It was a 4 point game most of the last 8 minutes in the game. They couldn’t really stop penetration and were generally poor on defense. They definitely need a lot of work.
Sounds like Kentucky in 2014.

California beat Prairie View A&M by 4. Oh well, as long as they don’t lose I guess it doesn’t matter.

They've jumped 40 spots on KenPom to start the season. Thank God.

Between Cal's hiring of Mark Fox and Wazzu's hiring of Kyle Smith... the bottom of the Pac has seriously firmed up. Add in Jerrod Haase at Stanford, Hopkins at Washington, and Cronin at UCLA and this is the best group of coaches the Pac-12 has had in some time.

Last point: I said before the season began that I thought KenPom had every Pac-12 team about ten spots too low. Since then, every team has moved up nine or more spots besides Washington and USC (who have roughly held). We now have 4 teams in the top 50 (tournament teams, with UW at 51 for 5 total), 9 teams in the top 100 (quality opponents), and every team is in the top 150. If that holds - this is the strongest top to bottom Pac-12 since 2013 and one of the top three strongest of the past fifteen years.

Woolridge has some durty in his game. And the refs have decided they need to be in the box score.

Imagine the meltdown and worry if we beat a team like UTArlington by just six at McKale?

Would be written off and take a hit on the rankings.

I've been big on Gonzaga but they've got some real weaknesses. They play only 8 deep with two forwards and one guard on the bench. That back-up guard is a question mark (tons of potential but lacks consistency/confidence?) and the two bench forwards are freshman four stars (good players but still adjusting). Corey Kispert the starting SF is useless if he's not hitting threes. Their starting PG is a former mid-major star and it's still questionable how he'll perform against elite competition. Four of their top eight are newcomers.

Hmm... it's still early and clearly my impressions are fluid at this point, but I've got more confidence in our ability to take the W against them then I had entering the season.

Gonzaga is going to have some loses this non conference.

They're going to Battle 4 Atlantis. The second round matchup they're going to face at least one top #15 team in Seton Hall or Oregon, the possible championship game would be vs North Carolina.

Then they play @ Washington
Then they play @ Arizona
The they play North Carolina again at home in Spokane

If they go through that with 1 or 2 loses they'll likely be a top 2 seed

That schedule is brutal. Why can't we schedule like that?

Because we don’t play in a conference filled with borderline Div 1 schools. They have to.

How would we feel if we had just a 2 point lead at home against Elon with 3:58 to go in the first half? North Carolina is not the 5th best team in the country.

Cal & Wazzu would finish middle of the pac in that conference.

I've been saying this since before the season tipped off. UNC is not a top ten team this season and I doubt they ever will be.

UNC fans are finally getting the picture with that struggle session against Elon (ranked 315th by KenPom). Some are still saying "well we'll get Brandon Robinson and Sterling Manley back soon and that will change everything." Those are two former three star recruits who have spent their whole career as bench players. While we've never brought in players ranked that low under Miller, it'd be something like if we were struggling this season and blamed it on Ira Lee and Dylan Smith being out with injury.

We can talk about the greatness of Cole Anthony (who took 14 FGAs to get 9 pts last night, and took 24 attempts to get 20pts two games prior)... and Garrison Brooks is a nice two way forward... but the rest of that team is shaky. Can't wait to see them tumble down the rankings with the games they have coming up (Ohio State, UVA, Alabama, Gonzaga, Michigan / Iowa St, Oregon / Seton Hall / Gonzaga). Wouldn't be surprised to see them with a dozen losses by the end of the year.

Crushed that ending ten minutes though, so gotta respect that despite letting a horrible team stay in the game for 30 min. Still finished with a 1.23ppp vs 0.81ppp (incredible offense and defense in total).

Gotta get K to pass Wooden and set the record for most wins as an AP #1 team somehow.

I mean, if they lost they’d probably slide all the way down to #2 and it might take a few games to get another shot at it.

Took the words right outta my mouth. Now, if instead of Richmond it were us, Bo Ryan would have morphed out of a bench cushion, Stankface & Cracker would have suited up and, and..... thank fucking god we beat Illinois.
