Looks like Rick Pitino has coached his last game
On-campus sex parties for Louisville recruits. Players, women talk about payments to escorts, strippers. I doubt there was any way Pitino did not know what was going on, but even if he didn't, he needs to be fired because he is the one in charge of the program. This could get really ugly and if I'm the president of Louisville, I would be very nervous about my job.

I bet Louisville isn't the only school that does this. Actually I bet most big time programs do.

Powell alleges that McGee, who played for Louisville before becoming a graduate assistant coach and director of men’s basketball operations, paid her $10,000 for the 22 shows. The dancers included Powell, her three daughters and other women, according to the book.

The photo of her posing with her daughter in the Louisville dorm was priceless.

I'm not sure most do it like this. I think most do it like "Take .... to that sorority party you're all going to and tell the girls there he's a basketball recruit."Catintheheat wrote:I bet Louisville isn't the only school that does this. Actually I bet most big time programs do.

Didn't they make a movie about that? Pretty sure Lute did a cameo in that movie too, although he kept his clothes on.

If Rick Pitino isn’t already packing up his office at Louisville, he ought to get started.

LOL. Only a matter of time before the other big guy in the state gets caught up in something like this. Not surprised, but how dumb can you be. Like someone said, make sure your players bring him around women and let them know he is Jesus Shuttlesworth, absolutely no trail whatsoever and he is going to have a happy ending. Dumb dumb dumb.
So 2010-2014, the 2013 natty will undoubtedly be vacated, right? Poor Wichita State and who was the runner up that year, Michigan?

No university is going to hire a man who (likely) was behind what is flat out prostitution for athletes and recruits. Females under 18 too, and those involved should at least be thankful the age of consent in that state is 16 and not 18. Strippers on campus aside. Recruiting violations and ethics aside.
Find me something Roy Williams, Jim Boehiem, and Larry Brown have down that is even close to being as completely egregious as this. Running a damn whorehouse, on campus, for your athletes and recruits?

Rick released a statement refusing to resign.
Granted the AD is scum too, but where is the University Pres? Call the AD into your office and fire him if he won't agree to fire Rick!
And what about the local beat journalists? They just content to write postmortems on the Cincinnati Reds these days?
(Madder than I should be about this.)

I agree that hiring pros for people who legally are children is a gots to go situation. If Rick coaches even one game for Louisville this year I would call that a pretty significant institutional failing on their part. But Rick does win games and nattys so sometimes those dollars signs blind you to the clear truth of the situation.
Re: Looks like Rick Pitino has coached his last game
In Pitino's case is plausible deniability the point? I can think of one current presidential candidate with total deniability and it's not helping them much. So many other examples.SCCats wrote: Same result, in fact probably better result, total deniability and no money trail.

Re: Looks like Rick Pitino has coached his last game
I just find all of the deflections, excuses and justifications to be hilarious. You expect this from Louisville homers, but reading comments sections all over the web, people are delusional. "What about UNC?" "This happens at every program and if you don't believe that you are in denial." "Pitino had no idea." Sure, there are probably many programs who push the boundaries of violations and ethics, and then some who actually do flat out cheat. But, strippers, prostitution, underage recruits and underage prostitutes? All on campus? This is mind blowing to me, and I was a college athlete and know countless others who were too who have shared their recruiting visit stories and the wildest stories from their college days. Knowing your recruit is probably going out with some of your team for some drinks or a party that night and not telling them not to is normal. Knowing your recruit will likely have coeds on him at said party, and he will probably get laid but "I dont want to know about it" is normal. Improper benefits, not normal, but we are fools if we think it only happens at a few schools. But this is downright insane.
I'm surprised there isn't a bigger outcry for this. I'm surprised there aren't people lining up with torches calling for heads. I know it is still early in the investigation, but you have the women that were there, AND, you have multiple recruits and UL players saying it happened. Not even looking at it from the perspective of criminal charges, there you can get into the deeper investigation and beyond a reasonable doubt and all that. The way the university is handling this is insane. You gonna let your coach issue a statement he isn't resigning? I haven't completely combed the internet, but the media outcry on this is nothing compared to stuff in sports not involving child prostitution. This should be one of the biggest scandals in college sports history and it is being treated like ho hum violations at a big school. I guess maybe because the recruits and players are male and the prostitutes (by kentucky law) are consenting females, prostitution be damned? If this was the UCONN women's team and we found out that program was paying men to serve pipe to 17 year old recruits, I guess that would be a bigger deal?
There can't be any way in this world he walks away from this. Joe Pa was a god, loved, clean as a whistle, an elderly man that pained your soul to see go through what he did. Child molestation is one of the most evil and damaging crimes a person can commit and higher up on the terrible scale than prostitution involving 16 and 17 years olds, and I know Joe Pa and that program dropped the ball in several areas that could have maybe prevented further victimization (at the minimum, under their watch), but you mean to tell me that Joe Pa is more culpable than Pitino is in this situation? Lets not be naive here.

Re: Looks like Rick Pitino has coached his last game
Situations where the situation would be instantaneously different: 1) possibly the one you mentioned (men having sex with underage female recruits), 2) if this happened at a non Power 5 school (we're looking at you Boise State, get ready for some sanctions over this Louisville affair!), 3) but the biggest is probably if the coach wasn't super successful with national titles under his belt (you think the AD let's a guy who went 15-15 last year and had never been to a final four much less win a natty release a "I'm not resigning" statement? He'd have been fired five minutes after these allegations came out).rgdeuce wrote: I guess maybe because the recruits and players are male and the prostitutes (by kentucky law) are consenting females, prostitution be damned? I'm sure there's more than enough willing sorority girls on campus willing to party for free. But they're going to want to take pics and post them to their facebook and snapchat and whatever else they use to let the whole world know that they proudly service basketball recruits whenever someone from the team asks them to. That cat wouldn't be in the bag for very long at all. Sticking with professionals is actually the smartest way to go about something like this I would think. Pretty much your only chance of keeping it on the down low really. Non-professional girls are too emotional and talk way too much.

That's what's starkly different about this case. There was an intended financial effort behind what's usually contained by the in-house supply of flighty college girls.ASUHATER! wrote:The weird thing is that they have to actually put out effort and money into getting them laid.

I went to college in a different era, but is it really that hard for a college basketball player--a recruit even, to get laid? I mean, I didn't even dominate the rec games and it wasn't that hard...

Read what I posted again. I never said it was a good idea. Not even close. Just that if you want to keep something like this a secret, using professionals would be the best way of going about it. Understand now? Of course it wasn't a good idea. But if I'm an asst coach, and my coach tells me to make sure the recruits get their peckers wet during their visits, professionals is what I'd use. Because, like I said before, non-professional girls are too emotional, and talk way too much. Neither avenue is a "good idea." by any means. But gun to my head, I'm going with the pro's.Chicat wrote:So you think the hookers were a good idea? Who the hell cares though? Girls post pics on social media with players and recruits all the time. You can look at them and say, he boned one of them, or could have if he wanted to. That's expected, that's normal. It's more abnormal for athletes to turn that down. We had girls at my college who would sleep with recruits and walk the halls of the dorms immediately after bragging about it. All we did was laugh and think they were sluts. It is not something that really has to be kept on the down low unless you are dealing with statutory rape. And even then, it happens a lot and I've never once heard of any consequences of that. My teammate banged a 17-year-old softball recruit, and believe the rest of the team was trying to do the same. Depending on the state, a 19-year-old female banging a 5 star 17 year old is only incriminating herself by bragging, but again, Im not sure I have ever heard of this being a huge legal thing, at least for the university itself. Recruits having too much to drink, yeah, but sex, no.Macho Grande wrote:ASUHATER! wrote:The weird thing is that they have to actually put out effort and money into getting them laid.

Hookers and strippers on the other hand.... That is jaw-dropping stuff. Stuff that would have made my head explode and I was a wild dude when I was that age. And honestly, even at 17 and 18 I would have had more sense than to bang strippers if I knew it was something that was paid for.

I was screaming this at this time last year.. And reading Spliffs article, the NCAA isnt even pursuing allegations that he knew this activity was going on. Bullshit if he didn't. Whether they have enough to prove it is one thing, but my guess is, they won't be turning over any stones to see if that pops up. Aka squeezing the right people til they talk. We all knew Ricky boy knew exactly what was going on. Your "underlings" arent going to pull off some shit like that under the coaches nose without approval or a head nod. So he will get his 4-10 game suspension, at most, and be good for the NCAA tournament. Plus Louisville proactively self-banned themselves from last year's tournament, in a year where they werent shit, so that may mitigate any penalties even more.Bangkok Wildcat wrote:How this isn't getting more press is beyond me...am guessing he'll get away with it and just slight penalties.....

Re: Looks like Rick Pitino has coached his last game
Allegedly NCAA findings come today.
Re: Looks like Rick Pitino has coached his last game
Pitino suspended 5 ACC games.
*Updated:
The Louisville men's basketball penalties from the NCAA include scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions, though some of these penalties were already self-imposed by the university.
The NCAA is requiring Louisville to reduce scholarships by four during its four-year probation. The school had self-imposed a reduction of two scholarships for 2016-17.
Louisville will be allowed no more than 16 official visits during the 2017-18 school year.
Prospects on unofficial visits won't be allowed to spend the night in any campus dorms or school-owned property while Louisville's on probation.
The NCAA wants Louisville to vacate records for any games "in which student-athletes competed while ineligible from December 2010 and July 2014."
The NCAA says Louisville must provide a written report within 45 days detailing which games were impacted.

McGee got a 10 year show-cause. It's crazy that if the case was so strong against him, that they didn't touch the rest of the program hardly at all.

Crazy but not at all surprising. I guess "ridiculous" would have better portrayed my thought.Spaceman Spiff wrote:Is it, though?prh wrote:McGee got a 10 year show-cause. It's crazy that if the case was so strong against him, that they didn't touch the rest of the program hardly at all.

5 conference games? That's it? Although it's deserved, I wasn't wanting a death penalty, Pitino to receive a multi-year ban from coaching, etc. But minimum, Pitino should have been out a year, the scholarship hit should have had one or two more, and there should have been at least 1 more year of an NCAA tournament ban. I mean Jesus Christ, even if he claims he had zero knowledge of what transpired, you have to be accountable for huge shit that happens in YOUR program, especially when it involves providing sex to underage men, bringing in underage women to have sex with your players, on top of violating all the other ethical, legal and fairness rules. I'm not surprised, but I figured if there was something that was going to do it, it would be something that involves minors and sex.

It would be nice to see Louisville man up and not need the NCAA to step in. Between the 15 second abortion scandal and this, how far gone is Pitino's soul?rgdeuce wrote:5 conference games? That's it? Of course Louisville also rehired Bobby Petrino.

Isn't the whole idea of these recruiting systems, that the HC is intentionally kept in the dark? Like Pitino may know there is some sketchy stuff going on to get his recruits, but he has no idea of the specifics. Others do the dirty work, so he is kept clean.Olsondogg wrote:There is zero chance that Pitino didn't know about this. Zero.

Former NAU AD Tom Jurich is the AD at Louisville. The guy has always talked a good game. The entire athletic department at L'Ville is without a soul. As long as the money flows, Louisville will make its decisions based on economics and not morality. Only once boosters and fans begin withholding financial support will a change be in order. Sadly, that's how it's done there and most other places. Not a lot of integrity anymore.Spaceman Spiff wrote:It would be nice to see Louisville man up and not need the NCAA to step in. Good first paragraph here IMO:
"Going 55 in a 50-mile per hour zone? The NCAA will handle it swiftly. Happen to be driving 100 while coeds are hanging out the sides of each window? The governing body of college sports will do everything in its power to make sure you get penalized with the most meaningless fine. Hell, it will probably blame the construction of the roads as opposed to the driver......"

That is what they want you to believe, so there is "separation" and the potential for deniability. You see the same shit with the mob. But it is naive to believe the mob boss is not calling shots. Mob bosses don't sit there in the dark while those below them call the big shots and make the big decisions. They became the boss for a reason, and you don't put those below you in positions to make important calls when the wrong one can get you caught up and let the feds/police take down the whole thing, including you. Pitino likely did not know the names of the women/girls, he wasn't shown photographs of them and asked to select which ones would be invited, but he knew women were coming in to bang his recruits and there was the potential that some of them could have been minors, unsavory characters, and/or involved in illicit activity outside of what they were doing for the school.1stNGrant Frys wrote:Isn't the whole idea of these recruiting systems, that the HC is intentionally kept in the dark? This is the whole reason Calipari is in the basketball hall of fame and still the head coach of arguably the greatest college BB program in the country. Sure he didn't know that Derrick Rose cheated on his SATs and sure he didn't know that Marcus Camby and everyone close to him got improper benefits. Derrick Rose was the best basketball player in the country before he went to Memphis and he could have gone anywhere, you would have to be a fool to believe that Rose merely did it because of his love for Worldwide Wes, and because Worldwide Wes did it merely because Calipari took care of someone from Wes' family.
