It's UConn football - a program that makes Arizona look good. Sr. would make for some great sound bites. Disappointed...

Fired 3 times as head coach. Sounds familiar.

Re: Coaching Searches
I think (prior to Jedd Lasso getting the job) that we’d be pretty upset at getting another retread.
Outside of our conference, are we really that much better a program than UConn right now?
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: Coaching Searches
No.
The only difference is UCONN has only had a D1 football program for 20 years meaning it doesn’t really bother most of the alumni base and students.
On other hand I’ve been jonesing for a rose bowl since the MIS class at the U of A was teaching FORTRAN.

Fall of 81? Fred Snowden was still basketball coach. That's how long I have been waiting.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 5:10 pm On other hand I’ve been jonesing for a rose bowl since the MIS class at the U of A was teaching FORTRAN.
FORTRAN on punch cards no less!
FORTRAN was a very underrated language. No need to declare variables like you did in COBOL. Any variable beginning with I, J, K, L were automatically integers, such as ICOUNT. ICOUNT = ICOUNT + 1
Although I really liked Pascal (not an acronym like FORTRAN and COBOL)
icount := icount + 1
Although I spent many decades coding in COBOL and ended up coding Oracle SQL, although legacy, not ANSI standard.
ADD 1 to ICOUNT (COBOL).

Now they can get a real coach, not a cartoon.

Re: Coaching Searches
Me too.
FORTRAN integers are variables starting with I, J, K, L, M, N. The range is the first two letters in the word "integer".FORTRAN on punch cards no less!
FORTRAN was a very underrated language. No need to declare variables like you did in COBOL. Any variable beginning with I, J, K, L were automatically integers, such as ICOUNT. ICOUNT = ICOUNT + 1
You can also sayAlthough I really liked Pascal (not an acronym like FORTRAN and COBOL)
icount := icount + 1
icount := succ(icount);
but I have always preferred your way except in function call parameter lists.
It used to be that the pred() and succ() functions were slower due to the function call, but modern Pascal (e.g. Delphi) optimizes it away.
Delphi is all I program in these days in my retirement (except for a trivial OReXX script now and again).
Me too, well, COBOL and IBM Assembler and both Oracle and DB/2. Then I started installing SAP/R3 and did a lot of SAP/ABAP coding. I always describe ABAP as being to COBOL as BASIC is to FORTRAN - similar, but simplified syntax, and interpreted instead of compiled.Although I spent many decades coding in COBOL and ended up coding Oracle SQL, although legacy, not ANSI standard.
While that is certainly 'traditional' COBOL syntax, COBOL also has a formula syntax using the 'COMPUTE' verb.ADD 1 to ICOUNT (COBOL).
COMPUTE ICOUNT = ICOUNT + 1.

It had to be done. Jerry Kill had them playing well, but he’s not a long term solution.

Re: Coaching Searches
I’ve been so use to USC making terrible decisions that it’s shocking they would even go for Riley. It won’t really matter to Arizona, it’s not like Arizona will be competing for the south for at least a couple of years if everything goes right.
Kliff will use this to get a raise and extension. I can’t really fathom a semi-successful/ breakout NFL coach wanting to move back to college. Oklahoma will be left with a 3rd or 4th option.

Re: Coaching Searches
UW hires Kalen DeBoer from Fresno State. Was 12-6 there just since last season. Won a lot at an NAIA school before Fresno but still not the most impressive hire.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.
i'll just go with fuck asu.

Re: Coaching Searches
That to me is a surprising move. Did they give Kelly like New Orleans or something?
Re: Coaching Searches
Always liked LSU from afar but I have never liked Kelly since he put that kid in the tower that day.

Re: Coaching Searches
Somehow a kid getting $500 to shout out a local pizza place on social media portends the destruction of the amateurism model of college sports but Brian Kelly getting paid $100,000,000 to coach that kid is nothing to even blink at.

Re: Coaching Searches
These salaries are beyond ridiculous at this point. Where does it end?
Re: Coaching Searches
If you thought there was separation between the haves and have nots in college football currently. How on earth are schools outside the top 15 ever going to pay $100 million for head coaches?
