So the Air Force is using the Army Air Corps graphic. Pretty cool all around though

True, the AAC was part of the army until 1949 when the USAF was created and became it's own branch.

I'm pretty sure all Flying Tiger pilots and ground crews had to resign from the AAC. They were under the command of the Chinese. They were considered "volunteers" into the Chinese air corps, but were more like mercs for the Chinese than an AAC/USAF outfit, since they got paid by a private company.

That is correct since the US was not at war. However, when the US went into WW2 the Flying Tigers were reassigned to the AAC and the pilots regained their commissions.

Pappy Boyington is probably the most famous pilot.

yup. they weren't in the AAC...well actually when the flying tigers did their flying it was actually the Army Air Forces. Since June 1941.
