Bear Down Wildcats

Apologies for the continued downtime. Our host updated their PHP version (on which our system, phpbb operates) without advance notice. Our board software was incompatible with the new PHP version. The upgrade, being multiple releases later than what we were running proved complex.


Things are moving in the right direction in getting back to normal. Our database appears intact and we have some basic functionality right now. Be aware a lot of things may not function or work properly for a while. This is a process and much is to be done. This new board software version should have all the modern bells and whistles but adding those mods and tweaking everything will take some time yet.

For the moment I an going to leave the board up while updating things. Please be patient.

Most things seem to be working fairly well for now. I have a lot of customization and tweaking to do yet. I am calling it a night. Until tomorrow all.

Everything seems fairly stable right now. Some folks might have to re-upload their avatar images and check any code in their signatures that may not load properly.

I will be exploring numerous mods to make the board more user friendly and functional. I cloned the board and database on another domain and will be doing all my tweaking there prior to modifying anything on the board here to ensure minimum down time.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate ALL the work you’ve done for us. And one day, when this pandemic is over and I can travel again, I’m coming to Arizona and I am going to buy you so many drinks your liver will be crying for mercy.

Are there new specifications or limits for avatars? Mine won't load - it says its there, but it doesn't show.

I've deleted it and reloaded it, it just doesn't show.

The one I'm trying to use is 80x118 and 2.93K

I’m having the same issue. I’m within the size limits and tried uploading from desktop & mobile but it just will not show up.

Not seeing any avatars, not even my own which is within size limts.

Also, where in the settings do I put the have the names and avatars on the left hand side?

I can see a handful of avatars. I found in the settings where you can turn off avatars or signatures but nothing about placement.

I poked around the Admin settings to see if I could tell why some avatars aren’t showing up and also to see how we could switch to the left hand side. Struck out on both.

Most of these things need to be tweaked in the code. I'll be working on it off and on over the week.

Please feel free to post in this thread features and layout changes you'd all like and we can collate the ideas/suggestions here and I will do my best to make as many happen as possible. Additionally, feel free to Google "phpbb 3.2 mods". There's a thriving community of user created mods. If you see something there that could improve our board, throw it in with the suggestions list here.

I don't see any avatars at all in Chrome. Trying Edge, I can see about half.

I have chrome and see half

I have Firefox and I see some and not others.

On mobile chrome and can see maybe half of them too.

Update on avatars. For some reason about 1/3 of the avatar images are not loading due to an internal server error. Before bringing the board back up I cloned the board and moved it to a different domain for testing purposes. That cloned version has no avatar issues.

Once I am ready to enact a number of changes and mods here there will a planned downtime where I will again clone this board (this will fix the file structure), move to another domain, scrub the file system on our board domain, then copy the cloned board back over. At that point I will set up all the planned mods and layout changes. The board will send a mass email to all users letting you know when this planned downtime will occur. I expect it will take several hours. Tentatively I am looking at a late evening on a weeknight next week.

Thanks for the update! You honestly handle this shit better than the main vendor I work with and their downtime and updates/communication. They have 180 clients and over 6 million end users. And we pay them almost $500k/year.

Not a problem. Since I'm not working right now this is at times a welcome diversion. I am also looking forward to being able to really mod up the board and make it a bit more modern. I'll probably update the main front page as well and look into whatever easy/free content might be displayed there. We'll see.
