So, what's our thoughts on what constitutes a successful first three years?

For me it's a .500 record in year three.

Actually building a solid foundation for the program with legit players being grown as frosh, sophs and juniors.

I'm concerned Fisch uses the transfer portal and immediate eligibility to build a temporary talent base, overperform expectations in year 1 and 2, bail to a better job and leave us with no talent base.

Just looking well prepared with good execution would be a welcomed first step. I think with the transfer portal granting immediate eligibility I am hoping for accelerated wins in the first three years. I do share Spiffs concerns about where we might be in three years in base talent

Cowherd and Fisch have been good friends for a while.

Also, Cowherd is a stone cold moron.

Fisch is doing a great job so far. I know he has not coached a game yet, but I am enjoying what he has done. Like I mentioned earlier. He is energetic and will work hard. I wonder how many who hated this hire will change their mind? There were some nasty comments made hear and on social media. People react way to fast. You have to let things fall in place. So far Fisch has done everything correct. He needs for everyone to support him and his staff. And of course the program.

I think for me, its the way it went down. Cronyism. And Ricky Bobby put his friend in a tough spot. I've said as such on twitter (Rollo Tomassi is my handle there).

That being said, its almost like Jedd is doing things to win me over personally. I saw Damien Anderson run all over the Big 10 including at the MetroDome. We go get his kid who is a total stud. I played against Coach Paopaos' little brother Nate when he was the QB at El Camino High in Oceanside. I have at least one Scottie Graham autograph at my parents house. New coach likes to run casino blitz. My buddies who played for NMSU love DeWayne Walker. Jalens brother joins him here (Hopefully they are both in a stance at DE this season). Boobie, Jamarye and Ma'Jon are coming back. JB Brown, Pandy, and a solid 6'7 DT are coming back. The only thing that I'd like that hasn't yet happened is Brightwell back- I hated that his freshman year was wasted as a gunner and I'd love to see him get a full season as the bell cow.

Honestly from the day he was hired to now, short of signing 5 star prep prospects I don't see how coach Fisch could've gotten off to a better start.

Irish, you know I love you, but Jedd Fisch hasn’t done shit yet. And I think even he would tell you not to paint him with the brush of low expectations.

He put together a staff, convinced some of our current players to stay, and has gotten a few transfers, all without stepping on his dick. That’s seriously the bare minimum, isn’t it?

If he makes inroads into the west coast high schools that produce the best talent, he convinces Arizona kids who are being widely recruited to stay home, and brings us up to a mediocre level on the field, I will 100% eat uncooked crow. I will wear the stigma of thinking this was a bad hire the way I wear thinking Sumlin was a good one.

But let’s not start sucking each other’s dicks just yet...

Fair enough. I do believe he will get this program in the right direction. The energy Fisch shows is nice to see. I like how Fisch has taken to social media. He understands what it's going to take to sell the program. Like I mentioned earlier, he has not coached a game yet, but I am very impressed so far and looking forward to football again.

Yes, we are getting the band back together. But so far they've played like a high school garage band that plays Nickelback covers. I'm just finding it hard to convince myself Fisch has already turned this thing around because a bunch of guys who have lost their last 12 games in a row decided that transferring to NMSU wasn't in God's plan.

I like the new additions from teams that actually won a bunch, imagine that. The kid from Norte Dame had more offers out of HS than our whole team put together!

Sumlin's first 2 weeks was full of social media hype and excitement from kids too, including the "this kid only considered us cause of Sumlin." Still gotta get the right kids and coach em up right. I'm pleased to see some momentum but I sure hope it is different than what we've seen in the past. I do like a couple that we've seen but we need to continue it.

Every new coach has the hype around them, I however do not remember Kevin Sumlin adding anyone during that hype period other than Chief's pal Kevin Doyle.

I think it's undeniable that Fisch has been impressive in his efforts and enthusiasm so far.... something Sumlin never showed.

What this will produce on the field is anyone's guess.... but as someone who was totally against this hire.... he's impressed me so far. If this can translate to on the field success.... we may all be proven wrong.

Scheer said last night (I can't embed a tweet for shit): Heard the expectation is there will only be around 100 spots at the FBS level for the 1000+ student-athletes that want to transfer. Under current rules they count as part of class of 25 and most schools don’t have spots left. Insanity.

That's why I think all these kids are coming back. Stanley obviously an exception as he had chosen already, but I think a lot of them saw there's no where to go.

I'm happy many of the players have decided to stay. But let's be honest. These are the guys with a 12-game losing streak, and last game out, against ASu, showed the fight of newborn kittens crying for their mother, and not the fight of a Wildcat. Enthusiasm, energy, and a few tweets don't amount to a pile of anything, unless it also means our guys can get tougher, stronger, and faster. And still won't amount to much if the teams we're playing are equally tough, strong, and fast, and better coached.

So Fisch hasn't fallen flat on his face yet. Glad he got over his first, small hurdle. Many more along the way that will be much tougher to tackle.

Half of the guys coming back did not play this year, so it's hard to lump them in with the 12 game losing streak. If some of them had, in particular on the defensive side of the ball, we may not have lost to USC, and surely would not have fallen behind the way we did against some of our other opponents. It helps to have the continuity that these guys will bring with them. At least it stems the bleeding... I'm grateful for that. Does it mean 6 wins next year? No. But it might mean our losses are more competitive (rather than the embarrassing blowouts we had this year), with room to grow the following year. I'll take that as progress.

That's sort of how I feel. It's better not everyone left, but let's not act like this season made us think retaining guys guarantees being competitive.

We were a winless team that got epic beatdowns a few times. Just returning the same roster isn't enough to expect meaningful changes, let alone losing a few contributors like we did.

Heck, some guys are gonna return because they realize they'll get more PT on our decimated roster than any other destination. It's better than a complete implosion, but it's no grand victory.

I'll be dead honest, for me, Fisch needs to produce results faster than I'd have demanded from Ken N or Brennan.

Why? First, Fisch has never stayed any one place longer than 3 years and I don't think he'll change that pattern here. If you want to be an itinerant coach, you need to engineer faster results.

Second, he wasn't the merit candidate. If you don't take the most meritorious candidate, I feel like the leash has to be shorter.

Third, Ken N and Brennan were much more proven as program builders. They would have gotten some leeway from me based on their prior history in terms of having shown they can figure it out. Fisch has not, so he needs to do it or be shown the door.

I can totally agree with this assessment. I was furious at the way this hiring went down, so the leash is pretty short. I simply believe that the fact that having many of the guys that were threatening to leave coming back sets us up better than the current 12-game losing steak may indicate. Several of the defensive guys coming back would have been difference makers between opposing teams being able to run the ball down or throats, or not, this year had they played. (Not to mention the ability to get pressure on the opposing quarterback.) At least the cupboard won't be bare for the incoming coaches. Better to start there than the alternative, that's for sure.

Jedd still has to win me over, and its a fairly short leash. That said, I'm not sure what he could've done better so far. Short of getting 10 top 50 recruits, bringing the only 3 playmakers at wideout back, a corner whose the level of athlete we simply haven't had in years, and a 6'8 DE are a good start.

I definitely know it could've gone FAR WORSE over the past week or so since hes taken over. At this point, duct tape on the dam is a win. Whether or not its the start of something is an entirely different game.

I'll say this, Fisch has done everything he has needed to in the short time he has been here so far. For that, I will praise him. But he needs to show something on the field for me to fully come around.

Fisch is proving he can recruit. Jason Taylor's son just committed.

What’s he ranked?
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

He's not ranked although he was recruited by Vandy, Illini & Air Force

So our recruiting is right where it has been. Perfect.

It's weird right? He's from a pretty legit program and was offered by other FBS schools yet he's not ranked and neither is his brother.

Needless to say 2020 was a difficult year for scouts to be able to actually scout.

I do know this Taylor pick up was a connection recruitment all the way. I'm not sure how the kid from Connecticut we picked up fit in. Maybe Jedd got word of him while he was coaching at New England?

I watched that kid from Connecticut's highlight tape on hudl. What kind of division was this guy playing in??? He shrugged just about everyone off and looked just about unstoppable
I said what I said and I mean it.
