Any tourney dark horses?

The top 8 has basically stayed the same all year

I can't think of a team outside the top 8 that has a chance to win it all

Is it really just an 8 team race?

Utah is the first team that jumps to mind for me. They get hot they could do it.

I'm thinking Iowa St as well.

Of the teams ranked outside the top 30 how about Kansas?

I like Arkansas and Notre Dame to make some noise.

Utah is an obvious choice. North Carolina is inconsistent as hell but if they show up for the right games they can make a deep run. Ohio State is another team that jumps out at me.

I can see a northern Iowa or Arkansas or Notre dame or Utah randomly in the elite 8 or final 4

Wichita St who will play with great confidence along with a chip on there shoulder. I think they are a great 8 team unless they are a 4 opposite us or Kentucky in the sweet 16

Final Four Darkhorses ... (not necessarily Title Darkhorses, but ya never know)
  • Wichita State - Been There, Done That, one of the best trios in CBB (The Law Firm of Baker Cotton & VanVleet)
Maryland - Not many teams will be able to deal with Melo and Dez. Surrounded by decent outside shooters at the other positions
North Carolina - Losing at Duke by 2 was a really impressive result, might be starting to figure it all out.
LSU - Getting consistent guard play will be the key, as they can match up inside with anyone.
Arkansas - As athletic as anyone in the country. Portis is a monster. Guard play after Madden and recent inconsistent perimeter shooting is an issue.
Baylor - Under the radar, sneaky deep, great rebounding team, not as plagued by NBA-auditionitis as prior teams.
West Virginia - Juwan Staten has been nearly unstoppable lately, and he's supported by a bunch of typical Huggins Guys.
Two more who could do damage, if they actually make it in (looking at the wrong side of the bubble right now):
  • Texas - The talent and depth is there, the chemistry is lacking, and the coaching is suspect (as usual). However, if they play their way into the tourney, that means they will have beaten tourney team Baylor, a decent Kansas State team, a scrappy TCU, then Kansas, then one of NCAA-bound Oklahoma/Baylor/West Virginia before the Big 12 Final, in a matter of 12 days. Some winning momentum makes them that much more dangerous.
BYU - Currently the most bubblicious team out there, they likely need to at least play Gonzaga in the WCC Final. Their collective ability to score should scare most teams, but their inability to defend would eventually be their undoing.

Baylor but they are shit and miss. SMUs length and athleticism may give teams problems. Kansas would not surprise me if they make it. They are talented.

Biggest dark horse is the coach without a Final Four to his credit.
