UVA scored 0.81 points per possession... that is NOT GREAT

What is the metric for an efficient team?

1.0 is average-ish - below that and you're struggling. Even 1.0 usually isn't enough to win a game. 1.2 would be exceptional (so on the flip side, 0.8 is exceptionally bad).

They held Syracuse to 0.6, which is absurdly bad.

Edit: A top 100 offense should score 1.05 ppp... a top 50, 1.10 ppp... a top 10, 1.15 ppp. The lowest avg ppp last season was 0.85. So let's call 1.10 average for a quality team.

Illinois plays at GCU tonight in Glendale. Guess they blew a 20 point lead before beating Nicholls St on OT at home

I'm chomping at the bit for this game.

Two players to watch on Illinois: soph guard Ayo Dosunmu who has gotten All American chatter and frosh monster center Kofi Cockburn.

Dosunmu plays well in transition, has an elite first step (making him great on hand-offs and cuts), and is an excellent three point shooter off the catch or single dribble. His quickness and size make him a threat to jump passing lanes on the other side. However, he's not a good decision maker in the half court and can't create his own shot (beyond running past his guy).

Cockburn is 7'0" 290lbs - guy is a brick wall.... but also, he moves like a brick wall. Not a leaper or a lateral movement guy, but he's a big wide body that is tough to get around. Kind of a Zeus-like defender if Zeus was a fifty pounds heavier and moved at three quarter speed - won't get many blocks but will alter shots / drives at the rim. Nice touch around the rim but no range and questionable free throw shooting.

Illinois should smoke GCU (who lost to a D2 team to tip off the season).

But I really like what we can do against their guards with Baker, Green, Smith, Doutrive (??). We should have the athletes and length to keep up with their speed, and the discipline (god willing) to force them into their habit of turnovers.

And I like what we can do against their bigs who are relatively limited athletically on defense and in skill on the offensive side. Cockburn may be a mountain but he'll have his hands full keeping up with our more nimble bigs.

Can't wait.

They run 3 guards and got 50+ from them in that first game. They feel they are an upper level BIG 10 team and think this road trip will cement their tourney status

Three guards and none of them are real playmaking PGs, despite being 6'2", 6'2" and 6'5". 12 assists and 23 turnovers in that game, total, with 8 assists and 9 TO's for those three guards.

Dumb question. How could a court issue a stay and allow him to play? NCAA sets its rules. Usually teams appeal BUT are afraid to play a player that could be deemed ineligible. Is Memphis taking a risk here? Not that I am siding with the NCAA and their ridiculous rules.

Seems odd that a local court would have any say in the matter. If this is OK what would stop potentially biased city courts in Durham, Lawrence, Lexington, etc from having their city's bball team's back in all matter of NCAA actions?

Since this is technically a non conference game i guess it goes here. Can someone explain to me why Colorado and ASSu agreed to play a non conference game in China?

Whoops!
How long will Kentucky stay atop the rankings? The Wildcats don't have any true tests on their schedule until late December, when they face Ohio State in Las Vegas and then host Louisville. So get used to Calipari's Cats at No. 1.

Ohio State vs Villanova

Villanova are chuckers and Ohio State is trying to force everything inside. It's not a good game, but OSU is still winning big. I can't believe Nova is ranked #10.

Yeah this UW team hasn't figured out how to score yet. Defense was keeping them in games so far but they're allowing 50% from the field and 50% from three right now.

It was a 4 point game most of the last 8 minutes in the game. They couldn’t really stop penetration and were generally poor on defense. They definitely need a lot of work.
