Re: Conference Realignment
Wouldn’t that be something. Would love to see PCAT be right on this. Might not be as fun as the Big 12 but academically it would be a huge step up. We would never get to the heights of Michigan, Ohio St or Penn St in football but boy would that be fun.Catintheheat wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 3:56 pm There is smoke that the Cats are being considered for the B1G. And it all has to do with brand. Arizona's basketball brand is blue blood. It is just rumor right now but things are moving fast. Arizona's academic program fits with the B1G. Exciting times. I still think UA joins the Big XII. But, I will be eating popcorn for the next couple of weeks.
It appears Fox and ESPIN might be slugging it out. The eventual scenario might be for 20 team leagues with two 10 team divisions

Sources indicate that Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are all likely to join the Big 12.

Re: Conference Realignment
To sum it up it appears UA, ASU, and Utah are joining the Big 12. It's nearly a done deal. Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and Cat are joining the Big 10. The Big 10 is not as certain as the 4 corner schools joining the Big 12.

I’m gonna hate the B1G so much.
Boomer blue blood bullshit conference
B12 is gonna be awesome for both our FB and BB programs
It’s a great fit for Arizona

Re: Conference Realignment
I feel for OSU. They have vocal and passionate fans. They have had their moments in both football and basketball. Their facilities are modern. They care. They just don't get the fan support. Their baseball teams rank one of the best of the nation. I don't like seeing them relegated. They are getting the raw end of the stick. Wazzu stared changing their tune months ago.84Cat wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 5:28 pmOSU & Wazzu to the MWCCatintheheat wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 5:24 pm To sum it up it appears UA, ASU, and Utah are joining the Big 12. Oregon State deserves better.

Agree, in the long term. But he does give Robbins cover to do what needs to be done.
I do blame George for having about a year and this is the best he could up with and to “let’s have another meeting”
At the tune of 10k/day, I’d probably do the same.

Re: Conference Realignment
GK had little to nothing to do with killing the PAC. That blame belongs to the hubris of each and every P12 University President in the conference who put Larry Scott in charge and then let him run amok. Larry Scott also deserves a heaping helping of the blame, as do the LA schools (UCLA/USC) who started the stampede out of the conference.CalStateTempe wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 5:30 pmThis is great. GK was dealt a losing hand from the moment he replaced LScott. GK is a little like the 2nd shift helmsman on the Titanic. He might have replaced the guy who ran into the iceberg, but there was not anything he could do about it.
The winners in this are the networks, who just squeezed several schools out of a nice payday and retain enough games to fill their schedule.
The losers are the Oregon States/WSU's of the world who will end up in a new MWC......with probably less than half the money they were getting from the P12.
Robbins & Heekes job going forward is the prevent (as long as possible) the UA from being the next Oregon State/WSU. The Big12 is an athletic conference, NOT an academic conference. College sports is a Cut-Throat business (nothing less) and Robbins/Heeke need to treat it as such.
The consolidation of college football is likely to continue. It will benefit the bottom line of the ESPN's/Fox networks of the world.

Which is infinitely better than being stuck in the MWC 2.0 with OSU/WSU.

I knew it all along. It was never about doing what's best for Arizona. It's just you not wanting to be associated with Big12 schools. Why don't you just go down with the ship and refuse to watch AZ in the Big12? Go eat an anchor ya snob.
Mike Luke's burner account.
Re: Conference Realignment
Oh good god this again. We’d only have a shot at the B1G if it went to 30 teams. And even then, by that time, we’d be more poor, suffer heavily in recruiting, and pushed so far down the list they wouldn’t look at us. If the Big Ten adds Oregon State and Washington State in 2030, I’ll say I was wrong. Until then, it’s an insanely stupid take

Apple tv or no one big is interested in that. They're hardly interested in the old pac 12. Doubt we even get near $15 per year.
We'd essentially become G5 school, we'd lose our top coaches because we couldn't afford raises, we'd have to cut a lot of athletic programs, we would have no exposure of any kind to grow and attract top coaches and recruits, etc and hope for some reason the B1G is interested in a G5 school.
And you say we have to think about the long term? The old PAC 12 guard was already doing that and being conservative and non reactive to everything and look at the result.

Re: Conference Realignment
In what universe does being in the Mountain West, getting absolutely murdered in recruiting, never getting seen by anyone who matters, falling totally out of the national conversation, and receiving $10M-$15M per year while other schools get two and three times that amount so they can pay top notch coaches and maintain or upgrade their facilities, and reach a level of success that would be totally unachievable by mid-major Arizona, get us closer to being in the Big10??
You have to have your head so far up your ass you’re using your dick as a periscope to believe that is true. Or you just want to be the board contrarian because negative attention is better than no attention at all. Either way, what a dumbshit take.

Re: Conference Realignment
Back in the land of reality... happy going to the Big 12 is about to be official, but wish we could leave ASU and Utah behind.
I'm curious if the Pac will even survive after everyone of any value leaves. MWC taking WSU and OSU makes more sense than the Pac adding anyone. Who would want to be part of a league with such incompetent leadership?

The PAC still has a P5 moniker and an entry into the CFP given a few things. The two remaining schools take the Apple money and raid the MWC?

There's no apple money with only two small state NW schools
I'm guessing if the B1G only takes two schools this time, the Bay schools go independent
