they can’t be happy that for the next however many years their Lollipop Guild coach will be trying to win games 51-49 while we are running and gunning in the desert putting up 90 points and in a dunk you very much offense.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
It was weird getting to flex on my Sean Miller/FBI probe knowledge on their board. It wasn’t my intent, but a few of the ones who didn’t like me being there tried to get rid of me by bringing it up.
Ended the conversation with a LMAO when one of them simply replied he was no longer engaging with me so leave him be.
Now he’s ranting about academics.

Cronin isn't winning another game in Tucson. He's lucky he got to ucla while "the troubles" were still stirring. Now that we've turned the corner and have the best coach in the Pac (yep, I said it), I foresee another run of dominance over those fuckers.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 6:53 am I don’t blame them. Y'all get the impression Trollops fans won't get the heart flutter watching Mick's iso-centric stick-up-the-ass system run up against our Super Colon Blow Spurt of Death?

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Think they had a chance to hire a much better coach - Rick Barnes - and wouldn't pay for him. So they got stuck with the guy who had middling success at Cincy for many years. Alford built a pretty good roster before he left, so the cupboard was not bare. Let's see, though, where this guy is 5 years out. Think they have a decent class coming in next season. Can he do anything with it?dovecanyoncat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 10:24 am Y'all get the impression Trollops fans won't get the heart flutter watching Mick's iso-centric stick-up-the-ass system run up against our Super Colon Blow Spurt of Death?

Geez Beach Cat, their coach was just to a FF and might do it again. He has won 6 of the last 8 from us and is more than solid as a coach.
If you mean it’s good for the conference because we desperately need a great UCLA and AZ program then yes, I agree.
Go bruins and go PAC 12. Let’s get two to the FF

Yeah, Cronin isn’t Alford. He’s a good coach, and seems a solid recruiter, and also seems a reasonable dude.

Anyway, last season will end up being the high water mark for the Lollipop Guild's diminutive leader. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to admit it.

Coach McConstipation will probably win this by plugging up the game.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
All teams have close calls in the tourney. To me UCLA looks exhausted. Mick appears to be lot like Stoops was for us. It can't be fun to hear constant criticism from your coach in public. It is embarrassing to them. I think his style of play will limit his long term effectiveness.
Tying him up for six years was necessary because that is what USC's coach got. I have my own thoughts if he will ever make it to the end of that contract. This is a team that was unanimously picked to win the PAC and finished 3 games out. He did beat USC twice which is a big deal and he finally broke through at Oregon. He has a very good recruiting class coming in but the key will be if he can continue that with his style of play and the portal being available.

True dat!! Gotta admit, even when they play as poorly as they did most of that game, the uclans get really tough when their backs are against the wall!!

I did pick UCLA to go to Final 4 in 1 of my brackets... but they will need Juzeng to get it going
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Because I have a sick 4 year old, I have some time that I might regret.
Have a good day TC. Good Luck today!
You have echoed this extensively here. Do you have some examples? And examples of where they've expressed embarrassment?
Maybe? I'd rather stick with this than chase what Howland did, giving up athleticism and defense for scoring. The team is very unathletic right now. Watson is a work in progress. But as long as Mick doesnt get too star hungry, I dont see it being an issue. This team has bought into what Mick has been peddling and they aren't a great bunch of defenders.I think his style of play will limit his long term effectiveness.
It has nothing to do with USC. Louisville was snooping around and Mick was able to get more money for other parts of the program, manly assistants.Tying him up for six years was necessary because that is what USC's coach got.
Very few coaches ever reach the end of a contract. Most are fired, move on, or extended again.I have my own thoughts if he will ever make it to the end of that contract.
They were. I was pretty candidate here before the season and thought that they'd have some bumps. They were much stronger earlier in the year before the COVID pause and have struggled to really put it all together for long stretches. I think he's relied on a lot of players who got hot last year, even when they've been struggling in games. Arizona coming out in gangbusters certainly wasnt part of the preseason prognostications either, so the predictions are always just that. This is a team that was unanimously picked to win the PAC and finished 3 games out. He did beat USC twice which is a big deal and he finally broke through at Oregon.
You are wondering if UCLA will struggle to recruit? Or his style of play will keep top players from coming to Los Angeles? I'm confident that if Mick is no longer able to recruit 5*'s, that he should still have no end of high level 4*'s to come play for him. The current players love him. He's yet to have a player transfer out, though I suspect we'll see some turnover this year with players wanting minutes. He has a very good recruiting class coming in but the key will be if he can continue that with his style of play and the portal being available.
Have a good day TC. Good Luck today!

Juzang is a shell of himself right now. UCLA started the second with the lineup that was punked for the first 8 minutes of the game. Hpefully they dont cough up the lead.
