You would think the same about UCLA.
Except UCLA doesn't have the money, fans, and expectations are mile high.

Ucla has basically raise donations for both a football and basketball facilities. They need someone better at making decisions at the top

Yep.

http://dailybruin.com/2015/02/02/ucla-a ... ll-center/

A pair of UCLA alumni donated $10 million to the planned Wasserman Football Center project, UCLA Athletics announced Monday.

The donation, from philanthropists Jim and Carol Collins, comes a week after a $1 million donation from David Lund and his wife Marilyn Silva-Lund and pushes total cash donations from private citizens above $53 million for the project.

UCLA will break ground on its new basketball practice facility in the fall of 2015, after a $10 million donation from Warner Bros. music executive Mo Ostin put the athletic department nearly halfway to its fundraising goal.

This. Truly one of the greatest non-happenings in Arizona program history. UCLA is the only program that can legitimately compete with us, in recruit homes and on the scoreboard, in the west. And their job being open did, I'll admit, concern me. I feared a knockout hire.

Then Alford ' s name came up, and I realized they were actually downgrading. I like Howland...a lot. I am an NAU fan 2nd and have watched his career with great interest. I will always cheer for him when he is not in the Cats' way. I guess he really hurt his relationship with the So Cal high school coaches with some of his personnel decisions, so he was going to have a hard time replicating his early success in Westwood. But even with those issues, likely somewhat overblown, he had more potential than Rev. Alford.

I'm glad for Ben Howland. He can write his name real big in brownish red.

They really think they can do better? At least with Herb they beat us and made the big dance a few times. They're kidding themselves if they think they can have bigger success than that.

With the budget issues Asu has it's not like they can offer $2.5 million to some.big name or top assistant. Asu would be offering 30 year old assistants looking for their first real job or another retread like Sendek

If the Sun Devils move on Sendek, a number of names have already emerged as possible candidates, including Memphis coach Josh Pastner and UC Irvine's Russell Turner.
From Andy Katz. lol at Pastner coming to ASU. You'd leave Memphis for ASU?

They won't be able to offer him enough money.... unless he has a weak termination clause in his contract and his seat is getting hot. I do not see this happening.

If he were to be offered and take the job it would put to rest the notion that he truly bleeds cardinal and navy...

Perhaps, but he has been a hot target for years now and his players no doubt know that every year for him at Wichita State is a year-by-year process.

He's trying to get out in front of the situation just in case Alabama has an incompetent AD type of thing?

I heard Marshall in a radio interview a couple years ago when UCLA hired Alford. He was asked why he did not have an interest in that job. He said that he did but he would not discuss a new job with anyone until after his team is done playing in the tournament. UCLA did not want to wait as Wichita St. was in the Final Four that year. By the time the Shockers were eliminated there were no jobs that interested him. Dude seems pretty honest.

Arizona State has offered Jeff Capel its coaching vacancy following the firing of Herb Sendek, sources told ESPN.

Sendek was fired Tuesday after nine seasons with the Sun Devils, who went 18-16 and missed the NCAA tournament this year.

Capel, 40, the former head coach at VCU and Oklahoma, is currently an assistant at Duke.

"They have interest," a source told ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf. "They've told [Capel] it's his if he wants it."

Gotta think this is just Marshall using Bama to get more money. He has it pretty good at Wichita State right now, he makes roughly $2 million as a base salary, absolutely zero pressure and a growing program. He has the chance to make them a Gonzaga and be patient in the meantime until a much better job opens up. He has a huge ego and I don't see someone like that wanting to be under the shadow of Saban and Alabama football. He probably wants to be the big man, the center of attention, wherever he goes. Dont want to get into a dick measuring contest with a lot of those SEC coaches, cuz you are going to lose every team absent a few schools.
