I imagine Apple is waiting to see how their $250M annual deal with MLS will work out, especially with losing a billion dollars a year on Apple TV+, before any new major deals are signed.

Re: Conference Realignment
So you were happy being permanent 5th out of 5th place prior to now?
These latest posts have nothing to do with the Big 12, but rather how fucking worthless an all AppleTV deal for less money than the Big 12 was getting would've been. Unless you're partnering with Netflix or you're the NFL and it doesn't matter who you partner with, going all streaming with your content is equitable to Seppuku.
Re: Conference Realignment
I hate giving anyone from that school credit for anything, but that was perfect.

This is just depressing. And they're seriously keeping the Pac 12 name?
Also, Tucson is losing CW so anyone living here can't watch everything anyway lol.

Just another reminder of how damaging a deal with AppleTV would've been.

Why 12? If you’re going to jettison the name, use a number that makes sense for the current configuration.

The Farmers Only Conference of Champions.
But with the mandate that athletes get paid by the school, money has to come from somewhere. UA AD has the huge deficit.

I'm surprised nobody has thrown out the Buc-ee's 16 as a potential name. The commercials write themselves. Each mascot in a car pumping gas at their own pump at a Buc-ee's, or getting snacks inside...

Re: Conference Realignment
Naming rights is certainly grist for plenty of jokes. But, despite Houston, Dallas, etc., the Big XII is always going to be described with terms like "truck stop" and "tank town"; you just have to consider the source. So, I'm all about shrugging off any and all attempts at mockery and instead embracing change and counting the money and the resulting competitive success. Sports people have complained about change about since the Cincinnati Reds put in lights. So, the Rose Bowl is now The College Football Playoff Semifinal At The Rose Bowl Game, Presented By Prudential. C'est la vie. If the Big XII becomes The Allstate Big XII Conference and we're the first to do it before everybody else and cash in; that's fine with me. Same with selling a small minority share to a private equity firm. Same with naming our stadium after some mining company or whoever else ponies up the most cash.

You should transfer your hate to those who brought the PAC 12 demise. We get that you hate the new conference but we are here now. Follow your own mantra and support the conference your team is in.

Re: Conference Realignment
Pac leadership was hopeless, from Hallock to Hansen to Scott to Kliavkoff, because of the inept and meddlesome presidents. Favoritism, wasting money on the wrong things, poor investments, et al. I was delighted to throw the P12 networks in the trash, and the other sports media types that hitched their wagons to the Pac can flail away trying to retain an audience and any relevance. Some may think getting to stand in a group photo with the California schools added prestige, but when there's little reciprocal respect, you might as well be OSU or WSU. Meanwhile, we seem to be standing at opportune crossroads with some nice momentum and rosters, which is unprecedented, considering the football coaching turnover. People can always find something to be unhappy about. All I know is that we again look headed to post-season play in about every sport that matters in an interesting new conference environment, so hold the Prozac. It's less about the Big XII, more about dancing on the Pac-12's grave...and all about Arizona.

Re: Conference Realignment
This is a look at post-Pac winners and losers for the immediate future in football. Obviously, the longer-term money grab for the Big Ten schools is what drove the whole thing. For now, Oregon's looking pretty as a strong challenger to Ohio St in the B1G. USC makes out in the top third, but Washington and UCLA figure to suffer. In the Big XII, Utah is predicted to push Kansas St for the title, but Arizona should be near the top fourth in the mix. Despite the Coach Prime hype, Colorado looks buried, as does ASU. Cal looks to be somewhat competitive around the middle of the ACC, but Stanford figures to be near the basement. And in the "Pac-2", WSU and OSU will probably scratch out barely winning records, but they'll play schedules that look a lot like Arizona's old days in the WAC, before they play their other sports in the WCC. In terms of side notes, Cal plays back-to-back early season games with ACC predicted numbers one and two Florida State (road) and Miami (home.) This is similar to Arizona playing a (non-conference) early roadie at Big XII #1 Kansas St, taking a week off, then playing at Big XII #2 Utah. Meanwhile, Stanford and UCLA, with all of their women's lacrosse, field hockey, and other teams, will really be coast-to-coast road warriors.

When the PAC hired Kliavkoff they thought they were getting a Yormark clone (an exec with a deep entertainment background) but not all leaders are built the same.

Doing the math for the new B1G members – values in roundtrip travel miles:
UCLA: @Hawaii: 5116 + @LSU: 3196 + @Penn St: 4498 + @Rutgers: 4856 + @Nebraska: 4086 + @Washington: 1920 = 23,672
USC: Vs LSU: 550 + @Michigan: 3888 + @Minnesota: 3048 + @Maryland: 4620 + @Washington: 1920 + @UCLA: 20 = 14,046
Washington: @Rutgers: 4890 + @Iowa: 3124 + @Indiana: 3750 + @Penn State: 4436 + @Oregon: 486 = 16,686
Oregon: @Oregon St: 94 + @UCLA: 1476 + @Purdue: 3910 + @Michigan: 3946 + @Wisconsin: 3424 = 12,850
And I said, ‘That last thing is what you can't get...Nobody can get to that last thing. We keep on living in hopes of catching it once and for all.’ Jack Kerouac, On The Road

Re: Conference Realignment
It's a little surprising how quickly all the angst about the demise of the Pac died down. It's been only a little more than a month since the last "real" Pac teams competed and P12N shut down, but all attention seems (properly) focused on competition in the new expanded leagues and expanded CFP. It's only natural for fans to look ahead in a time of change, and it seems like a lot of the gnashing of teeth came from the self-interest of regional sports media types.
I certainly remember being envious of the Pac's "cool factor" status when we were stuck in the WAC in the early 70s. Then, all the excitement going in, but a lot of that was about moving up to the big time, whatever league it would have been. There was also some trepidation, after we'd built to a peak in 75-76, then dropped off. The difference is that this feels more like the excitement of something new, but with a level of confidence, and in more of a lateral move, along with some relief.
Still, after all the chronicling of Pac history, all of that seems almost like a shrug about ancient history and surprisingly quickly forgotten. Maybe it's because the four corners schools were the last in, and less invested. Or, maybe we were just fed up and it got to be rote after our 45 years.

I'd love to see FSU and Clemson in the BIG12 with us. But the question is, how do they get out of their ACC GOR?
