Big Ten suspends Maryland's Stefon Diggs, reprimands coach

The Big Ten Conference on Monday issued a public reprimand to Maryland coach Randy Edsall and suspended star wide receiver Stefon Diggs one game for the Terrapins' actions before kickoff of Saturday's game against Penn State, which began with a skirmish and continued with Maryland captains refusing to shake the hands of their Penn State counterparts following the coin toss.

"The Big Ten determined that Edsall failed to control his team prior to the game when Maryland players initiated a confrontation with Penn State players," read the statement. "The officials did a good job of containing the situation once it started, and fortunately the incident did not escalate any further."

Maryland, which is in its first season as a member of the conference, will also be fined $10,000.
