2024 New York Yankees

Post by Chicat »

So the Yankees just traded for a guy who has put up an OPS+ in his first 3000 plate appearances only rivaled by Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Fox, and Mike Trout while giving up very few of their top prospects (like, almost none).

Juan Soto, welcome to the Bronx!

A la Trea Turner for the Dodgers. Renting him for 1 year but he's got quite a resume. Boy, the Yanks sure will have a lot of pop in that line-up.

Forgot to mention the addition of Verdugo (Tucson boy) who I have always liked and Grisham who can come in for late inning defense. Nice outfield line-up.

Love seeing Hal finally open up the check book that used to be the Yankees biggest advantage, even if it is just for one year.

Unfortunately Boras probably won’t let him get extended but I’d love for them to lock him up long term.

I am still convinced this is a one year thing before Hal goes back to penny pinching next year, hoping that the results from this year appease fans for awhile.

5-0 is a great start.

5-0 on the road against a perennial rival and last year’s NL World Series representative is just about enough to give a man some hope.

Yankees are on pace to win like 135 games.

I still don’t see them winning more than 90.

Longtime radio play-by-play man John Sterling has retired due to health reasons.

Personally, I was never a fan. Listening to him and Suzyn Waldman do a game is like listening to George Costanza’s parents argue over paella. But any end of any era is to some degree a sad one. Hope he is able to recover from his health struggles.

Last night was a bad bad loss, stranding multiple runners nearly every inning, and an awful series split at home against the lowly A's travelling across country. Series like this are the difference in a stacked tight division like the AL east.

Aaron Judge is just straight up bad right now. Missing completely hittable pitches.

I wonder if his spring training injury has lingered.

Put Judge and Stanton in a padded room until mid August as a safety precaution.

If Soto is really hurt, the Yankees only hope is that Jasson Domínguez is ready to go and can come in and do his best Juan Soto impression.

And here I was just starting to get optimistic. Silly Chicat…

Took the third day off but unfortunately my Yankees treated your Dodgers rudely.

Went to KC and won tonight without starting Judge, Stanton, & Rizzo. I like that a lot. Rizzo especially needs to sit. He’s been awful.

Great time at the Stadium and my son was happy so not a total loss. Lot's of Dodger fans too.

Funniest moment was the fans shouting “We want Soto” when Grisham, his replacement, was at bat. He promptly hit a 3 run homer to basically win the game a moment later.

That feeling when you single-handedly kick the shit out of your former team in their stadium and oh yeah that team just happens to be the Red Sox who traded you because they didn’t like your passion and now you’re a New York Yankee and on the first team to 50 wins…

True

Hopefully the Orioles are good at dodging fastballs up and in. They’ve hit way too many of our guys this year and last.

Actually, on second thought, I hope they’re real bad at getting out of the way of high heat.

They know it’s coming tonight so if I were the Yanks I would drag it on for a while. Tough enough facing Cole in a normal situation let alone knowing a 97 mph could be whizzing by your head at any moment.

First real struggles the Yankees have faced this season, even with Soto and Judge still raking. They really need some of the others to step up if they want to be a real World Series contender before Hal cuts back.

The good news is that our slide coincides with the Orioles losing 5 straight. Otherwise we’d be looking up at them and fighting for a wild card.

Aaron Judge keeps raking, the Yankees keep losing. The pitching has really taken a nose dive to go along with an extremely top heavy batting order.

Unfortunately back in the real world this is 2022 redux.

Sizzling start then Judge has to break through to 60/130 just to keep us from falling out of the wild card in the second half. It’s been ugly.

In the month of June Aaron Judge and Juan Soto each had OBP of over .500, that is pretty amazing. Unfortunately the Yankees also had 6 regular starters with OBP under .280 during the same stretch. It is quite literally a two man lineup at this point. Mix in the fact that our pitching has gone in the toilet and this team is getting hard to watch even with two of the most exciting players in the league.

Except last night it was Judge’s DP ground out that did them in.

I always thought the Yankees were playing a bit over their heads and they would come down to earth. They are who they are - a pretty good team with 3 studs (Judge, Soto and Cole), strong pen, good but not great starting pitching, with some question marks at a few positions.

Still 20 games over .500 is nothing to sneeze at. But they should look at adding some pieces before the trade deadline.

It absolutely was not. It was only managing to get two hits through the first 7 innings and JD Davis grounding out with Soto on 3rd & Judge on 2nd in the 3rd when they were down 2-0 and needed some momentum. He gets a hit there and the Yankees win that game going away. Had to have it, didn’t get it.

Point taken. Although media and fans here, not surprisingly, were not as forgiving. They expect Judge to always come through.
